If watching video is boring, you can see the performance chart here vantc.net/nanopi-r5s-openwrt-performance.html

Thanks so much, setting up the 2.5 as WAN and installing VPN are EXACTLY what I wanted to do on my NanoPi also!

Dude let me just say that I f#ck1ng LOVE Your channel!! Have you considered installing opnsense on any of those badboys (ie nanopi's R5S)?

Thanks for the comment. Since a lot of request for the opnsense on the NanoPi, I will try to get it running on the R6S (I sold the R5S few months ago)

thanks for the amazing tests and reviews! would u recommend this over the R4S as a router? the extra port is useful for me as an extra vlan port for iptv, eliminating the need for a managed switch, but the R4S' chip performs better i believe

Hi, sorry for the late response. I still recommend the R4S over the R5S if you are looking for performance in QoS, VPN, etc. However, if your internet plan is below 800 Mbps (estimate number), using the R5S and utilise these 2 LAN ports will be a good choice. Uf you are living in Asia/China, you can also take a look at the FastRhino R68s (2x Gigabit + 2x 2.5 Gigabit).

Hi dude, thanks for this video, I'm considering buying one of these, (almost sure because of DietPi support) but wanna be sure about the power supply I should get, I know is 5v according to Friendly Elec, but how many amps should it deliver? 3 amps or 4 amps? Please advice, thanks in advance for your reply.

Hey, I used the Offical Power Supply from Raspberry Pi to power the R5S. It is 5V/3A.

Quick question, can you install custom OS (eg, proxmox, Openwrt, pfsense,...) on this thing? Thank you

Hi, it all depends on the manufacturer (NanoPi/FriendlyElec), the developers and the users community, who develops the firmware for this device. For now, the R5S runs OpenWrt, Android, OPSense and some other Linux distro
