"Dubai's Burj Khalifa is the tallest building. Who will top them? "
Dubai: starts building sidewayyyyyyys
Lol
Jeddah: "We will top it! This is a building taller than yours!"
Dubai: "We will take the record back to Dubai! This is a tower taller than yours!"
Jeddah: "Oh damn, this is expensive. We're out."
Dubai: "Now there's only us left in the race! We are guaranteed to win! ... wait, we already have the winning tower, and this IS damn expensive! Y'know what, Burj Khalifa is tall enough as it is."
Result: Two half-built towers, billions spent, status quo unchanged.

Me not knowing what a cantilever is:
Ah yes, impressive
@Kwistenbiebel200
Wrong. It's cantilevered from Building A out. A cantilever doesn't reference how it's attached. The cantilever references the structure jutting out from a structure without support on the end of the portion jutting out. This is a cantilever structure.
@Kwistenbiebel200 Exactly!
@Kwistenbiebel200
No it doesn't. the video is clear from the beginning how it attaches to the two buildings.
If it cantilevers out from building A 1 foot, it's a cantilever.
It's a lever that cantis. Obviously.
@Kwistenbiebel200 Thank you! Thats what I thought at first after having seen the video. The title got me thinking that this was going to be the longest cantilever but it was disappointing when a short span of the other end was the only cantilever. The rest is just simply supported. This is pretty much making it an illusion of a long cantilever.

The Guinness Book of Records will become at this rate a Dubai tourist guide. Masha Allah.
The CCTV Building has a 75m cantilever according to Google. I saw one source that said this is 66m. The ratio of the cantilever is 5.5 diamonds long to 1.5 diamonds high. It looks to be around 5 stories high. 66m would make sense if the typical floor to floor height was 3.6m, a reasonable figure. Even if this was 4m the cantilever would be 73.3m, less than the CCTV Building. I'm dubious, but we'll see the official figure when the tower is opened I suppose.
Floors are quite high on a skyscraper so 4.1 meter or 4.2 are possible

Dubai is an exercise in architectural vacuity. It's not a city, it's a simulacrum ; a collection of architectural parts that only exist because someone has the money to acquire them. A real city is something that grows organically from the natural needs of its culture and activity. Dubai in contrast is like a theme park ; basically Las Vegas without the edge.
Never before have I read something so true!
True, but these days western cities are no where near organic growth, they're not designed around the needs of the people or for making life quality better, these type of cities are usually common in the Mediterranean countries, and some asian countries
@@asmasm9736 so what it attracts the tourists who then attracts the foreign money and inventors who help the state to escape and be self sufficient from fossil Money
It's so interesting to see the city planning of Dubai. Or rather, the total lack of it. The city is a giant patchwork of entirely separate developments, each designed not to connect to its neighbours in any meaningful way, with one developer overseeing everything inside its borders. Often, the developments are separated by huge highways that create near-impassable barriers. The city has grown enormously, but still the old town remains the only place that resembles a downtown area. There is no organic growth at all, just a checkerboard of entirely separate masterplans. It seems somehow even worse than US city planning, which says a lot.
It's really cool to see Dubai has so many top notch projects to ensure that even after its oil reserve is finished, the economy will be a thriving one👍
