Such a smooth quiet engine... It has no exhaust and it's quiet... 20 years before my time but I spent time around them and loved using my grandads 48 on the farm as a kid...
My dad loved these flatheads,on the farm we had a custom spray truck with this engine, the sound it made when he opened her up was so cool, still is.Deep and throaty because of the in head valves.
At least one type of sidevalve 'flathead' engine used in the UK during the thirties used this system:- Too much clearance, the valve seat had to be cut in, too little clearance the top of the valve stem had to be ground off! Hopefully it's more sophisticated with this V8.....
Needs a good tuneup lol. Surely you can do some upgrades to these old Fords. Simplistic as they were, air flow was piss poor. Most ended up as boat anchors.

I could listen to that sound for the rest of my life, absolutely beautiful 😍
Beautiful sound
The old V8... sounds great!
❤00q
Wow, WHAT A GREAT SOUND! John P.
Sweet sweet music
I still remember the first v8 flat tie I ever heard
Loved it from day one
those old ford flatheads bring back memories, thanks dude
they are slow asf (90 HP, that's nearly the horsepower of a modern Toyota yaris
for having no exhaust it sounds great 👍
I had a 1951 Ford V8 flathead with a straight pipe, the sound was amazing.
It is a great engine to run with open exhaust!

Nice sound, thanks for sharing!
Still used for Ferris Wheels and other travelling carnival rides
They run forever!
Very nice
About as much HP as a 90s Honda... But sounds absolutely amazing 👍
95 whole horse power!!!!
Still amazing how quiet it is especially when compared to a 90's Honda with a fart-cannon. @@slimpick99
Great Video Man !! Thanks
And with the proper exhaust piping on it, this engine was almost too quiet. Yet, when forced, this engine would perform.
In around 1970 I had the "frustration" of replacing the points in one of these engines.
Yes. Replacing the points and then setting the timing is not easy!!!
That's cool 😎
This ugly iron anvil will work forever...
… ЧУГУННАЯ наковальня.
Ive always wondered how one would set the valve lash on these flathead engines.

Interference thread screw in the top of each lifter, requires a special tool to hold the lifter and a decent arm to crank the screw lol
Thank you for that clarification.@@thephilpott2194
Looks like it was built for a war ? 👍. Ford tough 🇺🇲
Very cool 🤙 now I'm just getting into flatheads as I just got my first but I was understanding the 48-53 blocks don't have the bell housing cast in?
Old flatty. Classic sound
I think they used to call as side wall engine.
Even Willys Jeep used to have side wall and 'F' head engines I believe
Wonderful sound-purrs like a kitten. Have Ford replace that leaky left side exhaust manifold under warranty.....
Why is it so quiet?
Needs a good tuneup lol. Surely you can do some upgrades to these old Fords. Simplistic as they were, air flow was piss poor. Most ended up as boat anchors.
Good old lump or Detroit cast iron
It's all fun and games until you have to adjust the valves.
интересно, какой у него расход топлива и какая мощность
30 литров на 100 сантиметров
Очень компактный для v8, звук шиза!
