Monkeys are able to hold their breath under water from 3 to 5 minutes, They are born knowing how to swim. On the average the majority of the moms will not go swimming till their baby is about 6 weeks old. This type monkey loves the water. I have seen them dive from high up in a tree on Monkey Hill in Hong Kong into the water.
