Instead of steps, have you considered a ramp? When we had our front porch built, our carpenter suggested a ramp. He said you never know when you may need it. Three weeks later my husband had a heat stroke while golfing. It was downhill from that. He was never the same mentally or physically. He went from a walker to a wheelchair. He was so sick for 12 years and passed last year. A ramp is also great to have when someone gets hurt such as needing crutches. You may also have someone visiting that has a hard time with steps. It’s been a game changer for us. I love watching your work. You guys are great. Greetings from Southeastern Kentucky.
Hi Rhoda, I offer my condolences and hope you are OK. I am in my 70s and know that I am vulnerable to the effects of summer heat, particularly as I live in the tropics where sweat loses its effect with the humidity. You are so right about installing ramps as life throws challenges when we least expect it. Take care.
can they not add some sort of these Ramps, that David use to load or unload his Trailer wenn he moves Uber around? so you can hide these inside or under the bottom of the Mud room when not needed?
Ever wonder why some people seem to watch your videos to criticize what you do? I enjoy your journey; if not I'd move on and not waste your time with criticism. You got this.
Nice job Gary, always good to follow your instincts. Now the next time you work on the mud room you're one step closer to completion. Looking good. I totally love the way the outside patio in the back of the house looks. Mel you picked great colors. Totally suits the environment you're living in. Hope you're happy with it. Still say if you do the windows you'll like it more. Just an opinion.
I had to take a look at the ebike. I have an OUXI V8 and it's too tall for me to reach the ground from the seat. But this bike has a step through and may be exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.
Gary a few suggestions. Spend a set amount of time daily on the outside build. 4 hours in the AM and 2 hours in the afternoon mon-fri, take weekends to relax. It's in the best interest of your family for you to focus more time on the build. If RUclips is your full time job make more content about each thing you do daily. Starting 0800 daily till noon, then 1300 till 1500. You have to get in the mold of a routine and build up your stamina. If this is the only job you need to step get the job finished. You should have a construction video daily. Without daily dedication inside and out this project will drag on at this pace for years, your kids will be grown once they are able to see a complete home. Gary step up and create a daily schedule to work hard on your home. I have watched other RUclipsrs work harder with less and get things done. It's not on mel or the kids, it's on you to daily work on this project.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it have been more cost efficient to cut the zip board to fit the small sections around the windows instead of putting full sheets up and then cutting it out? 🤷🏻♀️
@@vickiemounts2962 no, this is the best to do it this - IMO. The reason why is the wall beneath, next to, and above the windows needs covering with zip boards and it is stronger structurally to be one solid sheet. The pieces cut out were reused, in this video.
Good day Mel and Gary, Zip board looks good installed. The E Bikes look like fun but they are so expensive, well maybe some day. The build is looking good Gary. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Gary why not put in the roof on the mud room get it dried in then work on other extitior and interior things that way if it rains you can finish the interior best wishes
My understanding is the zip board keep the walls square and plumb, which is a good thing before you start pushing the weight of roof beams etc around on the top plates.
@@barry2585 I've started building custom homes then residential building renovations and never had a problem drying in the home by completely covering the roof. Wall sheeting completely keeps all straight and square. So you can work comfortably indoors if the weather turns bad. Zip board is no different unless you don't follow the recommendations from manufacturer. But in reality. It is no different than. Nailing regular plywood or wafer board to walls. Or food trusses. Your home is already dried in. And I can imagine how it is when not enough funds are available. Plumbing. Electrical can be tiresome plus then the drywall. Trust me. I've been watching your videos from day one of the building process. . if I had lived near you guys I would had given you some help. But. Best wishes and looking forward to complete build out
I have noticed that Gary is proud of his beard. Maybe you can find a sponsor that he likes to use to maintain his beard, do you have anything for that? Just a recommendation nothing more
So where are the coats etc. gonna go when there are no walls for cabinets or coat racks. The house is gonna be huge when you’ve also got all that room downstairs. Either way I’m sure Mel’s got it all figured out and of course she’s got Gary doing an excellent job. 🇨🇦🍁 wants to know 😁
be careful with e bike storage and rideing ,lithium e bike batteries can spontanious combust. while being ridden or just in storage. a carbon monioxide smake detector where they are stored and an ABC fire extinguisher might be ideal. if nothing else one of those new fire blankets would be wise to keep on the bikes and in the house
I got an idea for your roof on your mud room. Use a strong green house corrugated like Rox and Ant did for there greenhouse. That way it can also be a sunroom for plants?
could not help thinking, why did gary not use a circular saw for the vertical drops would have been quicker and quieter as u have a square edge to guide the blade.hmmm
I can feel your heart is torn. The want to deer hunt to feed your family & the mud room is waiting to be dried in. I get it. You will get R done soon. Enjoy both when you can!
It hasn't been cold enough for them. We were using them on the air conditioner setting during the summer. They will be making a comeback very soon though! It's getting colder and colder every day

I must correct you on the brakes system. They are not hydraulic but cabel assisted brakes.

Sooooo agree! ❤
Gary, you and Mel do a great job building your home, I enjoy every episode!😊❤
You guys are so going to enjoy that mud room this winter.
Great job, Gary. Thank you for continuing to share the journey. God bless.
you should install a floor drain while you're still building. a mud room needs a drain, especially if you are going to caulk the bottom.

Well done Gary! Looking good! I'll be excited to see the windows go in and the continuation of the mud room!
Thank you! Me too! We're really excited about that part.
I have watched your videos since you moved to 41.36 You guys are amazing!
Great job 👍
If you got a router it makes cutting the openings easier than with a sawzall and it’s a straighter cleaner cut every time
How true and faster . But some people know better .
It's not that "we know better" - we never said that.
We just do what we do.
Relax. We're getting it done just fine.
This mud room is a game changer!! Gary, you're doing a wonderful job. You're a hard worker, for sure. Keep on keeping on, man. Love you guys! Karen ❤
You're so sweet! Thank you for your support! 🥰
Dig It! Dig It! Dig It! Love It!
Good morning 🌞 good job Gary 👍 good luck hunting 🦌
Awesome video and I agree with not wasting that zip board you cut off.
Hopefully you will find a 6x6 straight enough to make you happy. I know lumber that size is hard to find that's straight.
I hope so too! 🙏
Looking great. Hard work pays off. You guys are a power couple. ❤️
Thanks! It's hard work but so rewarding!
It is looking good Gary!
I see you have a few of the popular Black and Yellow…that’s me all the way! Slow and steady there my friend and you will get it done!!!
The mudroom will be really nice when you are done. I'm glad you put all the windows in. Great job. ❤❤
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the love! 💖💖

Hello. Aren’t there too many windows for that room? What about a wall to hang the coats? Just asking
I agree. Does not seem like a mud room. Seems mote like a porch
