    Great job. Definitely add plants. My sister used water lilies and grasses to keep the algae down and the fish a place to hide.

      I’ve been thinking about using plants! That’ll definitely be a plan in the future

    Check into plants, and put them at one end or side away from where the kids will be swimming. My dad did that and added bottom eating fish and the water was almost clear. It took a couple of months but it was worth it. Enjoy your pond 😎🐠

      I’ve been very interested in getting plants into the pond. I’ve heard lots of good things. Thanks for watching!

    At each end of the pond make a 10×15 cinder block chamber, about 5 feet tall. Line it with excess liner, pump water in cinder block chambers, use some filter brushes and filter material to filter out dirt, that's large body of water won't stay clean by itself. I Enjoyed your videos thanks..

    I have a 2500 gallon koi pond in my backyard, in full sun, that tends towards algae growth. The copper sulfate stuff is not legal in Canada. I went looking for some eco friendly solution and actually found it. On the Gardenweb website someone was talking about hydrogen peroxide at low doses. Killed all my string algae but it takes 3 separate applications at 5 day intervals. It never affected my fish but a couple of plants got some leaf tip burn. I don't recall the exact instructions but I use 250 ml of 30% hydrogen peroxide in 2500 gallons of water. Don't use the stuff from the drug store, it's 3% and expensive. I get 30% stuff from my janitorial supply place, they call it super laundry liquid bleach and I get a gallon for $20.00. I hope this gives you some ideas and think some thought to skin irritation with the swimming should be tested (we're not fish....lol).

    How’s the pond doing now? I’m thinking of purchasing a liner and I’d like to know how it’s held up.

    Fish will make the alge bloom worse! They add nitrates which alge love.
    All you need is plants in your pond to eat up the nutrients! Water lilly, lotus, ect. There are so many plants to help you.

    A half acre is 21,780 square feet. Multiply the width by the length to give you the area in sq ft. It’s hard to tell by the video, but I’d say it’s maybe 40x80? 3200 sq ft is about 1/14th of an acre. A half acre pond is quite large. (100’x220’ would be about a half acre rectangular pond to give you an idea). Pretty cool to see it full though, good video 😎

      Hey Steve, this pond is about 65x110. Thanks for watching!

      Goshen Farm and Gardens Ok cool, it’s hard to tell by the video. So that would be 0.16 acres (about 1/6th of an acre).

      Our pond was nasty when we first filled it up once the liner was installed. I mean green algae nasty sludge everywhere. 2 days after installing the aerator it was crystal clear. In my experience all you need is the aerator, it’s still crystal clear.

      Goshen Farm and Gardens did you add river rock or anything in the base or is it as is. Also some pond people from Facebook have told me once I’m done to have water tested to make sure if I take fish out or swim there is no weird bacteria....wasn’t sure if these were considerations brought up on your end 👍

    • @GoshenFarmandGardens
      @GoshenFarmandGardens  3 года назад

      I think a lot of it depends on the size of the pond you’re building. I’ve seen people use rocks for small koi ponds in my case the pond liner company suggested to not use anything to hold it down. I go strictly off what the pond looks like, I haven’t done any tests. If it looks nasty and smells nasty it probably nasty.
