    For the overflow in those hang on boxes I use a bigger sponge that's wedged into place from front to back sort of like a matten filter. This makes for a much large surface area than wedging a small sponge in the overflow. I cut the sponge so that the bottom is also exposed so there are two surfaces for water to flow through and it takes a long time to clog.

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  3 года назад +1

      Ya that's really smart. I've been using larger and larger pieces of foam extending into water to increase surface area. Haven't done a wall yet. I bet that never clogs

      I also use sponge material thst way but I have had a few small bristlenose pleco fry get stuck in the sponge and die. Monitor the fry closely if you're breeding anything with spikes or barbles.

    This was awesome footage you caught on video with them breeding and her dropping an egg. Absolutely loved it! I have 15 cpd’s but I’m not ready to try breeding them myself with the work I would need to do but it would be pretty cool to just find some fry in my tank in the future. The chances are probably pretty low though because I have neocaridina’s along with a smaller group of chili rasbora’s all in a 15g. Hoping to possibly upgrade to a 24g. What are the chances of any eggs surviving? I have a well established planted aquarium with Christmas moss too.

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  3 года назад +2

      I've seen some fry survive only on what they can find in a planted tank. At some point they'll need tiny food though! It's always possible, I hope you see some. If you ever need more info there is another (much more detailed) video on my channel on how to raise the fry. I'll be honest though, they take more work than any other fish I've raised.

      The thing i do personaly is that i have small jars with pond water and pond dirt. I let those jars 100% outside all the year and a small ecoystem is created with time. When i have fries, i dump half of the water's jar with some algae and critters in the breeding box. It duplicates the ecosystem and fries can hunt micro critters etc in the algae/water

    Been binging all your videos! Why do you say the most productive environment would be a not incredibly not clean tank?

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  3 года назад +2

      Algae and mulm accumulation help to build a population of microorganisms that fry can live on for a while (in addition to eating some of the algae). CPD fry can grow to about 3/8 of an inch eating only what grows naturally in a planted tank. After that point they start to really need more substantial food.

    I have 7 CPD fry in a breeder that I caught from main tank. I havent seen anymore new fry since. I though they breed daily. I was expecting clock work. Guess I need to start napping the eggs? Maybe they are getting eaten and I just happen to have a miracle batch survive by fluke?

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  3 года назад +1

      They do tend to spawn daily if they get enough food. I would suspect some fry are getting eaten. Might be worth trying some method of separating eggs from adults. You might get some more productivity that way. Good luck in any case

  • @didnthurt4077

    is it better to only put 2 in a breeder box? how often do you take them out of the breeder box and how often do you clean it? Lots of food falls to the bottom which im urging to take out daily, but then i have to take out the screen which only comes off when i also take out the danios.

    • @MakeMoreFish
      @MakeMoreFish  2 года назад +2

      You don't have to keep them in a breeding box for long. Feed them lots then let them produce eggs in the box for a day or two. Really though, breeding boxes are great for raising fry but not the best for producing and collecting eggs. You might look into "egg traps" or allowing the fish to spawn in a tank and then removing adults. Both would be more productive I think
