Especially when everyone around her tells her not to and she does it anyways.

I think what i love about this scene too is that SOMEONE finally comforts the person being bullied and makes them like they are a part of something.

As a person were I usually don't cry in a crowded space but this scene made me tear up in the cinema.

This scene here made me cry. Because I can relate how Elphaba felt. Being laughed at. And bullied never feels good. 😢

What does holding space even mean tho

It's a spiritual concept that isn't talked about very much. In a sense, you are allowing the universe to stand still as something is expressed, usually a powerful emotion or something that brings you to a dynamic healing that defies all logic. The idea has been used over a thousand years ago. So for instance, if a person was going through a rough time, an illness for example, you hold space for them that invites healing. it is an act of complete stillness. Knowing that all the powers of this Divine Universe can change anything, while keeping human thought and judgement out of it and allowing it to unfold in all its miracles. Best way I can explain it and yet it is something that has to be experienced. In a sense it is like setting aside all thoughts, stand in a nature surrounding and to simply listen. As if you are waiting for trees to speak, Which they don't in words. It's more a feeling of being connected to all life.

Tl;dr: it's a safe space. Basically, if someone is holding space for you - they are giving you space to freely express yourself with no judgment. It's basically this.
