(This rail will cost you about $40, assuming you don't need to go buy the tools to build it)
I've had some people ask me to make one of these videos for a while, and now that I needed to make another rail, I finally did haha. This is pretty much the cheapest way to build a rail that will last a long time. People try to do it for $10, but it just doesn't work. I've built 3 rails using this method and never had a problem. One of them is going on roughly 4 years. Just take your time, measure and cut correctly and use plenty of screws. Hopefully this works for you and if you have any questions please let me know! If you want to see these rails in use, look at some of my previous videos. (I also made the rail in one day, so it does not take a very long time to make)
    SUPPLIES:
    tape measure
    saw (electric of handheld)
    pencil
1 1/4 inch and 3 inch screws (roughly that big. Be sure to use screws, not nails. I did this once and it started falling apart after about 1 season. Screws are much more reliable)
    drill/screwdriver
    straight edge
    file
5/32 inch drill bit (or one JUST large enough to fit the threaded part of the screw through it, it can't be larger than the screw head)
3/8 inch drill bit (or one large enough to fit the screw head through it)
    MATERIALS:
    2, 10ft. 2x4's
    1, 8ft. 2x4
1, 6ft. 4x4 (buy a longer one if you want a taller rail)
2, 10ft. PVC pipes (between 1 and 1 1/2 inches, or buy one large pipe if you want a single tube rail)
make sure you buy pressure treated lumber, or your rail will quickly rot and become unstable
    TOTAL COST: About $40

Would this wokr with one pipe as opposed to 2?

    • @mrherkner
      @mrherkner  4 года назад

Yes that should work fine! Just be sure to put in enough screws because without the second pipe there to hell stabilize it, it will have more room to move side to side.

What type of lens do you use?

Ben McGregor In this video I mainly used a Sony 50mm f/1.8, except for a few of the wide angle shots, which were with a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8
