    In the early years of Vanilla Wow, my friend made a weapon switch macro, but he never managed to test it, because every time he clicked it, the servers went down. After several attempts, he finally figured out his macro was crashing the server. He told another one of my friends and demonstrated.
    Next thing, permanent bans for both of them. And it wasn't intentional, he was far too dense to figure a macro that would crash the server. The was the problem in the first place, what should have been a simple weapon switch, he had managed into some absolute mess.

      a ton of exploits souldnt be called cheating. I know in some games there are certain shops the sell stuff super cheap that elsewhere can be sold for 10 times a much

    During TBC there was at one point a bug (approximately around season 3 of arena) that made it so when you were crafting items, you could spam a spell towards the end of the craft's cast time, and the game would consume mana from the spell instead of materials for the craft. So lets say you had engineering, and wanted to craft the lvl 70 epic gun (forgot its name), so long as you had the materials to craft 1, you could craft an infinite amount simply by spamming a spell when the craft was about to finish. Then sell the gun for like 500g on AH (a lot back then), or simply vendor them in case you did not want to overflood the market. We never got banned for doing it.

      leverloos Not even slightly. He obviously wasn't clear in what he was saying, if what you're saying is true.
      He also could've just looked up info about the raids mentioned and he would've been able to find out the information requested himself, which he didn't. I stand by my previous statement.

    My guild used an exploit in Mount Hyjal. There was a very specific spot in that raid instance where the flames couldn't reach you and where boss was unable to throw you into the air. It basically means that as long as 24 people (excluding the tank) were standing in that one magical spot the boss could do you no harm, except for auto attacking the tank of course. So you had your warriors use bows, rogues use kives and every other melee dps changing their spec to do some range dmg and you were golden.

    • @jonathanbaker247
      @jonathanbaker247 8 лет назад +1

      +Karol Terech I remember it. You could jump up on a tree at the foothill. Then you pulled Archimonde there and the rest is just simple tank-and-spank. There was a similar exploitation in Karazhan where when you encounter the Curator (the giant arcane guard boss that dropped T4 gloves), you can jump onto a statue in the previous chamber where none of his adds can harm you.

    • @jonathanbaker247
      @jonathanbaker247 8 лет назад +2

      TheHolyPriestGaming Well, back then the models of everything were rougher than they are today. There were a lot of hidden bumps that you can jump onto, even some walls in seemingly perfect vertical form, and when you did, it looked like you were floating in the air with nothing beneath your feet.

    • @zipp4everyone263

    When you've shown Viscidus at the start of the video i was instantly reminded of what rslaven (member of Death & Taxes) said about AQ40 before it was nerfed (well some of it): "We got world first Viscidus with 40 engineers and nearly crashed the server with sapper charges. We pulled bosses through gates and kited them up and down stairs in rooms for 2 hours because they weren't meant to be killed."
    Now that's clever use of game mechanics.

  • @tanks608

    I still felt the bombs was not an exploit.

    • @Ka05Incarnate
      @Ka05Incarnate 8 лет назад +22

      +tanks608 If it wasn't something common, like using a random obscure bad food item sure, but something that commonly used? No that was just Bliz not testing properly before release.

    • @recurvebogen01
      @recurvebogen01 8 лет назад +6

      +tanks608 Kungen actually made a statement video. The saronite bombs were a essential part of their rotations. Furthermore it happened in normal mode which wasn't challenging for them at all

    • @Kaij-
      @Kaij- 8 лет назад +5

      +tanks608 agreed, it just showed the lack of testing the devs did, and a lack of class understanding, so many top dps used bombs and engineering to min/max their rotation, blizz should have noticed that..

    • @hawkeyegough9090
      @hawkeyegough9090 8 лет назад +2

      +recurvebogen01 the guild could also back up kungens claims that normal was piss easy when they took alts with meh gear and smashed through it

    • @edschramm6757
      @edschramm6757 8 лет назад +2

      +tanks608 the bombs ALONE are not an exploit, but they should have noticed that it wasnt consistent. Aditionally, they used it to bypass another mechanic. The valkyr's that drop down and try to throw players off the cliff would be ignored because of those platforms. THAT was where the exploit came into play. it was used to bypass a mechanic.

    @BrievaryZowan 10 лет назад +14

    People don't seem to realise it but Blizzard couldn't give a shit what you think when they ban guilds for exploiting. Its their game. Justify it as much as you want, its still their game, their set of rules you play by. If they lose a single guild of people because of it, who cares? They have millions more still playing that don't exploit.

  • @REgamesplayer
    @REgamesplayer 10 лет назад +31

    I can't agree that Guilds must suffer for Blizzard's incompetence. If they leave exploits, it's no ones fault if it's being exploted in PVE.

    • @mirta000
      @mirta000 10 лет назад +4

      because them leaving bugs in is intentional? If you find an exploit - report it.

      Because human beings are flawless creatures who value principles above everything else? Punish test team if you must, not players for taking advantage of Blizzard's failure.

    • @MattWeismiller1994
      @MattWeismiller1994 10 лет назад +5

      REgamesplayer You're misunderstanding the point. This attempt for banning players that use game mechanics is moralistic. Look at blizzard's terms and conditions they're overwhelmingly occupied with fairness.

    • @REgamesplayer
      @REgamesplayer 10 лет назад

      Matt W
      For selfishly wanting to save time, could you sum up why Blizzard's terms and conditions are fair? Also, why you consider banning players to be moral?

    • @MattWeismiller1994
      @MattWeismiller1994 10 лет назад +2

      Uhhh. I disagree with blizzard's stupid terms and conditions. I'm not agreeing with it. I said blizzard tries to be moralistic about banning. In no way did I say I agree with this.

  • @ImFlixey
    @ImFlixey 9 лет назад +8

    I agree with almost every single one of these, however, number 2 is kind of blizzards own fault. If they inplemented a spell which could place the target in an inpenetrable shield until they removed it, then it is their job to make sure you cant use it to anything other than what it is made for (Wipe recovery). This was probably the reason they didnt ban anyone who did it. Its not the player's fault. This is the case with most of the exploits, apart from the ones where you need to DC / relog or alter the game files. Anyway, love your videos. Keep it up! :)

    that one with the blind dragon looked lagit to me. that really did look like clever tactics. get somewhere that your team has the "high ground" as it were and rain fire on the enemy. I look at it from a DM's (dungeon master) point of view. if I were preparing an encounter like that for my players I would INTENTIONALLY leave a spot on the map for them to try and find that would give them that exact advantage in the fight. and intentionally make the fight otherwise nigh impossible to win without that advantage. I think that was very smart on the part of that group to discover that.

    Hey I don't know if any of you were there or even knew about it. But back in Karazhan you can run through a mountain on the side of a hill and get to Prince without clearing any trash at all. Doing this would allow the doors to stay open and you can pull Prince.....and stay out of the inferno field. Im guessing no one actually knew about it. But it was a very quiet exploit on my server. We actually got server first kill but no one really cared about it.

    Ahh Razorgore and BWL... what great memories...
    The guild I was in at the time decided against using the known exploit as we knew it would eventually be fixed, so while other Alliance guilds were trying to progress to Chrommie, we were beating our heads against the Razorgore wall.
    But I still remember the amazing feeling of when we first got him down and proceeded to clear the entire raid in one sitting due to learning synergy. And then the cherry on top when the fix came around and we were one of only 2 guilds on our server progressing past Razorgore for weeks.

    • @neobahumut707

      Its very obvious that the rogue was using it for damage, and it was prob in his basic macro for dps rotation due to his professions... Banning one person for cheating if you have proof he was bragging about bugging the lich king fight with it sure, but I highly doubt that lol

    IDK, I think the reck bomb should have been on this list. You did do a good job highlighting Blizzard's incredible inconsistency in administering bans, which continues to this day. One guild exploits a world first lk kill and gets a 3 day ban, another exploits to save a bit of time not killing trash they were capable of defeating legit and is perma banned. I'm not defending the second group as they did cheat, but in my view what they did was less harmful overall to the game than the first group.

    • @leverloos
      @leverloos 10 лет назад +6

      They were altering game files. Sounds like a pretty oke perma ban in my eyes.

    • @leverloos
      @leverloos 10 лет назад +1

      only for the elite few it had impact on the game. and their punishment was to be locked out from heroic world first, wich they would probably have been able to get. Altering game files on the other hand is just cheating. It has nothing to do with an exploit.

    • @heatwave603
      @heatwave603 10 лет назад +1

      Both acts were cheating. As for only an elite few being affected? Thousands were affected in their runs for world first when they got the news it had been claimed and stopped trying for it, which is a far higher number of people than were affected by a guild getting a raid done a bit faster they could have cleared anyway. They should have been actioned sure, but cheating a world first is a MUCH bigger deal than skipping some trash.

    • @leverloos
      @leverloos 10 лет назад +1

      " thousands" is by no means much when Millions play the game.

    • @heatwave603
      @heatwave603 10 лет назад +2

      I can see you're willing to pretty much say anything to defend this blatant double standard in the treatment of these 2 guilds. There is little point arguing the point further when you haven't even actually addressed the last point and instead threw up a deflection which has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

  • @hyrwow
    @hyrwow 11 лет назад

    An exploit I found in late Cataclysm:
    When entering an LFR, I entered the dungeon journal, went into the raid I was currently inside, and set the gear filter to my class and spec. Then, all the items on that list were the only items that could drop, and was confirmed true. But that was changed as soon as MoP came out.

    There was one exploit I found that broke PVP. It was when the holy power system was first introduced. There was a trinket found in Molten Core, or some other Vanilla WoW instance that reduced the mana cost of spells by a small bit. When this trinket was paired with T1 and T2 Pally armor, it made Word of Glory an instant cast without having a holy power charge; as well as Templers Verdict. I legit could do WSG with all other enemy players on me just spamming WoG in T1 armor and could not be killed.

    The sound bite used in this video is from Razorgore. The confusion is the popular meme "More Dots". Originally a sound bite of an Onyxia raid by the EU guild Wipe Club, which has had several versions of different flash animations and audio remixes over the years.
    Many people are not familier with the fact that a small group of Wipe Club members frequently recorded the guilds team speak line. Onyxia is not the only excellent audio clip from this guild. Just the most familier.

    My favorite usage of Divine Intervention: When cast, the spell would automatically dismount an ally player and freeze them in place. So, when bored, I would occasionally fly up close to a friend in my party and pop Divine Intervention on them. Their character would then be dismounted and frozen in a glowing bubble miles above ground. A right click or duration later and my buddies would be forced into a free fall to death.

    There's no need to alter game files, you can jump through the wall by mounting+jumping around the corner by the second boss, still an exploit though but it makes me wonder if they actually did alter the game files or blizzard just couldn't figure out how they did it and made something up.

    Another exploit in Vanilla to skip Razorgore trash was to have two hunters. One hunter would shoot the adds at the orb and instantly feign death, this would cause about a 1-2 second gap where adds couldn't spawn from the little squares on the sides/corners. Then the second hunter shoots the EXACTLY as they came back, before the guy reconnects the beam with the orb, then no adds would spawn from the little squares and you kill those 3 adds + razorgore and boss is done. I did that about 50 times back in Vanilla.

    IMO #1 was actually an exploit in Molten Core. Before we were saved in raids between maintenance. We were saved for a full week from the moment the first boss was killed. Eminence on Blackrock US was eventually taking raids from other guilds on the last day of the save. Payment was that officers from the selling guild were allowed to attend and receive loot. But this meant Eminence was clearing Molten Core 7 times a week. I am sure they had planned with seven guilds to actually begin their raids on seven different days so they could do this. Ultimately the way raids were saved was changed to the time in between weekly maintenance so that this couldn't happen anymore.

    In BWL, you could all hearth out when Razorgore was at 1-2% except and alt dps, alt healer, and alt tank. The loot for razorgore would only be accessible to the the alts but the lockout only applied to the alts as well. Replace the 3 alts after everyone zones back in and you can clear BWL as many times a week as you could. Guild got the week ban hammer.

  • @Acendius

    For The Lich King one, since it was a World First, there's NO WAY that they could have know about that exploit, unless someone from Blizzard knew about it, didn't tell his/her co-workers about it or try to fix it, AND leaked that information to that specific Guild. What this means to me is that since they could not have known that the bombs would sometimes trigger such a bug (And that, as he said in the video, those bombs were generally used in standard rotations of engineers), any logically minded person would realize that they weren't justified in banning them.

      robert weller but the thing is that even if they had noticed it happening, they almost definitely wouldn't know why. No one would just be like, "oh, I bet the reason the stage is coming back together is because of the saronite bombs! That makes perfect sense!"

      robert weller To be fair, it was normal mode. Normal mode is a cake walk, as demonstrated when the same guild used their alts to kill Lich King again within the same week.
      Heroic mode would not be available for another week, so there was no point in trying to exploit that fight either.

    all these are well known exploits but you missed a few:
    you missed the bwl nefarian (world? NA I think) first that exploited how raids worked by overloading the instance with 50+ players (not in the raid but just the instance) and cycled them into the raid as people died.
    make raid of 40 people. 20 of them logout while the leader remembers their names (because it's all the people in your guild of rank 'raider'). all 20 of those log to warlock alts to soulstone the other half. now do the same in reverse to soulstone the first half. now relog through another rotation to have your second raid team join the same instance. pass leader to the second troupe. you now have a single raid instance with 120 players 'saved' to the id. everybody pulls as normal. as anybody dies and expends their soulstone they relog on to an alt and the RL invites them through a keyword (CTRA /rakw command) automatically. you thus can cycle as many bodies/alts as you want to thwart hard content you don't have the real gear for yet (for those who didnt loot t2 from MC when it existed). BC fixed most of this except the warlock alt abuse.
    blizzard attempted to hotfix this and screwed it up so bad that you had raids comprised of horde+alliance combined and one faction getting loot drops from chromaggus exclusive to the other side (alliance got shaman loot, horde got paladin). less lucky players were teleported to the hills above ss/tm.
    the same mechanic was also used to cascade raid boss kills by cycling the leader of the raid as loot drops were tied to the leader and not all players in the raid. want to run the content and farm gear? just bring in a new raid leader to eat a save id and the other 39 can be the same players. an even more advanced version of this abused the ibaa seed which was based on the instance save id (that used to be shown in the raid interface) to predetermine loot drops. this was also modified prior to naxx arrival but still discernable.
    likewise you made no mention of the infamous jump macro bug (do a jump and sit in the same macro at the same time) and you would levitate above the ground and ignore all ground aoe effects with a height of 50 (gnome ankles). it was also used to great effect to get anywhere in the game beyond what simple wall walking achieved because you could repeatedly use this macro to gain any altitude as long as you didnt move laterally. you'd noggerfogger to get slow fall and then jump where you wanted to land. this survived the entirety of 1.x of the game and was only patched in a hotfix/restart a few days prior to 2.0 releasing and removing the ability to jump through a macro and making it and other abilities only viable through hardware events (same thing killed autodecursive, ctra emergency monitor and so on) and was a well guarded secret for the longest time.
    there were multiple cases of lagswitching to bypass instance soft walls (doors that unlock after you kill boss X) that has plagued wow since day one as well.
    these are the raid relevant ones I could think of.

    Do you remember the paladin onehitting Lord Kazzak in vanilla? Paladins just got their talents redone (1.9 i think) and got the old reconning in prot. It gains you a buff after receiving a critical hit that gives you an additional weapon swing with your next attack. and it stacked. Indefinately. So a pala took a roguefired to Kazzak and dueld hi for about 3 hours straight, got over 1000 stacks one oneshotted Kazzak.
    I think the next day blizz added a 5 stack cap

    My favorite raid exploit ever was how my guild got it's very first princess huhuran kill in AQ40. At a certain low percentage she started to chain cast poison bolt volleys over and over at the 15 closest players. Those players would then equip a zandalari potion of spell reflection (required some ZG turn ins). It would cause all of her poison bolts to reflect back to her for the entire duration and killed her in seconds. Of course the following week we killed it the proper way... :)
