Dedicating this Latin Jazz Funk from Working Week to Simon Booth who died last week aged 67, this was their biggest selling track, a massive Jazz club cut at the time in 1984
Wow I didn't know Simon had died. That's a real shame. Back in the 80s he used to come up to Nottingham with Paul Murphy for the legendary jazz dance all-dayers and all-nighters. Loved talking to him, such a nice fella. Great guitarist. We've lost a real gem.
did find this..... ROBIN MILLAR I was making a record to raise awareness of the events in Chile where General Pinochet had been in charge for ten years. A lot of people had gone missing and many of my Chilean friends in London asked me to make a record. So, we made an A side of a record and decided to make a Latin extended version of it. I put the word out for anybody who played good Latin jazz and who would play for no money and agreed with the political message to come to my studio on a Sunday evening. About 20 people came, and I knew maybe ten of them. We recorded the track with Tracey Thorn from Everything but the Girl on lead vocals and Robert Wyatt from Soft Machine on backing vocals.
Brilliant song this ... lo haces muy bien ...los buenos elementos tarden a formarse ... just dae it Senor Pompino ... jump ... save us chuckin' ye numpty.

Skupinu WORKING WEEK vytvorili v roku 1983 Simon Booth a speváčka Alison Statton nar. 1959 v Cardiffe bývalá členka Young Marble Giants a Weekend a jazzový saxofonista Larry Stabbins nar. 9. septembra 1949 v Bristole.Po odchode Statton s dvojicou spievala Julia Tippets úspešná v roku 1968 pod menom Julia Driscoll s hitom na 5.m. This Wheel´s On Fire so skupinou Brian Auger and The Trinity.JUlia spievala v skladbe Storm Of Light. V roku 1991 sa novou speváčkou stala Eyvon Waite.
Tracy and Rob were good, but Working Week became much better when Juliet Roberts joined. Much more polished, and Tracy and Robert well... the genius that became Everything But The Girl.
The Album version is Incredible Whoever is joining Julia on this, IMO they should go to Singing School Their Vocals spoil this version, in fact: It's just plain awful ! :-(
londonlee62 no ..I disagree: this is very bad singing at its best , actually.. Tracey Thorn can/does only express sad vibes.. there's not a hint of resolution in Any of her Songs that she sings... However, you think what You think: that's You.. I'll think what I think: that's me!
Her name is Juliet Roberts and she's not on this recording. This wipes the floor with the version later recorded for the debut album. Give the full length 12" version a listen. I've uploaded two versions of it on here.
@@SoulStylistJukeBox Totally agree! I still cherish my 12" copy...it's an epic production. I later saw them with Juliet Roberts at the Astoria around '84-85. She totally ruined the night with her Primadonna antics on stage.

straordinario! Grande band, grande pezzo, grande coinvolgimento...
Tune just reeks of the Wag . Great times 💙
I’ve just re discovered this song again and remembered there was a video. Thanks for posting
I wonder if Julien Temple directed this. It reminds me of his 1986 film Absolute Beginners. This predates that film by 2 years.
Yes he did and yes it was a trial run for AB
@@johnbarleycorn3 ...and he used to hang around The Wag a lot back then!
and Working Week are on the soundtrack to Ab Beg
12" mix of this is godlike!

AS appropriate now as it was when the album was first released. We will win.
love it, Will Gaines in there as well !!!, more please

Brilliant clip, thank you for posting !

Classic.
Where was it shot? I recognize that venue from a long time ago.
Hounslow.
The venue was The Wag Club in Wardour St. Soho.
@@johnsullivan395 OMG yes
WOW !!!!!!
Tracey Thorne
Please turn up the volume!
but this is not the album version
nice, though
Tracy and Rob were good, but Working Week became much better when Juliet Roberts joined. Much more polished, and Tracy and Robert well... the genius that became Everything But The Girl.
isn't this everything but the girls version featuring the original singer from working week?
This is Working Week featuring Tracey Thorn and Robert Wyatt on vocals. The album version is just Juliet Roberts on vocals.
I brouhjy oy up notyh in 1984 ish
The Album version is Incredible
Whoever is joining Julia on this,
IMO they should go to Singing School
Their Vocals spoil this version, in fact:
It's just plain awful ! :-(
It's not Julia. This is the original single version sung by Tracey Thorn and Robert Wyatt and it's miles better than the one on the album
