The Paris Match (Tracy Thorn Version)
*Be sure to check out the original with Paul Weller singing!
(My opinion is that both versions are great)

I uploaded this for the song to be enjoyed!
And hoped a few images with it might be too
Rather than have just one picture throughout the whole song

Lyrics:
Empty hours
Spent combing the street
In daytime showers
They've become my beat;
As I walk from cafe to bar
I wish I knew where you are;
Because you've clouded my mind
And now Im all out of time
Empty skies say try to forget
Better advice is to have no regrets;
As I tread the boulevard floor
Will I see once more;
Because you've clouded my mind
till then I'm biding my time
I'm only sad in a natural way
And I enjoy sometimes feeling this way
The gift you gave is desire
The match that started my fire
Empty nights with nothing to do
I sit and think, every thought is for you;
I get so restless and bored
So I go out once more;
I hate to feel so confined
I feel like I'm wasting my time
I'm sitting on a beach in Cornwall, it's November 1984, the wind is whipping round me, I am huddled up to keep warm but my Walkman is playing this song over and over and over again and I am lost in the music. I am always transported back there everythime I hear this.
Wonder where you are now in 2023😊
Beautiful. I travelled through your story down here in Brazil , 2023! That's how I feel.😍
Super Beautiful music ❤
It was the same for me. I was 17 at that time.
My husband loves this band. We were dating in 1985. It takes me back there. If it doesn't transport, it's not great music, IMO. Cheers!
This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
I agree...just amazing
Agreed. It is like being transported back in time to a simpler time.
You are so right ... this song has to be the best of all time !!
I totally agree with you there.. i can't stop playing it... it was on The Style Council's album Cafe Bleu in 1984 and then I heard 'Each And Everyone' by EBTG and it blew my mind great voice !!!
I totally agree ... every time I hear it I have to rewind and hear it again and again and again .. Tracey Thorn's vocals are mind blowing .. which is why I bought the album 'Eden' on the strength of that song and I have bought every EBTG album since and all her solo albums. she has a great voice.
Tracey's voice is a perfect fit for this song . I think she can compliment most songs i just love her voice and style .
Should be considered a jazz standard!
This song has such a sultry, smoky jazzy sound. I've been a big fan of EBTG for years and Tracy lends a hauntingly beautiful voice to the Style Council. And the piano . . . oh it's is so beautiful. This song is one in a million !
I agree!
This song has aged incredibly well, just perfect.
Possibly the best song, from possibly the best album of The Style Council. I've loved this song for 30 years? (Is it really that long?) Anyway, still a bloody good tune and wonderful vocals that makes me tingle! Enjoy everyone!
Agreed, I absolutely love this song. There is not a Style Council song that I do not really like. It's interesting that I love this so much, but my teen years were in the 80's (graduated in 1984) and The Style Council has had such a huge impact on who I am. I have seen Paul a couple of times, but what I would give to see The Style Council.
Our wedding song after my best friend used "your the best thing" first, I win.
Nailed it john...................................nailed it.
😍yes😍yes😍yes
Same feelings
Same since 1984
Looking forward to seeing him live in 2022 💓
@@psibri1 I’m fortunate enough, see old enough, to have seen The Jam, Style Council and Paul solo, all fantastic gigs difficult to pick a favourite.
This song got me through the summer of '85. Loved it.
The combination of Paul Weller's incredible writing talent and Tracey Thorns' beautiful voice, the outcome can only be one of the most unique love songs ever written.
.. and the superbe Mick Talbot at piano...
...and Ben Watt on guitar
This version is timeless. Everything in the song is so well balanced, guitar, piano, drums and the heavenly voice of Tracey Thorn...perfect !
And also the super jazzy double bass!
I absolutely love this song. It can immediately transfer my mind from a place of boredom to a street in a beautiful European city.
Thats all its about,
Definitely a classic. Always makes me feel like sitting in an empty bar at three in the morning ...
Hmmm…and it’s raining.
@@Ttrzsofs298 Wondering where it all went wrong with some girl?
One of the coolest songs from that era. A terribly underrated and overlooked track.
Well said Sir.
This is just the most luscious song I have heard. Thanks for posting it.
Simply beautiful... Full of passion... Jazzy... Beyond it's time...
I just discovered this song a moment ago, an I know enough to know that this will stay with me forever.

The most beautiful song I have ever listened. That is it.
We wore this cassette tape out. I mean WORE IT OUT!
To hear this song now - w/the great audio - just thrills me! Many thanks
Tracey Thorn is SO underrated! She is absolutely wonderful.
Unique❤❤❤
This song haunted me for thirty years. I only saw it on vinyl in the early 80’s and it disappeared and was hard to find. Now here it is.
I finally found this classic song after years of trying to figure out the title😊.
a beautiful summers day lying around listening to this beautiful song is my idea of perfection
Bands come and go, the great ones leave a trail of unforgettable excellence!
Style Council falls deep into that category!
timeless.
.....and Tracey
Well said ! My oldest brother played this album when it was released. All these year later.... I still listen to this great song .
Some songs come off perfect, special and timeless. To define what it takes to reach that level is next to impossible, though plenty of people try. As a lifelong music addict and lover, this exquisite song does it for me. Thank you Paul, Tracey and the great musicians contributing. It will be heard well after all of us are somewhere else.
I remember first hearing this song and immediately think of a foggy, rainy night in Paris.
Yes !
Or New York... London too.
Who doesn´t remember a missing lover hearing: "I wish I knew where you are..."??
I remember those teenage days close to the sea when you knew someone brand new, special "better advice is have no regrets" that have clouded your mind"
Thousand ok thanks Paul, Mike and Tracy for creating this nostalgic place to join all of us
what a cool, smooth song, I remember I bought the record just because I heard this song on the radio back then - her voice is perfect as well WOW
Absolutely haunting…
I found the Cafe Bleu vinyl album in the early 90’s after someone gave me their turntable from the 70’s. I was already a Style Council fan but I hadn’t heard this. I was obsessed with this song and I still love it today ❤️
Same here
I’m only sad in a natural way
And I enjoy sometimes feeling this way
The gift you gave is desire
The match that started my fire
I heartily agree. The production of Thorn's version possesses such a presence. One of the great things about "Cafe Bleu" is how Weller fashions a distinct ambiance for every song. As way of demonstration, simply listen to the other version of "The Paris Match" and discern the differences.
The gift you gave is desire..
Txs again Mike & Paul
This was the theme song to my first love affair - so many years ago. I know she must think of me, too, when she hears this. We were so young, but when we listened to music like this, we felt mature and love was eternal.
breathtakingly beautiful. my all-time favorite council tune.
noooo....ok???
Same here
This song transports me into a good space. Tracy's voice is so smooth and combined with piano and guitar its magic.
Really i must admit their songs are deeply breathtakingly.
yes, reminds me of falling in love :)
Um jazz mesclado com Bossa Nova? Mistura fascinante. Som delicioso.
Esta canción define a la perfección las palabras "arte" y "elegancia" 🎩🔊🎶♥️🔥
Le emozioni che mi dà questa canzone sono indescrivibili.
tracy thorn has the best female vocal after karen carpenter
I agree 100%
Even before...
agree
I was lucky enough to be in love in a beautiful part of the world. Just one night of love making and this being played on repeat. As good as it gets.
Es la mejor interpretacion de genero musical que escuche en mi vida , perfecto.
Have always loved this song.....always will....absolutely brilliant blues with a touch of waltz! Amazing!
Excellent. "I am only sad in a natural way". What an elegant way of espressing it. "The gift you gave is desire". Just great. Way to go Tracey. One of my best song ever. Takes me back in time and forward with hope everytime I listen to this jewel. Grazie
Oh my does this song hold up. Such incredible restraint in Tracey's voice, and wonderful phrasing. And of course you can hear Everything But the Girl, almost fully formed. Love it!
Some really classy piano playing by Mick Talbot too.
My absolute favourite song, for more then 25 years. Allways does me good to hear this.
Tracey Thorn’s voice is beautiful
A great version of a great song by a great songwriter!!
wow this song reminds me of 1987. i love tracey thorns vocals here. of cors, i was listening to everything but the girl already, the album idlewild was out already.
Cette chanson me brise encore le coeur, et me fait pleurer...
One of the most underrated groups of all time!
I like this version a lot. It's an appropriately mellow arrangement for such a melancholic song.
crazy for this song.......
tracy thorn's voice is unmatchable.
Funny how we spend our lifes looking for big things, making plans and finally just little things in life this fulfill your mind
Sexiest song I’ve ever heard.
Amazing version of a true classic! Bravo Tracey,!
fab!!!
Don't forget Mick Talbot's tasty piano work on this, too. It well deserves a mention, wouldn't you agree?
Oasis reunion ? What a waste of time when you hear stuff like this finest song ever written 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Heard this song tonight when trying to sleep in a hotel in Delhi. Immediately fell in love...
Amazing.. pure romance at it's best... this is the kind of song that you want to dance only with your soulmate... Viva Romance
@noonoobelle69
Indeed
But this songs is timeless

高校生の時によく聞いたなぁ〜。今聴いても素晴らしい曲。いい時代。
Lazy Sunday, this is the perfect song :)
Wow! I haven't heard this since it was released. Bravo Tracey n Paul!
essa musica é maravilhosa,sensacional
I love the song and Tracy's vocals are breathtaking, beautiful and haunting at the same time. Thank you for posting. I like your choice of pictures too. The people are pretty, not as pretty as this song but seem to match the artistic mood the song injects. Thanks again.
there was Another slide show, a year ago with some older Pictures. Same great mood to this song.
Style council, everything but the girl, best combo.
No one could sing this classic like Tracey ! ❤
Ne kadar güzel ruha dokunan estetik algısı yüksek bir şarkı...🎶
The best mood music
this song is so great. long walks in the rain to record shops and book stores.thank you for posting this classic.
Прекрасная музыка! Мелодия и настроение, всё звучит шикарно!
Absolutely timeless 😍
Such a nice perfect song.
Perfect for sadness.
slow and draggy though.
whow i love that album what a great miss , great times .... and the song have such special flava today bcause i am in love too lol thanks for posting ^_^
I so love this woman's voice.....She could sing a ring tone and I'd download
Tracey thorn
Agree - always mesmerised by her voice - first heard her with massive attack
Beautiful! Tracy's voice is just...uhhh...I can't think of the best superlative to describe it. But one thing is very clear to me: Tracy's voice is unique, I love it, and nobody can accuse her of 'cultural appropriation'.
Haunting and beautiful song....wonderfully written and sung.
Why is this so underheard? It feels like it should be an all time classic that we've all heard.
Because it was an album track
I dig both versions. they put me in different moods and they are totally indispensable
Precioso...
Wonderful time to be in the 80s as a teener. Time stood still.
Masterpiece ❤
Piano exceptional on this, Mick Talbot ?
This song was incredible then. I may like it more now! Classic
At first I thought I was on stuck on an elevator in a building in 1980.
Paul Weller, the Jam and Style Council are good musicians. This woman can't sing all that well, and the arrangement sounds like it was done by somebody who needs a suppository to take a dump. I love jazz but this doesn't even come close to being decent jazz.
One of my favorite songs from the 80's
Que gran tema !!! 🥰
swoon. ah the memories of lying in my bed and my Dad shouting "Turn it down!" Ta for posting this.
my new favorite chill song
Brilliant music
This song belongs to the very bottom of our hearts, our first love desappointments, the way we used to think and feel..
Someone thrills me inside everytime I listen to it
Thanks T S C

tracy thorn is love
This song reminds me also of my year abroad in Copenhagen in 1987. I memorized every single word of this song, wanting to be like TT. How amazing voice she has.
Indeed They are The Stlye Council. Wellcome everyone to the council.
Thanks Paul and Mike
I couldn´t conceive such a hard life without a bit of relax time like this. Somehing thrills in my inside when I listen to this jewel. Thanks again
