    @jfox9126 2 года назад +35

    Haha your reference to the old movie where the guy stands outside a girl’s window playing a song on the boom box basically comes from the 80s movie “Say Anything” where the main character Lloyd stands outside this girl’s window playing the song “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. Truly one of the most iconic scenes in movie history. And the song “In Your Eyes” is one of the most beautiful heart felt songs you will ever hear. Nobody over the age of 30 doesn’t know that song. I don’t know why more people don’t react to it.

    Rev. Al, my fellow Arian. You can ask the majority of any artist in any genre of music who influenced them, and Al Green will undoubtedly be on their list. So influential and he only had about a good 10 year run from the late 60's to the mid 70's. And he didn't fall off of the charts, he left on his own to serve God. Can't be mad at him about that. A KING indeed.

  • @djklas
    @djklas 2 года назад +40

    These Al Green songs were all produced by Willie Mitchell. They all have a similar sound but they're still great on their own. If you like this same Willie Mitchell vibe I sugest some Ann Peebles songs like "Im gonna tare your playhouse down", "trouble, heartache and sadness", "I feel like breaking up somebodys home" or "I can't stand the rain" which was sampled on a Missy Misdemeanor Elliott song. All of these got an Al Green sound.

    • @anytimejammin-eva
      @anytimejammin-eva 2 года назад +2

      My fav of those songs are "I Can't Stand The Rain.."
      djklas, you taught me something new, or never thought about anyway.
      I mean I knew with Motown it had "that sound" from the musicians and producers. But never thought about that theory about other artists and record labels. I've always been a behind the music scene nerd. 🤓
      Thanks for today's lesson!

    • @djklas
      @djklas 2 года назад +3

      @@anytimejammin-eva yes indeed. Willie Mitchell and the Hi Records Band backed many of their artists. Motown had several producers like Holand Dozier Holland and Norman Whitfield but while they were in detroit it was the Funk Brothers who were the group of studio musicians on all those early hits. Another example is Philadelphia International Records whose house band had a full string section that became synonymous with the Philly Sound, mostly headed by Gamble and Huff..... but there are many studio band/production teams behind lots of labels throughout the country and you can definitly hear it in the music of each label if you pay attention.
