Like Prime 3 released on the Wii, a very successful console, yet it didn't sell as Prime 1, and even despite that Nintendo didn't forget about the series.
    Trust me when I tell you I also want to want this game to sell well, but what classifies as a "success" in this scenario seems like a weird thing to answer. It should at least sell as well, if not better than Dread.

    Once I got to the end of the video I completely understood why you are fearing what might happen given Prime 4 Beyond being released on the switch in its last year or so. Hopefully, ya'll don't get the Star Fox treatment and then have your game series (or in this case sub-series) put on ice for the whole console gen.

  • @Halucidnate
    @Halucidnate 21 день назад +1

    Awesome video, because I agree that the graphics have more potential on a more powerful console. The comment section for the IGN MP4 reveal trailer was less forgiving of the look of the game. And I hated to see it cause I love Metroid, but they were right.
    I, as a metroid fan, feel like we are well overdue for a Metroid game with current gen graphics. Don't get me wrong, MP4 does look decent, but I own a Switch and a PS5, and my girl owns a PC. I see the constant differences in graphics between systems. Graphics aren't everything, but it'd be nice if for once, that's a big selling point for a Metroid game.

      You might think that… but the graphics this Metroid prime game has is already good enough for me! I personally don’t want an ultra realistic graphics video game I never for a second of my life flipping care about graphics and if the graphics are good enough not too realistic and all that what is there to fix? and I personally think it looks good in-fact I prefer it this way I don’t even wish for better graphics if I get the new console just better vanilla space! Nintendo shouldn’t try to make its video games very realistic it should try to make them fun and try to conserve as much space as possible even on the new switch. I personally prefer art style over higher end graphics not everything has to look extra detailed.

    BotW released on the WiiU and it didn’t spell disaster. Nintendo promised on 2017 that the game would release on Switch, and they are following through on that like they did with Zelda.
    Also, keep your expectations realistic when it comes to Nintendo and hardware specs. They’re not going to release games with a 30-50 GB install size because it’s a hybrid system. You can’t run an SSD that hot on a handheld device and expect any semblance of performance or battery life.
    Nintendo has hitched its wagon to this strategy a long time ago by prioritizing software design over hardware.

    Great editing and I like your style. I subscribed.
    I feel where you're coming with this and I was also concerned about the switch release. Due to the art style they went with, it definitely seems scalable though if they were to cross-gen the game.
    Also, MP3 felt short in comparison to 2&1
    I wouldn't be happy with it, but if they expanded the game with an after story, I'd take that over nothing.
    I'm also a huge fan of the MP series, so I want to see it thrive. If MP4 ain't it, let's hope for MP5 I guess

They were willing to restart instead of cancel and hire a smorgasbord of the best devs to work with Retro. Not only that, they resurrected DREAD.. a basically 20 yr old dead game that was only rumored. Nintendo knows their exclusive IPs are their bread and butter. Even if one of them takes a dip, they are very willing to revive and give new life to each one eventually. Breath easy. We just ended the Metroid drought. It's about to be a Metroid renaissance.

    Development insight here. The scope of and core design of video games isn’t as defined as it has been in past generations to being only possible on specific hardware. Nowadays because x86 architecture is pretty much universal across the board. You can see this happening with the other platforms. Triple A 3rd party games still releasing across switch xbone ps4 ps4 pro xboneX and the series consoles. Both hardware and software for game development has become highly standardized in the modern era. Games are effectively just made and scaled to whatever device the devs want it on. Core game design concepts don’t change only visuals and frame rate. It’s as simple as will it run.

    I have zero worries after playing the prime remaster. Retro are absolute wizards. Cant wait for prime 4 and who knows we might get a somewhat enhanced version for switch 2. Part of me is happy tbh because if they DID design prime 4 from the ground up with switch 2 in mind they might take it in a very different direction that we dont want. Look at the ff7 remake for example, had they remade it for ps3 way back in 2009 it would likely be more like the og ff titles which I would have preferred. With prime 4 being made for switch it has a massive install base and is more likely to be designed similarly to prime 1 which I adore. Often times modern games try to do the bigger is better approach meanwhile they rarely are. Sometimes genius thrives within limitation. Time will tell though! I am super excited for it.

    Yes it would be amazing if Prime 4 was a Switch 2 exclusive but the Switch is on track to potenitally become the highest selling console of all time and a lot of people who own one aren't going to upgrade for a while, so from a sales perspective I think it makes far more sense for the game to be cross-gen even if it slightly limits the game's scope (which from the trailer I really don't think will be an issue as much as you're making it out to be) than to release it as a Switch 2 exclusive at the start of the system's life and hope that enough Metroid fans will hop on board immedietly and/or that enough people who are planning to upgrade immedietly are interested in the game.
    ESPECIALLY when the game was announced for the Switch and has been reaffirmed as a Switch title multiple times over the years, there will be many people out there who bought a Switch partially if not primarily for Prime 4 who would be rightfully mad if they were told nope sorry you need to buy another console for the game you've waited 8 years for.
    Hell I remember rumors in late 2016 that BOTW might get cancelled for Wii U and become a Switch exclusive and people were mad at that idea, so imagine the the outrage of Nintendo doing that with a platform more than 10 times as successful than the Wii U...

    You can't honestly believe that having metroid as a launch title for the next nintendo console is a good idea. Metroid is nowhere popular enough to be that, If anything having it as the launch title would actually hurt sales and back fire on the series future. I'm sorry but despite what you just said of the end it's nowhere near being one of Nintendo's most important properties and is not part of their so called big three. It's below series like kirby, Fire emblem, and xenoblade, let alone compared to title pokemon, splatoon, or animal crossing.
    Also not having it on the switch would definitely be a death sentence because it would be losing out on a huge audience to sell to. Also I highly doubt that retro studios would make a very short game like you're applying here just because it looks really nice. If anything they'll have it around the same length as the other games if not longer while still looking really good, your argument doesn't make any sense and this is coming from a preson who's not a fan of any metroid series or retro studios

  • @ridleykiller1994
    @ridleykiller1994 18 дней назад

    Sorry, but your analysis at the end was SUPER flawed. The assumptions you made about the next console are just hopium and copium. There's no indication that Nintendo would try to outgun the XbOneX or PS4Pro, and fitting that kind of hardware into an affordable portable package sounds both difficult, and very unlike them. Even the Steam Deck only gets compared to the PS4, and it isn't expected to play its flagship games at 1080p 60fps in docked mode as a basic feature like the new nintendo console would. Plus, you say that Prime 4 releasing as a swan song would be a death knell for it even if it also released on the new console, bit BotW did the same thing, and also did so after a super long development cycle, and it's one of the best selling games in recent history. Metroid may not have the same brand power, but if BotW was set up for success, then so is Prime 4

  • @Refefnir
    @Refefnir 23 дня назад

    I couldn't disagree more with your point of view.
    First of all, nintendo had cross-gen releases before. And very successful at times (BoTW as the latest installment).
    And retro studios now and in 00's are two completely different studios. Most of prime developers left in the last 20 or so years, so what familiarity is there?
    Also, game development changed a lot and games take longer to develop nowadays. Look at other series, like ratchet and clank, for example. First 3 games were done in a year each. Last installment took like 5 or so years.
    Why should metroid be an exception?
    The thing that worries me is the fact that it looks more like a halo game than a metroid prime. And it can be a flop like prime 3 was.

    Glad to see others willing to voice concern about this; as someone who has loved the franchise since Super Metroid, I WANT to be excited for Prime 4, but between the amount of time passed since Prime 3, the prior cancellation, the amount of fumbles Metroid has committed over the years (Other M, Federation Force, the killing of AM2R, etc.) and the general lousy, anti-consumer state of Nintendo, I can't help but be wary.
    And yes, I am fully aware mine is an unpopular opinion and will most likely get me flamed by Nintendo fanboys (truly the battered housewives of gaming; no matter how much they are mistreated they just keep coming back for more), so be it, some people simply have no intention of listening to differing opinions.

      Oh I’m listening I understand your opinion your concerns are valid. yes Nintendo gets on my nerves a lot! they still won’t port two Zelda games I’ve never got to try on switch! but I also heard that one of the main reasons prime 4 got restarted was because Nintendo wasn’t impressed with the way things were going with it and at the time it wasn’t being made by retro studios so Nintendo was like scrap it and start over! This time with retro studios, and Nintendo was doing good making the newest 2D Metroid so they still could potentially do good with the newest 3D one your right tho that Nintendo a lot of the time is anti consumer but if it wants to keep alive it has to make video games that interest people and one thing I’ll mention they did that was not anti consumer was making Metroid prime remastered only 40$.

    A short game? Damn. I have been worried about Nintendo releasing Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on the Switch, esp. this late. I fear it'll be another Samus Returns. I do worry that if Beyond fails, Nintendo will see this as a problem with the series, rather than their fault for releasing it at all so late.
    I'm sure Nintendo has spent over 100 million dollars, minimum, on this game alone. Even if it's a success in terms of critical reception, I doubt it will break even.
    When the last Nintendo Direct happened on June 18, I suspected we would see Beyond, and it was at this point that I didn't want to. And unlike with Dread and Remastered, where I was shouting with excitement, this was a fizzle by comparison.
    I hope Beyond succeeds and surpasses Dread, because this game is going to need a miracle like that if it's going to be successful. I prefer the side-scrollers, but this needs to succeed, or we might see another hiatus.

    I really hope that Prime 4 will be the next BOTW and I, too, was kinda disappointed to see it pop up in that direct. Hopefully the fact that it has to run on Switch doesn't cripple it too much, because 5 years of radio silence for a crippled game is ridiculous. And this argument can be made for Tears of The Kingdom, too. The entire thing is a huge "YES, but..", and most of it has to do with the fact that the Switch is not capable of handling the 2 "new worlds to explore" that we were promised.
    Part of me still hopes that the game will run kinda meh on Switch, as I have heard that BOTW does on WiiU, and actually be the game we all deserve on the next console.
    Also, if this game flops, Nintendo better realize that the only reason why it, and most of Metroid really, never became as successful as Zelda, is because of their garbage commercial decisions, surely not the franchise.

    Hot take: Metroid is better as a 2D game and always has been. If this ends the Prime franchise, I'll only be sad that I don't get more Metroid, not that I'll get less Prime.
    Dread showed that the desire and love for 2D Metroids is still there, and the fan response to Prime 4 has been great, but if I had to choose, I'll always choose 2D.
    The sheer number of indie games that are 2D Metroidvanias based on the success of the format should speak to what I'm saying. I don't see too many first person Metroidvanias around these days.

The first Metroid prime game was made somewhere in the early 20s it’s old the other two are also old they aren’t new and Nintendo was very experimental varying in success so not corporate and the 3D Metroid entries for the most part aren’t fps they are first person exploration games that you also have a gun as a weapon for defense,opening doors and fighting but they have been a thing since the very first Metroid game so what you said was absolute baloney and Nintendo is not the Japanese government I’ll tell you that!
