Yeah, honestly. Because takara tomy is marketing them TO Adults. They're ads have adults using them... like i don't know why people think there is so such thing as "childrens's toys" there are only toys. This is a hobby though. Like it's literally a hobbie game. Like magic the gathering or D&D... it should be treated as such rather than trying "validate" liking them as adults...

So I’m a submariner and on a recent underway, one of my buddies and I decided to pick up a few boxes of beyblades and a couple arenas to make a tournament for some moral boosting.
When I tell you I was lambasted by the upper chain of command for doing something so “childish” I almost cancelled it. But I held on and still brought it with me. To say it was a MASSIVE hit was an understatement. The very same people who were shitting on the idea ended up participating and we all had so much fun with it.

I made a terrifying discovery, the orange top with the spring on the bottom had a weird middle segment, and I managed to put 3 weight disks on it. After locking the spring in the "retracted" position I had a top with over twice the weight of the competition, and dominated middle school recess.

In 3.5, there was a psionic class that fought using a large psycrystal. Bet you can guess how RP'd that.
I had gotten into Burst just as it ended. The burst mechanic, and the clicks that leads to them, intrigued me because "they added a hp system to beyblade" sold me. I bought some, quickly learned that COUNTERFEIT beyblades weren't just a thing but a common occurrence, and ended up researching where to buy legit ones (also the difference between the western and eastern versions). Afterwards X started rolling out and...I didn't want to spend even more money on imports. Thirty dollars a beyblade wasn't a lot, but it kinda was (ignoring that the one I really wanted, Roar Bahamut, was RIDICULOUSLY expensive).
When I learned that X was coming to the states And that they were supposedly not going to gimp the designs like they did with burst, I was excited. I now own seven of the little dudes and am looking back at the jp market to get ones that aren't out here yet. I'm hooked!

idk how it is for the US, but for us in France (we got the physical releases a month ago as exclusives to 1 store and will officially get wave 1 on the 15th), import is not much more expensive than in store if you take several at once on amazon jp.
For reference, the regular prices are cheaper (starters are 13e and boosters are 10e, vs ~10e for starters and 7.3e for boosters on amazon jp) and alone there's like 17e of shipping, but the shipping doesn't go up much as long as you take small things (it's like 21e for 3 beys, or 7e/bey, which still makes it 30 to 40% more expensive, but far from ending up at 30e/bey)

16:15 just FYI, actually the string launcher has a bit less power/resistance than the big ripcord bcuz it has a lower gear ratio. This lower resistance can help to keep your launcher holding hand more stable for better control. And if you need more power from a string launcher you should focus more on whipping out the string with higher speed rather than just pulling with more power like you can on the ripcord launcher.

One thing to note is, that while there is a power difference, the difference can be overmatched by practicing how to launch harder with string. Generally with string launchers, you essentially have to work on maximizing as much energy as you can into the draw length of the string. One thing I’d recommend doing is, no beyblade practice launching reps, and also doing reps with a beyblade too. Because there is a lot of muscle memory involved into maximizing the potential of the string launcher.
Also one thing to note, there is a good chance that there is less of a gap in power between the Hasbro string launcher and the TT/pro ripcord/winder launcher. As a lot of the Hasbro string launchers seem to have a longer string.

It's honestly a blast, and as a shelf item they take up relatively little space as a whole, so I don't need a million binders like I used to for Yugioh/Pokemon TCGs.

Who knew that putting more strategy depths into a game and iterating on it while sticking to what is great is good for brand growth, recognizability and longevity.
I have this feeling that this generation is made by people who loved the game while they were kids and grew up wanting to share the experience to the newer generation. It also feels like they want to bring back all those who grew up with the game but was unable carry their hobby forward with them for whatever reason and let them know that they are seen and appreciated.

In Brazil kids were taking the kitchen sink metal "filter" that looks a lot like a beyblade base (that piece that stops food pieces) , attaching the soap bottle tips (that look like a beyblade tip) and for some reason fits exactly on the kitchen sink filter. That were our beyblades back in the day. We would dig a small circular hole in the dirt and just let it rip.

My two younger cousins brought over their starter set today, and I was blown away. I only played with the original plastic generation Beyblades from the OG to the Engine Gear and MS era. But I have to say, this generation of Beyblades is by far the best. The battles are far more intense and unpredictable, the Beyblades have an OG style back with some proper combinations from Metal Fight and Burst, and the concept of X gets rid of one of the biggest problems I've found with previous eras (that is, the heaviest Beyblades that can stay in the center almost always won). Now with the X-elarator rail and the new point system format, that big problem is long gone! Honestly, I'm tempted to get back into it, but I'd likely be the only one in my area that would do that... So... I'll still think about it, I guess...

My childhood Beyblade combo was so unbeatable, it got banned. It was a mix of my first one, a turtle one with a heavy metal hexagonal disk, and that weird Dragoon model that almost looks like a pogo stick.
If it retained stabilty (which it did 90%of the time), it would just stand there, begging to jam up any other beyblade while the metal disk gyroscopically assisted in keeping it inertia when getting impacted by the opponents Beyblade.
Man, how cheap are these again?

    One more (last) comment:
I love how launch technique has stayed in the minds of Takara Tomy. I’ve played around with 5 different X beys now, customized them differently, and launched the differently. Every battle feels different, while my Wizard Arrow is my best setup, I can’t wait to get my hands on newer ones with more “gimmicks” to their spin.
Also, a line of all the original plastic beys remade for X would easily take my wallet.

Me and my bro were the Metal Fury masters of our city block, I had a Quetzocoatl and he had a Dark Helm, I was second and he was first respectively. The reason his beyblade was so powerful is that we used our beyblades on concrete, and thus obliterated his beyblade’s tip to a chaotic point. Mine was good ‘cause it weighed a lot and wasn’t really easy to throw off-balance. One day we had the bright idea to combine our beyblades together and it was so powerful that every time we used it it would explode on contact with any enemy bey (years before beyblade burst) no matter how much we tightened the bolt. Wondering how well we’d do all these years later if we entered our beys in a tournament today, ignoring the fact that retro beys without built-in burst are probably illegal now.
