  • My water service line from the meter was leaking. We dig up the pipe, find the problem, and fix it.

@@FamilyFriendlyDIY well, in my neck of the woods that black plastic pipe hasnt been sold for 40 years or so. the only time i see it is on old farms and its a pain in the neck to make repairs because fittings arent readily availible. if it were my job i would have deleted the swing check valve (if permitted by local code) and ran 1 inch Pex B pipe to the house using Viega fittings. i also would have drilled a 1 1/8 inch hole threw the footing and made my connection inside the basement so the copper pipe thats encased in cement could be done away with befofe it starts leaking. copper and concrete dont like each other.
that being said you made a solid repair and im sure you have much better water pressure now too!

@@jamesyarbrough4777 Definitely sounds like a more solid fix. I'll bet you have a big beast for core drilling??

Our lines must be down 4'6". 12" makes the job a lot easier. Your initiative and patience is well noted. Good job.

I wonder if a machine that small could even dig in my yard! I have never used one, either.

Nice job. The trencher would have been faster and neater, but not as much fun, just saying…
