Hijacking this comment to say that bushed metal is cheaper to make than matte metal. The brushed finish is applied directly after the metal exits the mill/extrusion die/drawing processes. It simultaneously removes imperfections on the surface and produces the distinctive finish. A matte finish requires that the surface imperfections be removed beforehand so that the metal can be sandblasted or annealed again. Often brushing is used to prepare the surface.

Not sure about the black one but i've seen the blue ceramic one over at the AD near my area. Its finished nicely with the vertical brushing like the bezel.
If I wanted an unreadable dial I would have bought the Casio G Shock 2100 black out. At least that one has 200 mr WR and tripled in price the last couple of months.
In the Q4 2019 edition of WatchTime there are very good closeups of the watch and it clearly shows a brushed bezel and a plain black MAT finishing on the case. Take a look at it. I don’t think the discrepancies you’ve highlighted are in any way intentional. I can even send you a photo of you want.

Some that are in line with the watches delivered to influencers, and others that are not. I may have approached it from the angle of having consistency in marketing rather than sensationalizing the topic by using the words “false advertising”. Anyhow, we can agree to disagree. The modern methods of watch making are designing models upon outsourcing svailability of raw cases(heads), movements, Crystal's, bracelets/straps etc. With some minor and overall modifications to these components ie. Laser engraving, screening. Shaping, drilling. Even graphics and packaging is third party. Albeit mostly micro brand practices.
Could have just called one of boutique and point out the image problem which will be reported to HQ, but you made a whole 11 min video about this tiny sh*t and humiliate Zenith...Good call

I purchased a blue ceramic Zenith Defy Skeleton, my main problem was that it was advertised as a 41mm, when I put my calipers on it the watches measured at 39mm How do you get the size wrong?

You proved this firsthand for me because you cover field watches because that is an interest of your as it is mine and is how I became interested in the Serica WWW WMB edition. I had never heard of this watch until you talked about it. So I went other places for reviews and bought one and I am just so captivated by it. more than often i would say prototypes DO have more detail or ‘quality’ than final production lines. A designer doesn’t necessarily think of cost before they design something, of course they try to fit a price-point, but its not always easy to meet. So designers will work ‘backwards’ from their original design.
Something I noticed that I don’t know if anyone else did is that the minutes hand on the defy classic is way too long. Because the printer minute markers are the same thickness (different length however) as the second marks and the minutes hand is so long you can’t exactly see what minute it is, you have to approximate. This was in 2019 and on zeniths website for 2020 the minute hand was shrunk substantially to make sure that you can read the minute more easily as now it is below the marker instead of in the middle. If you don’t believe me go compare 2019 and 2020 pics ;)
Zenith seems to be taking design queues from Hublot and making complicated dial/skeleton watches that are effectively unreadable. It doesn’t matter that the case finishing is different, it can’t do job #1, telling time.
Seems very odd that there is such a clear screw up in a large well respected company. If you go to their Instagram page back to back posts show the same watch with different finishings...

It's poor, yes, but I believe they do this purely to get the conversation going. Look at practically any prototype car image release, then compare to the actual subsequent release. The prototype is ALWAYS better looking. By then however, the word is well and truly out. Just a theory but yes, it's an underhand way of promoting a new product. Love the channel, keep it up! 😁👍
Get the watch in front of your face never trust some photoshopped render and, for that matter, never trust a flat light photo. There’s no substitute for getting the watch in front of your face. The light entering your eye balls will either satisfy the lard between your ears or not. It’s that simple.

Doesn’t show a brushed case on their website. Zenith are doing a great job and they don’t need unnecessary bad press. Those watches where press watches just like Rolex does. They are still beautiful watches
Actually it shows it both ways. If you scroll down past the specs on Zenith's site all three pictures have brushed cases. You can clearly see the front, side and back of the case and all of those pictures show nice brushing to the case. Only at the top of the page does the case appear to be matte.
