What made him such a good player is his control of the ball, also him only being 5’5 tall giving him a low centre of gravity which added with his dribbling abilities and his natural strength made it so hard for players to get the ball off of him and not forgetting he had a great shot on him and loved to showboat his skills. He was also a leader on the pitch and brought out the best in players around him. 1986 is the only World Cup Argentina have won in their history and their entire team was average except they had this one little man carry them through it. Maradonas status also comes from off the pitch, he was raised in serious poverty and his rise to stardom also led to him getting into drugs and drink. He often played games high on cocaine and also as a manager. This lead to massive declines in his health and also lead to him retiring sooner. So his life is filled with not only glory but tragedy aswell. His wild character is also why he’s regarded as a legend as it’s always a special thing when you see a footballer who is such a character and Diego certainly was.
Your review was very good, only that Argentina, beyond Maradona, did not win once but also in 1978. It also got runner-up in 1930, 1990 and 2014.

The clip that made me fall in love for Maradona is a 3:50 min clip called Live is life. When I was a kid I watched that clip and just embodies everything that Maradona was. While his teammates are stretching and warming up for the match, Maradona is juggling the ball amazingly and dancing to the music. No one had this skills at the time and he made it look so effortlessly while doing it full of life.
As people have already pointed out, please watch his documentary called “Diego Maradona”, it’s an amazing story of his life

The thing which makes a lot of these clips better than they look is that he was playing in an era of football where they were much more lenient with punishing fouls. Especially in the Italian league where he played his most prominent years. The oppositions managers would say to all of his team "do whatever it takes to stop him for getting past you", which basically means try to injure him from minute one. There was the story of a player, Goikoetxea, who broke Maradona's ankle so severely he kept the boots that he was wearing and placed them in a glass case at his house.

The ‘Hand of God’ in 86 hurt, but just like the rest of the world England respects Maradona as he is truly the GOAT of football. A pure magician on the ball and what a character.

Edit: just too mention Maradona himself named it the ‘Hand of God’ as the game Argentina vs England in the World Cup was 4 years after the Falklands war which added the extra spice to the game, it was also incredible how he scored arguably the worst (cheating by using his hand) and the best goal (dribbling past 6 players) in WC history in the same game.

He has a record of being the most tackled in one game. Now it is way less physical. Napoli let him play no matter what. The documentary shows really dark side of football then (treated like property). Has changed now and players have way more to say about their working conditions.
The reason why Diego Armando Maradona was so special was for what he was and for what he did.
Maradona showed many emotions from crying to anger to absolute euphoria.
An example of why he was so special would be for what he did for Napoli (the team with the light blue shirt towards the end of the video) and the city of Naples.
In Italy, the north kinda looks down at the south and teams ftom the south would never win the scudetto (the national championship) so it just helped people from the north to look down even more at the south.
So when he went to play for Napoli they were the absolute underdogs with no trophies in their history. When he played for them he won the scudetto for them 2 or 3 times and the UEFA CUP one of the top european competitions which changed their history forever. Since he left them they never won any competition ever again.
He also loved his country Argentina and brought them success winning the world cup in 1986. His performance at the world cup is probably the best individual performance at a world cup ever. He also took them to the final 4 years later but lost. To realise how much he meant to them then you just need to watch how they reacted to his death.
He also nearly ruined his legacy with his drug scandals. An example of that is the at the end of the video when he is celebrating while approching the camera his face shows that he clearly on cocaine and that was at the USA 1994 world cup. He later got caught on the drugs test during the tournament. However the drugs don't take away from his talent.
I would recommend you to watch 1986 world cup review on the fifa tv youtube channel, russell brand's video on him and any documentary about him.

The true GOAT. RIP to a legend. What he did in 86 and at Napoli cannot be surpassed. They were nearly relegated the season before he arrived and had never won anything in their history. He left with two league titles, a European trophy and super cup. They won their third title and the first since he left only last season.
He was paid a lot of money for the time in the late 80’s, early 90’s. He was considered the best player in the world and earned around $10m including endorsements, equivalent to around $28m today during his seven seasons at Napoli which also included a life long deal with Puma, his boot suppliers. Even then he owned Porches and Ferrari’s. It was vastly more than what even other top players were getting paid back then.

Diego's era was the toughest ... there were many high-quality players, and they hit much more than today ... those who hit were rarely penalized.
And everything he achieved was achieved on weak teams ... he was never on teams with the best players of his time. He had to face the best players and teams.
Messi has been great, but he has been great in the best teams of his era and playing with some of the best players of his era.
No one had the context of Diego ... no one ... all the other greats in soccer history played for the best teams of their eras with several of the best teammates and national teams of their time.

One of the greats. Came from poverty in Argentina and learned his trade on the streets.
Probably Diego's rivals would have been Zico, Platini, Rummenigge from Brazil, France and Germany and he possibly played against these players at club level too.
It's hard to say what made him world class and so prolific, because skill alone doesn't always do it. A world class player will know what he's going to do and when he does something it'll be a split second before anyone else has guessed what he's going to do. Maradona had speed, control, and natural ability. The kind of ability you learn on the street, the kind of ability that isn't coached.
For me, he is up there with Zico, Pele, Cruyff, Messi and Ronaldo (both of them) .
To answer your question about how much he'd be paid, it's hard to say. Today, he'd be on $400,000 a week like the elite of today are. But footballers a few decades before him had full time jobs as well as playing football, so it's somewhere in the middle. An article I just read says at Napoli he was paid $60,000 per week which is what an average-to-decent player would be paid now. But sponsorships with sports brands, he'll be making more than double that a year.
If you enjoy great sports stories, finding a book or documentary about maradona would be well advised, such an interesting life from absolute poverty and growth issues to winning the world cup via a whole mess of drugs, mafia and class conflict. His story would make an all time great 30 for 30.

You should react to someone like Neymar, not as good of a footballer as someone like messi, ronaldo or maradona but some of the things he can do with just his feet and a ball is mindblowing and would make for a great reaction!
