      Unfortunately, they don't have a showroom anymore. It was sort of a temporary pop up store (experiment). I think they are working on setting up another. Although they are doing some watch meetups in town where they are showing off their watches. If you follow them on Instagram or Facebook you can see when they are doing them.
      I think there is even one this Thursday.

I prefer a 430 date because I like having all my hour markers and I wish there was less text on the dial just the strat o timer 1 line would be more classy IMO. The rest of the watch looks pretty good. overall a good offering I think.

  • @khronokraze
    @khronokraze 2 года назад +1

    I really like what they have done here. Packed in quite a bit for a decent price, especially at the early bird price for under $900. Relatively compact size, traveler's GMT, good lume from dial to bezel, bi-directional bezel, seemingly good quality bracelet, tool-free microadjust clasp, nice color options.
    Although, the overall design is very nice, I feel is somewhat standard or what many would expect... Which given that they are looking to appeal to the masses should be very successful. Idk? Just a little something about it lacks the complete hook and catch for me, personally. Maybe it's too standard affair? But, as I mentioned, it should still be a very successful new watch that should sell very well because it has that "standard" mass appeal design and features. It's an excellent first attempt at such a watch , regardless.
    Btw, I like the choice to just use the lone star logo instead of the full Jack Mason text logo on the dial.
    As far as other GMTs with 9075, I think u may find the new Gavox Longitude a cool new offering.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  2 года назад +1

    I like the gmt movement but not the retro design. Prefer the more toolish, lume filled look. They didn’t take advantage of the slim movement to produce a slimmer profile.
    Should have added the inner chapter ring with 24 hour marker enable fast time reading of the gmt hand.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  2 года назад +1

      Agree with chapter ring, although might make it a little more crowded. As for the thickness, one thing they mentioned was that they went with a box cut crystal to help give the case itself a slimmer profile. Then the crystal rises up to fit all 4 hands in.
      Although have to see how this one compares in thickness to the others coming out.

I think it's well executed, it's just not for me, even though I appreciate the Made in the USA effort regarding the assembly/ fit and finish. I have a flyer (true) GMT and time-setting feels a bit backwards when you mainly focus on local time: you have to set it twice basically, first set the 24-hr GMT hand + minute hand, then set the hour hand. If you're constantly away from home at different time zones this is great, but otherwise cumbersome for most. You also cannot quick-set date, you need to turn the hour hand twice past 12 to advance or backtrack a day. I start to wonder if an office GMT would be a more straightforward affair. Btw Zelos is coming out with a new GMT.

    • @Simplicimus1945
      @Simplicimus1945 Год назад +2

      As far as I’m concerned, the moniker is backwards.
      A jumping hour hand is better for fidgeting in the office.
      Much as I love to constantly be pulling the crown out when traveling, it’s easier on the watch (and me) to simply adjust the chapter ring.

      From what I've seen already, the biggest differences are going to be the size. I think the boldr is about 44mm with a 52mm lug to lug. So much bigger. Which seems to be typical of their divers.

  • @markedfortime
    @markedfortime 2 года назад

    Really great review! This has been on my radar. It looks nearly perfect, but for the dial design just feels a little crowded with the block style indices and the mismatched hands. If the indicies were just a little smaller with the ha fs being g just a little thicker, this would have been an instant purchase. The case style, while a bit pedestrian is compensated by that amazing bracelet they've put together. I give them tremendous credit for remembering the bracelet is a critical component of the watch.
    The Bolder case and dial design IMO looks a bit better, but the JM bracelet and color ways beat Bolder's by miles. I'd pay the premium for a quick-adjust bracelt any day. Trying to pick between the two is difficult.
    The reality I'm living is inwas seriously considering the Formex Reef at double the price. These more affordable watches make me question my intent. Then the whole question of whether I really "need" another watch comes to play?

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  2 года назад +1

      Next year there will be a few more 9075 based GMTs. From what I've been hearing, Miyota is being really selective about who is getting them though. So they won't be coming out as fast and furious as the Seiko based ones.
      The Boldr looks good, very much in keeping with their style. But it's a bit big... as usual for them. The 44mm width might not be too bad, but the 52mm lug to lug kills it for me.

  • @MrRarbelaez
    @MrRarbelaez Год назад

    Nice to see new Miyota based GMTs competing with the undisputed kings of the affordable true GMTs, the Powermatic 80 GMTs.
    The bulova was the only one currently competing at this price range, but its looks are divisive. I always thought the Miyota being slimmer would end up in watches more easily wearable than the Powermatic GMTs (usually a bit chunkier and larger) and offering a 4 Hz movement to top it all. The Mido oceanstar GMT, the best of the powermatic GMTs, although an amazing timepiece, gorgeous and suoer precise, beats at a jittery 3Hz.
    A 4Hz true GMT under 1000 dollars is tempting indeed, although to best the competition it has to be very precise, the Powermatic 80s I’ve experienced are all within COSC parameters, that laser regulation performed by robots produces amazingly accurate movements out of the box….I don’t know if the Miyotas are as precise (I guess I’ll have to take one for the team and buy one to find out).

    Great to see a decent watch from a brand that's not Swiss, Japanese, Chinese, German!. I do travel a lot between Western Europe and Asia on business and I often use my Casio Royale (it's the best and often don't even have to take it off going through airport security as it doesn't register.) However I do sometimes use a GMT watch and it's an "office" GMT. How does it work traveling? Exactly like a "true" GMT. True GMT is not a better GMT. It's a misnomer, a marketing ploy. They both do the same job, only the mechanics are different. The convenience of one over the other is negligible at best. Both of them are true GMT's. If we were being honest, we would possibly say a GMT Type 1 and Type 2, as neither is more truly a GMT than the other. Your NH34 is as true a GMT movement as any other. There is a significant downside to one of these movements though. A so called true GMT can be far more difficult and expensive to repair and service. Having said all that, this is a beautiful watch the price is pretty good for the movement. But one should be aware, if you need a GMT when you're traveling, you don't need to spend $800 to $1,000. You won't get lost in time if you use the Seiko movement.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  2 года назад +1

      I always figured the "True GMT" moniker came about do to the luxury watch snobs looking down on every one else. That said, I have found it to be more convient when travelign as you don't have to retrain yourself to look at the gmt hand for local. Plus if you traveling across the globe, the date will be synced to local time not home time.
      Yet at the same time, we humans are intelegent and adaptable creatures, so we can learn to use anything effectively. So I don't think it's "truely" superior. Or someone needs to rush out and buy one. Especially this day and age... it's actually more convient to say "Siri, what time is it in..."
      Although one GMT I still love, and still wear frequently, is my Longinves VHP GMT. Since it's a little more high tech, I like that it can basicly switch between being a Callers GMT or a Travelers by double pushing the crown.

    The "assembled in US" is more of a marketing targeted to American consumers. I still see it as a micro-brand primarily made out of Chinese factories, but with regulation according to the website. The design is above average with blocky markers and hands with turtle-like cushion case enhancing the wear-ability. Dive GMT watches is mushrooming like crazy, and there will be a lot more affordable options coming out next year.
    Preorder it now! It is a limited edition!! 😁

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  Год назад

      Well one thing to remember is that "Assembled in the US" is our version of "Swiss Made". The US is one of the few countries where the regulations actually require everything to be made and sources here in order to qualify for a "Made in the USA" tag.
      So that's about as good as most watches can get here. Heck Shinola couldn't even get away with "Built in Detroit", the FTC came down on them for that.
      For me the advantage of it, as well as Swiss Made is more localized quality control. QC seems to be one area that Chinese based factories typically fail at. Letting subpar products slip through the cracks to consumers.
      So I like to think would be better at that, but I don't know for certain.

    The readability is impaired by the crystal's edge. The diffractions and the reflections on the edge make the dail look blurry and broken up depending on the viewing angle. The crystal's edge 'shrinks' the readable surface area of the dial, which, like your said, is kind of crowded on any GMT as it is. I would suggest to install an all 'flat' crystal.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  2 года назад

      I think I mentioned that at ceratin angles and intense light it can look a little washed out. Not sure about the black or silver dials. That said, I'd still take the blue as I love the overall colorway.
      One of the reasons they said they went with the box crystal was to help with thickness. So that the case itself could be thinner, and then the crystal rises up for the increased height needed for the 4 hands. So i guess it's always a game of give and take.

    Wow assembled in the USA, big deal . Who cares. Movement is made in Japan, rest of parts are probably made in China or somewhere in Asia. It’s assembled and regulated in the USA but it could assembled and regulated in Taiwan or Malaysia and it would make no difference , it’s a Marketing gimmick . 150 grams is too heavy for me personally , My 1995 Rolex Explorer 2 Polar is about 125 grams and anything over that is too heavy for every day wear for me. The name printed on the clasp sucks, they should just have the star logo. The name should only go on the box and papers .And price is nothing special , Miyota movements are not expensive so the total cost of this watch would be I’m guessing around $100-200 depending on production volumes . $1000 sales price is not exactly a “ steal “ if you consider what it probably costs to make and the movement .The design is nice . With regards to the bracelet you would also have to see if it “ pulls any hair “ especially the jubilee style one , those can do that . Overall I think it’s not bad , but I would not buy one mainly due to the weight on the bracelet .

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  Год назад

      Well some will care about the assembled in the USA thing, some won't. It's basically our equivalent of "Swiss Made", at least for Swiss watches under $2k. It's just the US has much stricter requirements about what "Made in" means. Although "Swiss Made" at that price and under is also a bit of a marketing gimmick. Most of those watches are also only assembled in Switzerland, and It's debatable if they could do a better job with the assembly than a Chinese factory.
      I talk more about this in their Hydrotimer review (their diver), but for me there are two good things I like about it. The first is that it adds a whole new layer of QC into the production process. The biggest complaint about Chinese-made watches (and Seiko at this point) is a lack of QC. Things getting through that shouldn't. Where this is a 3rd party that has no affiliation with the parts manufacturer. So they should have no problem calling out defects when they find them.
      Along the same lines is the extra regulation they do after they assemble them. Which doesn't necessarily need to be done in the US, but should be done after the watches are put together. This is always nice, but does take extra time and money to do. I can't speak for every watch that was made, but the production unit I eventually got runs about +2 sec a day.

    • @RelativeTime

      Well these days no one really needs a GMT. Afterall its a lot more convinent to say "Google / Siri / Alexa what time is it in..." But the whole point of the on the fly adjustable hour or GMT hand was for pilots. That they could adjust it and keep their watch in sync.

      @@happywanderer5632 @happywanderer5632 obviously you feel very passionate about this, but again I disagree. Well the design is not highly original, I wouldn't say it's a copy of anything either.
      While various components I could see being inspired by various other watches, I've never seen a combination quite like it. If anything, maybe it's like a GMT version of a slim turtle... Which doesn't exist. And as someone who has owned a slim turtle. I can tell you first hand this watch is far better.
      If anything I would say it's derivative, which is not necessarily a bad thing. As in order for a brand to be successful, they need to straddle that fine line between originality and familiarity. I've seen it time and time again when a brand puts out something really cool yet strange and it never sells.
      As for the movements, times have changed and inflation sucks. These days 9000 series miyotas are regularly in the $600s whereas a few years ago, you'd be hard to find one over 400. But let's Not forget that this is a brand new true GMT movement from them, which is a whole other conversation by itself.
