I love the idea of themed roasts! One week have people submit their favorite author/series shelf (like the dune guy) or pick the series yourself (WoT, for example) Next time have them submit books featuring dragons Next, have them submit featuring a certain color, holiday, etc. It wouldn't have to be "their bookshelf" per se, but that tidbit of collection has to be presented in a visually interesting way. It would cut down the submission volume too, no doubt.
My cat chews all my books so they're currently hidden in different parts of the house. It's surprisingly hard to find a bookshelf with doors or glass to keep the contents safe.
A small note about the hidden twitter reply: I don't think that it works as you described. You technically hid the tweet, but when you press on the "Show hidden replies" I could still see the tweet you mentioned. Not sure if there is really a way to make the reply truly invisible for everyone. In a way this approach seems even more counterproductive because people get curious what tweets you chose to hide.

You could roast: - peoples fav books / book series - least favorite books/ book series - funko pop collections in general lmao - fav book quotes Or do this thing where you ask for pics of bookshelves, fav books, etc and start making assumptions (and semi fanfics) about the person based on it, that's always pretty funny

Re cleaning up first: I think people feel like they're showing their shelves off to a buddy, not some rando internet stranger. Face it, you've pulled together a community that feels warm and inviting, so people aren't going to treat it like 10's of thousands of people are going to see it. 100% your fault you friendly, well-meaning, handsome, bookish bastard.
After years of overstuffing my shelves because I told myself I can have no more shelves and have to go one-in-one-out, I quickly began to cheat by just buying the smallest possible version of the books I want. I am pretty sure this stopped being a healthier choice for me well before I started looking up the dimensions of books I buy online so I would have until they arrived to emotionally come to terms with having to do a big reorganising.
