    Hello Sir,
I have 3 Year experience in manual testing. I want to move in automation .
Sir, I have question shall I move for functional testing like selenium web driver or Non Fictional testing tool like J meter?
    Sir please guide.
    Thank you.

    • @RaghavPal
      @RaghavPal  3 года назад +9

Hi Arpit, thanks for your ques. You can definitely move into Automation Testing, and I will tell you the process and the plan
But before that, you have asked whether you should go for functional testing like using Selenium OR non-functional testing using tools like JMeter
Now first we should have a clarity on what is Functional and what is non functional
Functions testing deals with the actual functional scenarios of the application for example a login scenario, you will be testing the application with all the possible use-cases and data sets for login and checking if the login is successful or unsuccessful.
So in simple words you will be testing the application with all the user scenarios. Like what all a general user can do with the application
When we talk about non-functional, it is about checking the application for
      Performance
      Security
      Portability
      Scalability
      Reusability
      Etc
And there are tools and platforms for all of these, Like JMeter if for performance & load testing.
Now for both of these types of testing i.e. functional and non-functional and talking specifically about automation, You will find tools and platforms for doing these testing in automated way.
So you will be required to
      learn the tools,
      create projects, frameworks,
      handle requirements,
      Analyse and present results
      Troubleshooting, maintenance, enhancements
Now both have good demand and future, So first decide which one you want to take up. You may also get skilled on some tools from both of the areas.
Now I will come general tips on moving from manual to automation
      1. First check if you have option to move into automation team within your current org. This will be the safest option. You can talk to your team, seniors or the right people, Check what are the skills you should learn, You can talk to people in current automation team to understand their work & responsibilities and can plan for learning the required skills
      2. Now assuming that option 1 is not present for you. In that case you can plan to get skilled on general automation testing skills - Start with Selenium (UI Testing) and related tools- Learn a API Test Automation tool like Postman- Get some basic knowledge on Automation Test Plan, process, etc- Start applying for jobs in Automation Testing ( do this along with all of the above)
      3. Start finding and applying for Test Automation job along with your learning process, Don’t wait to get all the skills you plan. As this process can also take some time, You may also find some options where companies are looking for people with some general testing exp and are willing to learn and perform in test Automation

Hello Raghav, I have a question, I have a career gap of almost 8 years. I worked as manual tester .I have last worked in April 2013.I have work experience of 2 yrs. Because of family reasons I was not able to work for 4 yrs. After 4 yrs I didn't get any interview calls, very few calls I got and after that my confidence level has gone down. Recently I have done a certification in Automation anywhere and I got one or 2 calls, but when I say I have a gap of 8 yrs then the person who calls reply we will check and let you know. but no calls after that. What can I do to get a job need your suggestion. Is age also count? I am in mid 40s.

Sir i want to ask that is automation engineer is a good career nowadays and what is the salary difference between fresher automation engineer and experienced one.

    • @RaghavPal
      @RaghavPal  3 года назад +2

Hi Tarun, Thanks for your ques
Now let me take your ques in 2 parts I.e.
      1. Is Automation Engineer good career today
      2. Salary differences between Fresher and Experienced Automation Engineer
Automation engineer is a very good career and it has lots of scope in future. If you see in general we are moving towards automation in any field you can see.
Talk about banks, today most of the traditional banking ways and processes are automated, you can think about ATM, or online baking etc
If you see Traffic Signals, the manual ways of a person standing and controlling traffic is changed by using automated traffic lights
We are moving towards self driving cars, AI, machine learning
So you can predict the future will be more Automation, and we will need people skilled in this area.If you speak specifically on QA and Testing space, You will find companies trying to bring more and more automation for the repeated tasks to save time & effort
And I always look at automation in this way that,
We should use automation where necessary, like some repetitive tasks, something that can be delegated to machines and Humans should focus on more analytical parts of the job that cannot be done by machines
      Now your 2nd ques
Salary differences between Fresher and Experienced Automation Engineer
When you start as a fresher, whether you go in Automation or Dev, you will be starting with basic salary structure which will be more or less same for all these related fields of software and testing,
Now as you grow, you will get some skills & exp and after a few yrs it will be your skills and exp that will decide the salary.
Now if I talk about year on year appraisal, you can expect your salary to increase from single digit to 10, 15, 20. % is some cases.
But then there is another scenario.
For e.g. you have worked for 3 yrs in test automation and now you have acquired some really good skills needed in the market, Now with that you will have lots of options, You can try for better opportunities within or outside your organisation and may get better hikes.
So it will all depend on your skills and needs of the market
      I hope this helped you.
      Raghav

Hi Saibhavani, Yes, if you create a good skill set with tools and skills relevant and in-demand, you can get a job as software tester. I will suggest that you see some job descriptions and filter out some 3 or 4 most common skills or tools required and learn accordingly. Also learn to implement, i.e. do practical hands-on, take up some personal projects to get real time experience

Hiii bro, present I am facing interviews for an selenium automation, can you tell me how to face manager round, what questions can I expect from manager.🤝

    • @RaghavPal
      @RaghavPal  3 года назад +4

Hi Jagadeesh, Good question, I will definitely feature this in AskRaghav episode. I am assuming when you say manager round, you are referring to the non-technical part of the interview. Now during these phases a candidate is checked on general things & behaviour to see how fit he will be in the organisation, team and the company's culture.
For e.g. a person having great technical skills but no people skills or not having a good and +ve attitude may not be a good fit to work in teams.
So in this phase of the interview take care of following things
      1. Talk politely, take pauses, keep your volume and tone medium, not too low not too high
      2. If asked or whenever you find the right opportunity discuss about your past exp on how you worked in teams, how you helped your team mates. How you handled team projects
      3. Keep the general questions ready, I talked about it in this video like
      - Tell me a little about yourself
      - About your work, project, past, experience
      4. Whenever asked about your last or earlier companies, always be +ve, don't say anything bad about your earlier jobs or places
      5. When asked how do you see yourself in future, 5 yrs from now - Say I look myself handling imp projects, helping my teams grow, I see myself more skilled and exp in my domain,
      6. Now there can be some tricky questions like do you like Java or Python OR do you prefer Selenium over some xyz tool. Now here, in case you have worked with one of the options more than the other you can safely say that, I have worked more with Java and I really like it but as of now, did not get many opportunities to work with Python, but will love to have options to work on it in future.
If you have worked with both or all options again you can say that I was fortunate to have worked with both of these..., Although it will be difficult to choose one among them, Still if I have to I will go with xyz as I have worked more on this.
Basically you should not just criticise any tool or tech
      Hope this helps.
Now there can be many managerial or general questions in a interview, I will plan to create a separate session for them.
