Indian attire. Just say indian. I really don't see the need to emphasize on the location the attire is from. It's really embarrassing how unite we are. It's a joke at this point. No hard feeling you probably didn't think about that either. Just chinese people don't say Guang Dong attire or Shang Hai attire that's why China is the way it is tdy.

Also notice at 01:33 when it's announced that a policeman has come and Bulbbul starts to get up to receive him as the head of the family now, Satya immediately assumes charge and gets up instead. That there is a powerful scene in itself which is very telling of the patriarchal nature of our society where women are never allowed to take the lead !

Tripti Dimri's facial expressions are superb in the film, from the innocence to the pain to the savage smile, she has spoken so much only with her body language and style. In this savage avatar, she just knows it all, and that transformation, rather that arc of the character reminds us of that hidden power in all of us, that has helped us grow over time. The entire cast is brilliant, not a single weak performance. Truly, a Clean Slate film!!!!

Since this is a feminist film, in my opinion, the 3 men were the embodiment of the 3 main kinds of men we see in real life:
    1. The one who treats a woman nicely as long as she fulfills his ego and his projection of ideal woman. (Indraneel)
    2. The one who calls Bulbbul "Gudiya" ie considers women (sex) dolls and has his way with them (Mahinder)
    3. The superficial good that women fall for but who also ends up blaming the woman for the mishaps that happen to her (Satya)
And then the one who believes her (Sudip, also a feminist) who receives backlash from the other men (called a simp, suspected of taking advantage etc)
Binodini is an excellent portrayal of women crushed under patriarchy who are trained to act a particular way by similar women. (Like our grandmothers or mothers)
Loved the film. It's not about the story, it's about the metaphorical depiction for me. Cheers. :))

If this were Sohini the entire composition would be in the higher pitches. And when we sing them the Tanpura's always tuned to Ni.

The lack of male gaze in this film was so refreshing. Too often, women's writing is reframed as masculine writing, just by a woman. The subtle patriarchy of Satya and the obvious brutality of Mahendra and Thakur Babu, the power dynamic between Binodini and Bulbbul, the codes of silence that rule the rajbari - this movie rang with emotional truth and real insight. Bulbbul is the muse of the movie, not its object.

@Youth India If you go by the definition of Alpha- Dominant , attractive, successful, we have both males and females of this type ( in our species at least). Sometimes, 'alphas' can come across as bullies and over-confident. So, no, not all people are attracted to alphas. Plus, we don't need this survival instinct because we know how to negotiate with other humans unlike other animals who have to fight for their territory.

Such an eloquent example of how prejudice can manifest in the form of "care." Satya just assumes he's being the hero/gentleman when he seizes authority over the household. Binodini says she's concerned that Bulbbul looks "exhausted," when a lot of us viewers would say she looks relaxed and fabulous. I hope this film is available over here in Germany.

So one thing about the shoes, while the shoes are supposed to keep her feet from twisting around, it also reminded me of when as kids we studied Rabindranath Thakur's family dynamics. It was mentioned in those days for women, particularly Bengali noble women, wearing shoes were seen as "bibiyani" - trying to be a memsahib/white. Because while in reality white women didn't really have it good in Victorian England, the ones that could travel to India were the more educated or even privileged white women with some degree of freedom. Wearing shoes for women were seen as trying to be free, which obviously was interpreted as a bad thing as such women would be harder to control. The Thakur family had tried to break that a few times.
Bulbbul as we see doesn't wear shoes initially although her more "sophisticated" husband tries to get her to. But later she does and on her own too, symbolising she has changed.

Rabindranath Tagore was youngest among his 14 siblings, his elder brother Jyotridrinath Tagore married a girl Kadambri Devi who was younger than her husband, she was 10 year old girl and nearly same age as Rabindranath Tagore. They were best friends since childhood and husband of Kadambari Devi arranged for her to be well educated but after 4 months of marriage of Rabindranath Tagore, Kadambri Devi committed suicide at age 26 for reason never revealed by Tagore family. Rabindranath Tagore was really heartbroken and wrote many songs and poem in her memory.

I love how ( tripti)bulbbul was portraying innocent character with love n helplessness in her eyes...
And after the tragedy all her innocence was gone she was pure evil with beautiful smile with revenge in her eyes
This is talent I m so amazed by her acting ❤ loved n horrified by this movie at the same time
