Here are the basic steps to painting clouds in the sky for landscapes.
Step 1: Paint sky blue in a gradient
Step 2: Paint clouds using the brushes and strokes seen in the video.
Step 3: Paint your landscape how you wish.
Here are the painting tips for painting clouds.
Tip #1 - Use the right brush for the clouds. In this video, I share what brushes I use for each type of cloud I paint.
Tip #2 - Leaving white streaks in your blue sky looks like clouds in the distance.
Tip #3 - Play with different colors in your skies to get a different feel before you add in your clouds.

I'm glad it helped.
This is what I was looking for!
Great!
Awesome. looks good.
Glad you enjoyed this painting tutorial.
that's awesome. clouds stress me out so this really helps. I was wondering, do you generally use a pretty dry brush for the clouds?
It depends on the cloud. I use a dry brush if I dont want to blend with the underneath layers. I blend with a wet brush. So puffy clouds with multi colors I use a wet brush. Hope that helps.
Thank you for this!!!!
You're so welcome!
That was AMAZING 😍

I'm glad you enjoyed. 😊 welcome.
Wow
Thanks
I've seen tons of cloud tutorial videos and couldn't grasp the process. I'd saved your video and then I lost the link. I could finally draw decent looking clouds. Thank you so much, your teaching process is super easy to catch and follow. Also, would you please talk about light source while drawing clouds? I'm in a bit of perplexity regarding that.
Glad it helped! I can talk about the light source in a future tutorial. Thanks for the suggestion.
Are you washing, wiping, or changing your brush during the color changes? What blue are you using, watching in parts? Love this so helpful, thank you very much. Do you do a painting all in one sitting or are you letting it dry between steps?
I paint in one sitting. Acrylics dry fast so I can layer easily. When I want the colors to mix, I don't wash my brush. If I'm painting over dry canvas and I want the colors to be seen underneath I use more water. In some of the clouds I'm suing a dry brush technique. There are so many different techniques I'm using here that I explain in my art lessons: www.patreon.com/createfulart

Wow great 👌👌👌👌👍💙💙💙

Hello love the channel. I have recently picked back up the brushes after many years of not painting. Yesterday I tried my hand with wet on wet technique using oils. Did not go as smooth as I would have hoped. I usually work with acrylics.
Wet on wet with oils is great for blending but not so great for layering. You can get a fast dry medium to help with that - amzn.to/3Hz47xo
Or you can get the look of oils with acrylics by using heavy body acrylics.
very, very beautiful
I love love this tutorial video. I understand the concept is to get out in nature and paint, but I prefer when you teach different things like this in this format. Could you also show when you use water or blot brushes? I’m new. I’ve been looking through your videos and I’m looking for one on different types of trees, reflections in water, hills/mountains, rivers. Mostly trees. Maybe a link if you already have one?
I'm glad you said this. I have a tree tutorial similar coming soon! Yes, I'll explain more on what I'm doing with my brush.
How are you keeping your canvas wet after the initial sky background?
I don't keep it wet. I'm painting over a dry background. Hope that helps.
Very very good ...
very, very beautiful
My clouds look like something that doesn't exits 😬😬😅😅😅 this is helping a lot! 😃
Clouds were hard for me at first too. I'm glad this video helps you.
Is you background (sky) completely dry when you add the clouds?
Yes
bravo
Glad you enjoyed this lesson
Amazing tutorial!
But it's interesting that you dip in acrylic first then dip in water. I usually wet my brush first before dipping in acrylic. Why do you prefer your way?
I don't want to add water to the acrylics on my palette. This would alter all the paint. So I dip first in acrylic and then add water. 😊
@@Createfulart Aaaah that makes sense. I don't really have water on my brush though, it's just wet/damp brush. But I'll try your method next time 😊
I’ve been really needing to improve painting of my skies with clouds. However, your videos almost made the clouds look unfinished. The clouds I see most in Wyoming are the last painting you did. It seemed to me that, especially the big cloud on the right upper half was not complete. The cloud looked choppy. The clouds I see are more soft and the white blends more into the gray and sky. How would you accomplish that technique?
Yes, my style isn't as realistic as a photo. To achieve a more realistic look you spend more time copying what you see as far as texture, color, and values. It just requires more time working on the details. It's essentially practicing your ability to copy what you see.
Thank you for not helping!
@@lorendaaltenbern4988 I can only help you in a message with words. If you want more help enjoy my lessons at createfulart.com
Brilliant..thank you for great lesson..can i ask...
do you ever use retarder or slow dry medium..to help blending?? Thankyou 😁
Of course you can ask. I don't use any slow drying medium. My palette keeps my paints wet and I make sure if I'm blending that I do it right away. I also use a glazing technique to blend with dry underneath layers. Have fun painting!
@@Createfulart do you have a link for the wash brush please.
Yes, here is my wash brush: amzn.to/2F2E6H1

Liverhisvudeo. Thank you, it was very helpful
I'm glad this helped you!
in watercolor
Watercolor is much different. You must protect the white of your paper not paint white like with acrylics. I recommend Jenna Rainey and Watercolor Misfit for watercolor tutorials.
Could u plz do a painting tutorial on pink clouds? The tik tok famous pink clouds u know..
I have some pink clouds you could try here: ruclips.net/video/WL3goL0-9F4/видео.html
Did you take art classes? Just curious
I have taken art classes and learned from several artists. I believe there is no such thing as a self taught artist as most people learn from others in some form. I mostly learned to make art from studying artists works and through books.
now i know why my cloud look weird 😅
Great! Have fun painting.
Secure your canvas next time. Thank you.
Thanks for the suggestion. I like the freedom of being able to turn or position my canvas. A little movement doesn't bother me.
I don't like how they turned out. I'll learn from someone else thank you.
I'm sorry they didn't turn out. I wasn't happy with my first cloud paintings either. But with practice they got better. Wish you the best. 💖
Thank you!!!!
