Cox is in a bad spot because we play 3 safeties much of the time. He's a coverage guy who needed to get better at run support. I don't think it's an indictment on his skills, he's just not the kind of linebacker for this scheme. I like the kid and hopefully he gets better at the run.
Also, at the 4:55 mark, it's so nice to have a DT that eats up blockers like Hankins did on that play. We have needed that for a long time.

This was before Micah was Micah, we ain’t know what he was yet, but he was banging helmets in practice and Cox didn’t like it, I think that’s what they see in him. Although in his opportunities he played really well, I think they see Cox the same way they seen Amari Cooper, except Amari Cooper was a bonafide NFL #1 WR with years of pro bowl production. Answer to your question....
Jabril Cox is the Connor Williams of the LB position group.
He does a lot of things well, ( technically ). But he's not a very physically punishing football player.. at the end of the day The More Physical Team is usually going to Win the game
The Cowboys are making a concerted effort to Play a much more physical brand of Football... Players like Connor Williams, Leighton Vander Esh, Jaylon Smith, Jabril Cox, Jordan Lewis, Everson Griffin, Robert Quinn, Dontari Poe, Xavier Woods, Antuan Woods, Amari Cooper, Anthony Brown, Luke Gifford, and many others... Are just not built for a physical play style...
Players like Jay Ratliff, Dez Bryant, Donovan Wilson, Ezekiel Elliott, Zack Martin, Micah Parsons, Erik Williams, Michael Irvin, Ed Too Tall Jones, Randy White, Larry Cole, Emmitt Smith, Larry Allen, James Washington, Ken Norton Jr, Cliff Harris, Rayfield Wright, Jethro Pugh, Roger Staubach, Dak Prescott, Butch Johnson, Drew Pearson, Roy Williams ( SS ), Leonard Davis, Darren Woodson. Harvey Martin. Nate Newton.
These players brought a element of toughness, intimidation or fear to the game that skill cannot overcome.

He dealt with an injury during training camp if I recall, which may have hindered him a bit this season. But this week I don't believe he was on the injury report, although he was inactive. Also, Damone Clark is a way better draft prospect if you disregard his injury, and I think that impacts this decision as well. DQ is always talking about the importance of "on the job" training for young guys. I like Jabril Cox and think he'll develop into solid depth and great ST guy at the very least (which is good for a 4th rounder). But this organization probably looks at Damone Clark as a solid 2nd round pick they got for cheap because their own medical staff estimated a way longer recovery timeline (pre draft, then after he was on our team he's magically ready to go in october lol). The dude has all the athletic traits to be a top tier LB and really showed up in a big game against Bama. I imagine all else being equal they value getting him reps over Jabril Cox.

Cox isn't better this year than any LB that is playing regular snaps on defense or special teams. People need to face that fact. That is why he isn't playing. Everyone made Cox out to be a future hall of famer last year. The coaches know what is best and who is better and clearly NFL coaches for the Cowboys who know more than any fan/media/youtuber on the planet think LVE is the best LB on the team not names Parsons, they also think Clark is better than Cox, they also think Gifford is better than Cox. If he were better than Gifford on special teams he would be playing and to be fair if he were he might also be getting defensive snaps in certain packages. I love how everyone threw dirt on Gifford this spring and summer but guess what he made the team and the hobo from Liberty didn't even make the practice squad just like I said he would. Every team needs a guy like Gifford who is a special teams ace and can give some decent snaps on defense in a pinch. Don't get me wrong Gifford isn't the answer at LB and next year Cox could possibly pass him up on special teams and make the game day roster then get a bunch of snaps at LB on different packages or even become a starter. If he was better this year he would be playing there is no agenda or question about it. Clark did a pretty good job and will be a very good backup once Barr returns and takes his spot back and he will there is absolutely no question about it. Clark is clearly in the top 4 best LB's - Parsons, LVE, Barr, and then Clark. He will replace Barr next year though if he stays healthy. It looks to me like LVE is the MIKE and Barr is the SAM possibly vice versa in most packages and they are using Kearse/Wilson as the WILL some of the time. Soooo.... it could be that LB's aren't the people who are stopping Cox's progress it could be Kearse and Wilson. I think they should keep doing what they are doing on defense though because they have been very stingy about giving up points overall this year and no changes should be made unless it is due to injury.

I think it’s just pretty clear that Cox isn’t ready to play. They feel confident in Damone Clark. Simple as that. Imo they’d play Gifford over Cox as well.

Damone Clark is more violent and hard-charging than #14. Jabril Cox, who i liked as a draft pick bargain, is not hustling to the action & i see him tipping alot of the time assisting tackles. Clark's style of play is a good comparison to the way Ryan Shazier went after ball carriers before his serious back injury left him lame, for life. Ironically he had the same spinal fusion surgery as Clark did and in hopes of making a full recovery of playing high level football again. Shazier's procedure was a success for him to walk upright but isn't going to play with a degenerative backbone condition. Damone Clark on the other hand looks like the surgery was 100% optimal for the possibility of being as dominant for Dallas as he was as a standout for LSU. Hopefully he's another hidden gem like drafting a hurt Jaylon Smith from Notre Dame the same year of a major catastrophic injury & experimental arthroscopic surgery. Cross your fingers, Cowboys fans.

LVE is barely average to me. He misses a lot of plays and he's not aggressive what so ever

LVE has not been good all season! Avoiding contact while taking bad angles! To me officially a big ok Bust!Terrible! The weak link of the defense!
