In the story, the swamp strider actually hovers above the surface of the swamp and never touches it. Also it is described to be charging at Vultraz at one point. I dunno about you, but I can't imagine this thing moving fast.
The reason the set comes with only 9 balls is because you need to leave one of the top extensions one short, so that the rapid firing function works better. Have equal amount in both, and they prevent each other from falling down to the shooter.
on top of this, the extensions are inika zamor launcher containers which are asymmetrical and one edge is lower than the other since the extensions are offset to the side, that means that on one of the sides the lower edge is just gonna face down and the tenth ball is just going to fall out of it 9 truly is the magic number
Imo what made Mazeka stand out next to Nuparu would be the existense of Vultraz. While Nuparu simply worked to protect his fellow Matoran from the rather amoral Bohrok, Mazeka had a genuine archnemesis in the form of the murderous Vultraz, a former friend who had killed their mentor in cold blood for selfish gains. The fact that they were both "mere" Matoran is what makes it even more special.
Something awesome about this set was that you cold literally attach it to something at a nearly full vertical slope while it was sideways simply because it could grip. Surely I wasn’t the only one having that thing hang halfway off a dresser, right?
i've had this set for years, but until you referred to it as a "giant rail gun" , i had never realized it looks a lot like the mass driver cannon from the halo reach campaign, but on legs.
Mazeka is a phenomenal set. It has a very consistent colour scheme, and while Mazeka is basically another Av-Matoran, I don’t own any so I don’t see Mazeka as a downside to the set. The Swamp Strider is incredible and the modified Midak skyblaster with its extensions is very cool. It has a unique design and overall it functions really well and is definitely one of my favourite vehicle sets.
Honestly Mazeka did such crazy shit during his serials I get a feel he could have carried the entire '08 arc just with his crazy parkour moves. His alternate universe shenanigans aren't bad, but I really wish we could've seen a Matoran kick a Makuta's ass.

Good review, but I feel that the open red axels on the legs can be excused. Looking at real-life vehicles the red axels could be looked at as warning lights, much like construction and some military vehicles have.
