Skylanders is actually surprisingly better about that than most. Pretty sure at least Hex counted as a necromancer, and she's as heroic as anyone in the Life element.
The issue in d and d at least is that the soul is the domain of the gods. Necromancers just turn the body into a puppet but can't do anything to return will or consciousness Clerics just fix the body and ask God to pick up your soul from the afterlife and stuff it back in

@@lordgod9958You forgot something really fun. Necromancers can ALSO fix the body and put the soul back, since they can learn some of the same revival spells the cleric has. The best part is the revival spells that the cleric uses, are from the school of Necromancy! Although neither can do a completely resurrection if the soul just doesn’t want to come, or is being trapped or held by someone unwilling to allow it.
@@Max_Pendragon Indeed. Necromancy is hard, revival is harder still. Clerics don't so much do necromancy as they ask the gods to do it for them. This makes it a lot easier and is why they can do difficult magic like healing and revival so well when Arcane casters struggle. A wizard especially has to actually know what they are doing. Adding onto that Wizards are held back by the god of magic instead of being helped. So there are definitely magics that a Cleric could possess that a wizard does not have access to. The Clerics gods allow everything personally while the wizard knowing how to do it themselves would be dangerous in the eyes of said god.
If I recall, all healing spells in 2nd edition DnD were necromantic when cast by a wizard before healing was moved to conjuration as if "summoning" positive energy was different from messing with life and death. It wasn't a big issue in 2nd edition because Cleric spells were sorted by "Sphere" and Wizard spells were by "School" but it was an issue in 3rd edition because all the cleric spells were folded into schools as well and they didn't want every healer to be a necromancer. Anyhow old DnD mechanics rant.
I once in D&D played a necromancer monk who used “hands of healing” to just slap people back to life like the System of a Down “Wake Up” meme. Necromancers are inherently amusing, even if they don’t slap cadavers halfway across a room to bring them back from the dead.
You know, the school of necromancy also gets all the cool healing spells like Spare the Dying and True Resurrection. So maybe he won't come back as an undead but completely healed. Maybe. It's not a guarantee with dem spooky magic Bois.
Our necromancer a master of both life and death magic but also scary looking as heck "oh I'm just gonna cast a cure wounds on you but I'm sorry those arrows are going to hurt coming out"
