      @loke6664 Год назад

Between PCs I totally agree with you. For NPCs though, no not really. NPCs do a lot of things, they try to murder you, help you, steal from you, flirt with you... They are the villains, your henchmens, your spouse, everyone in the world and that a single NPC acts in a specific way would make you assume that is the DMs feelings towards you is rather strange to me.
Okay, if all female NPCs flirt with you in the same way that might be some kind of warning sign that it is time to switch DM but I don't think that is a common problem.
Romance is clearly a part of the fantasy genre, there are romance in almost all fantasy books and movies so it is more something to be expected then something rare and odd. Not all characters are involved in that of course, either in media or in roleplaying but it is still part of the genre and if it isn't for you, then just say your character isn't interested.
Romance between PCs can be a bit awkward at time, if you are dating one player and your ex is in the group you probably shouldn't have your character flirt with your ex and if you want to flirt with someone else then your partner flirt with an NPC (but maybe check with your partner if they are comfortable with that first).

Is physical fighting okay or okay with prior player communication?
      Is manipulation okay?
      Can you keep secrets?
      Can you flirt/romance each other?
There are loads of things people feel uncomfortable with OR people can't differentiate between. No shame in it. As long as you make a safe space for all.
Most every chronicle that does not end because of sheduling problems ends because of someone being unhappy and escalating it instead of speaking up honestly.

I know it's easier said than done, but if someone at a game store is trying to blackmail you to do something, tell management. Sometimes the reason that people feel they can do these things is because nobody reports them so they think they can get away with anything. If management won't do anything about it, then don't go to the store anymore. If they won't do anything about customers who are clearly making others uncomfortable, then it's not a good environment to play in.

(The whole party was dying of laughter as I was trying to figure out his health and stats that was about 1/3 of his health) So if she punches him 3 times gets crit for all three XD... welll then....Ouch, Anyway that's just another funny story of our group

I have seen decades long marriages and friendships end...it's just not worth it, so I steer my group away from such things after all there are hundreds of States besides Romance, I try to use the value of Friendships as a replacement and that works out for the most part...I just finished a campaign where a well established group rejoined after years apart to rescue a party member from a Nightmare Realm...it went over well, with no confessions of undying love...to me it's a small price to pay.

With the 1st story, IF the person didn't know the other person was in a Relationship and confessed Affection/Love. That would've been fine and respectable. But, since it was a known Relationship that makes it a bit inappropriate. Sure, even if there is a known relationship then its perfectly fine if someone else is in love with them. HOWEVER, confessing that love or pressuring them it's a problem.
As for the 2nd story that is messed up on so many levels. I can't say much else about this.

Nor do I have a computer to try and play online:(

Story 1: There is a huge difference between character romance and player romance and my example is pretty great! My friend has a couple of friends that wanted to get into D&D and he wanted to run the game and wanted me as a player to help fill out the party and help the new players. The couple have been monogamously married for years with two kids, I'm socially anxious anxious and ace, and from session one my character and the husband's character were flirting. They flirted enough so that when my character got knocked up by changelings, their first thought was it HAD to have been that player's character (mine was knocked out by the changelings so they could walk around as me for a while and do the things). All players at the table knew what was going on and his wife thought our in-game flirt was funny as hell. We're pretty good friends still and have occasional game nights, the kids are adorable and evil, and the puppy definitely has puppy teeth XD

The first story was interesting. My current bf for five years sort of confessed through our first dnd campaign. It was pretty sweet, but because of that, we tried not to include too much of our relationship in the campaign so the other players didn't have to deal with that. Listening to this was also awkward because my name is also Tori so oof.

Fortunately, I've never had any real horror stories in my games, either as DM or player... but I did have this one I'd like to share that might bring a bit of a laugh to some.
My first game ever was on a Westmarch-style discord channel, where I'd randomly rolled for race and class, being spoiled for choice at the time. Thus was born Morgann Solbeard, Hill Dwarf Paladin of Pelor, with his goodwife Soltie and daughter Ephemeral Skye. In the course of numerous adventures with a rotating cast of characters, Morgann and his guild were sent to investigate an unexplored set of ruins. En route, they came across a battlefield, a former skirmish between two opposing armies, but everyone there was petrified. Suitably alert and on edge, the party continued on into the ruins nearby.
There, they discovered it had once been a great city, from which Pelor had originated from before his ascension to godhood. It's custodian and guardian was a medusa with thick reading glasses and a well-dressed librarian aesthetic. To break the ice, Morgann, being the Paladin face of that party, stepped forwards, took a knee, and introduced himself with a kiss to the back of her palm, like any chivalrous knight would.
He rolled a natural 20 on the Persuasion, and accidentally seduced the medusa, who immediately became flustered, noting his marriage ring and muttering how long it had been. Morgann was speechless, the party were looking to him with just the most shit-eating grins, and he never heard the end of it. Indeed, the half-elf Wizard of the party decided to immortalize the moment in painting and put it on display in the library tower of their city. It was amazing.
Then, later, he discovered medusae in that world imprint suitable 'fathers' on their eggs through memory magic... when his illegitimate half-medusa daughter turned up in the city to meet him. xD

Critical Role has several fantastic examples of in game relationships vs real life relationships. All of the players are married, but Sam, Taliesin and Liam’s partners don’t play with them.
Matt must be incredibly secure in his and Marisha’s relationship to be able to watch Liam pull the full High Lord of the Night Court (“We have one hour. Fade to feathers.”) on his wife.
Travis also gets hilariously excited anytime his irl wife Laura’s PC gets any action. He literally jumped out of his chair during the Bathtub scene.

For story #1, i'm hung up on the sentence "introduced me as, her girlfriend"
If this isn't a typo (as it's the only evidence to op's gender i saw), means that the dude didn't get she was truly into WOMEN and no less tried to convince her that she wasn't.

TO BE FAIR, the girlfriend's sexuality is never stated in the thread, all we can really say is she's clearly into women since yk, she's got a girlfriend, it's possible she's bi and he took that to mean he still has a chance despite her being in a happy relationship already, and of course even if she is a lesbian, a lot of men do not respect this and think they can somehow "convert" lesbians, really nasty stuff.

when it comes to flirting in TTRPGs, as a player I have no issues with flirting and having relationships with PCs or NPCs, but as a DM I have a hard no for flirting with my girlfriend's characters. I'll happily flirt with other PCs in front of her and if we're both players I'm happy with our characters getting together, but for whatever reason flirting with her character when I'm the DM feels wrong to me

I did romance my now husband in the game (as just friends at the time). After my marriage broke up for other reasons long in the making, we eventually got closer as friends and then started dating (4 years after that initial campaign). Now we have a two year old and play D&D with my tween. But that didn't happen overnight or break up any relationships.

So recently in campaign that we just barely finished, we had an necklace fireballs with only three beads on it, and we were going up against a young adult white dragon. Though through luck and planning, and stealth we approached the dragon when it was asleep. We were all level 5, but we had a gloom stalker ranger/rouge and due to the fact early on in the campaign we had a wizard who really wanted to cast fire ball we bought a bunch of flour. At the start of the fight with the dragon we had the rouge pore flour around the dragon which caused a series of stealth checks to be rolled to see it the dragon woke up, it didn't, so he got away from the dragon and took cover then I being the one with the necklace of fireball, through only one bead, setting the flour on fire, and the dm ruled that that meant that the fireball instead of just being a normal 8d6 was 10d6 max damage, due to it being asleep though it auto failed its dex save and so took 60 damage, but my dm forgot that I was not wearing the necklace( I hooked it around my belt since I was a Goliat, and said that my neck was to thick), and that it does not need attunement, so next player our fighter uses there item interaction to take it from me and then through a bead, 30 damage, and finally are barbarian on there turn also does the same thing, for 29 damage. 60+30+29 = 119, the dragon only had 112 health due to a low health role, so we asked the DM to add some more health, he adds 50 more health, ranger makes a shot, 14 damage, I slip on the ice trying to get close, fighter turn doesn't slip on ice, nat twenty and he had the plus 1 sword first hit 24, not max but good, damage second attack 17 to hit 13 damage, dragon dead again, and still has not had a turn do to it's low initiative role. We just let it stay dead this time.

I know a girl who can’t go to a local game store because of a guy who is always there. She saw him like a second dad, but he apparently didn’t: when he was getting divorced, he tried getting her to sleep with him. On top of that, he knew her gf, and the three of them had even hung out together multiple times.
Moral of the story: some people suck, and more importantly, don’t be a creep

  • @Sabotender

from my experience, flirting in character quickly becomes rather cheesy.. like bad pickup lines, over the top winking and inuendo, and ending with a "aaand.. fade to black"
That being said, one of my closest friends (we are both straight males) ended up flirting with one of my NPCs, and it had a hilarious turn. He played a Tiefling Rogue, and the NPC was an Aasimar Rogue, the flirting started as insults, and slowly grew to something that was a tiny bit awkward between us as we looked at eachother (irl) with sparkling eyes.. all in all it ended up laughing our butts off (we had known each other for 10+ years when this happened).
PS. later in the campaign he met that same NPC again, except by this point the party had time travelled a little and he now had a daughter who was slightly older than him. She was pissed that he abandoned them, and his character suddenly went from being the flirty bard/rogue type to becoming the overprotective dad trying to make up for missing 20+ years of his daughter's life. He kept buying her dolls and toys because his character couldnt wrap his head around the time travel age difference :P

I’ve never caught feelings for another player Out of Game before (probably helped by only playing online, and having a romantic partner). In game, I had one table joke about it and I was both new and naive, and dumb enough to think we should when in fact there was no chemistry for the characters, lol. So I still cringe a bit because of that. However, I might have started my first official In Character romance (depending on how some dates go, we just had the first in our recent session) after our druid asked my orc fighter/rogue out. The dynamic is there, and I’m excited to see how it goes. But this would absolutely be a strictly In Character thing since not only am I with someone, but the druid is also happily married (they talk about their spouse and their dogs all the time and THEY ARE JUST THE CUTEST FAMILY, AAA! Our play group would die for our druid and their family).

Story #1: I've had so many characters romances with other characters that hasn't turned into anything else. In fact, my husband knows all of them, and one of them is even happily married himself. It's where you separate between fact and fiction in your head. Remind yourself that it's just a character being played. I even had a character ask another character if he was flirting with her cause she wasn't sure.
All of it is written in character though, as we usually gather at the table for combats and do the rp on the side.
Drama Story #2: I don't usually play my opposite sex either. I prefer to be my own gender, specifically a beautiful Elven woman of some sort. That said, when it comes to say, video games, I have no issues with playing a male led game (say the older Assassins Creed) but if given my choice about gender, I'll always choose a girl.

Story 1: word of advice to any girls, is a guy confesses to you, it is probably best to not try and be friends after that.
This is for a couple reasons, so guys will try to put a wedge in your relationship as they may see that as the only reason you won't be with them.
The second is the mental health if the boy, often guys will not want to ruin the friendship as the feelings are still there and any level of relationship is better than none in their mind. But this can cause a lot of insecurities and negative rumination. Even if the guy says they want to still be friends it's probably not in their best interest.

When I was in highschool I made some friends who played DnD, they invited me to their table and I spent some session laughing with them. The DM, who was one year younger than me, and myself were always talking during bus travels, joking and laughing. I know his feelings were starting to change when I told him this exact sentence 'I know you are playing dumb with people and make a joke of yourself but deep down I know you're not'. He had 'that' look, not quite lovestruck, but like his facade just fell down and felt... 'seen'. A few seesions in and he kinda lead my character to meet with her disapeared parents when the party was being decimated, losing a huge battle. We were going to die, but we were saved by several Npcs from your different backstories. And when his turn playing his own character came, he expressed that his 'character' was in love with me. His and mine didn't really talk that much, technically speaking there was no reason why... unless he really had feelings for me. Which was really confusing for me, to come out like that in front of his friends under the covert of our campain, never talked about it again after. He was absolutely terrified of my answer I think, and this was very offputting for me, I wasn't 'the girl people want to date', just a huge weirdo who liked anime and videogames, talk to loud and too much, and well, apparently I was a huge dumbass cause several guys I had befriended did ask me in fact. Always felt a bit betrayed because I really liked them as a friend, and I really didn't want to hurt them because of that. It was very strange and very confusing.
