- Dance Dance Revolution And Guitar Hero are renowned as the most recognized rhythm games of all time, and both have also had their fair share of extreme competition. One person decided he wanted to become the best in the world at both of these games, and not only would he fulfill those desires, he would go the extra step to cement himself as the most decorated rhythm game player to date.
Massive thanks to Chris for checking the video out for me beforehand and Devon for checking some of it out too.

Loved watching this! I’m truly honored! Thanks for all the hard work you put into this :)
Ay, the comment we (at least I was) were waiting for
yoo the legend himself
The man, the myth, the legend!
I was glued to the screen.👀
yo i was wating for you to comment lol
The fact that this video is nearly 2 hours long is just a testament to how much of a legend this guy really is.
oh hey an actual content creator thats verified
God wait until you find out about Chris Chan.
His ability to master just about any rhythm game and playing style in a short amount of time is what makes him so amazing. He's like the Bruce Lee of rhythm games lol
Man, He is a true GOAT and he's still like a prodigy, in the sense of how unusually quickly he accomplishes goals. Only rhythm game I played was Parappa the Rappa, but this video a cool story to watch. People like Chris4life could probably thrive in a lot of areas. But, video games need heroes, too.
Been looking up to Chris for awhile now, and, even though I quit DDR years ago, he still continues to be a source of inspiration to push yourself beyond what you may perceive to be your limits and shatter those preconceptions, and I love watching him continue to reach new bounds with his recent era MFC World Record scores - great video and keep it up, Chris!
The second I saw the TV and door my mind immediately shot the the guinness world record vid. I remember watching that when I was a kid and being stunned that it was possible. That video was probably what catapulted me into the world of rhythm games, and I've never turned back, now having spent hundreds of hours playing as well as them now being one of my special interests. Thank you so much for this absolutely phenomenal video. I can't wait to see who's next
there is a backstory to BMR's A Edit: this was when the Stepmania scene was first dividing between keyboard and pad playstyles, and BMR had made his songs with the intention of being played on pad. BMR himself was excellent on pad at the time, so most people thought e.g. his A chart was made for keyboard. I spent my utmost trying to share Chris's score on BMR's A across my website and on the internet in general, such as ebaumsworld, so that (1) Chris would receive due credit for these incredible accomplishments and (2) the concept of a keyboard chart would be more clearly defined, since many then assumed BMR's "A" *was* a keyboard chart. this is of course absurd to even entertain now, but at the time this was a real debate that players of say flashflashrevolution had to face in a very annoying and repetitive way. not only was Chris an incredible player, his skill helped break boundaries which in a very indirect turn of events helped foster an era of user-created Stepmania content that I think is still, to this day, some of the best we've had. to put this in a different way -- I regret a lot of decisions I've made in this subculture, but I still remember promoting the crap out of Chris's content and I'm so glad I did, no one is more deserving.
Excellent video! Chris’ recent 19 scores are now worth adding and would be awesome additions.
Damn! Someone made a whole ass DDR documentary in 2021! Let's GO!
I know nothing about DDR and very little about rythm games in general and watched the whole thing
I didn't think I'd sit through a 1 hour 45 minute documentary in the domain of games I've never played, but here I am. I'm impressed with Chris as a rhythm game genius as well as Etienne's ability to make such engaging videos. Feeling inspired. Thank you both
I remember waiting in line behind a guy at a SDVX cabinet at Magfest in 2019. I knew he looked familiar, then I saw people coming up and shaking his hand and I realized it was Chris lol. He actually asked me to keep his place in line when he went to fetch a stool for the cabinet, as a tall guy myself I appreciated it very much
The DEGRS PFC and 14/15 folder MFCs were all earth-shattering accomplishments at the time, and it's kind of funny to see them reduced to footnotes in the overall story. I can't complain given how long the video is, and to be fair I think eliding some of those details is basically the only way to convey to outsiders how jaw-dropping the 16 folder MFC and 1:43:03 were by comparison.
Amazing video overall, really fun trip down memory lane :)
I know nothing about rhythm games, watched the whole thing and was incredibly inspired Chris is a god, idk how people's feet and mind are so fast
jesus, this brought back memories…i was able to clear that BMC A edit on Stepmania back in the day…though i could never imagine doing it with anything but my fingers 😂
This is the greatest rhythm game video/documentary ever released. Thank you Etienne
The GOAT, Chris Chike
I remember when he fc’d ttfaf. I knew from there this kid would be something great! Congrats on all your success!
i took one look at the vid length and knew i was in for a full length movie ^_^
I love these videos. I'd love to see a video about ekoro because he seems like a very interesting player for rhythm games.
this is gonna be a fun one
Oh hello
Gotta say too he now has an SDVX arc going on that’s insane in itself
4:40 POV: You're my upstairs neighbor on any given Sunday at 6 am
Dude made some ballin song packs for itg/stepmania
I have no clue if you will see this Etienne, but thank you, with your videos, you helped me explore other rhythm games, and got me into Etterna, and now I love it :)) thank you!
like a different kind of world record progression
I was waiting this rhythm game anomalies!
Nice vid! Chris is a god and Im excited to see a rematch against Fefemz in KAC :)

he's a legend
Niceeeee
legendary
The day Chris FC'd TTFAF was the day I graduated High School and I was far more hyped seeing the FC than getting my diploma. I was so invested in seeing the FC happen and when it did I was so beyond hyped! Then seeing the video was just the best thing! I watched all of the DDR/ITG videos he posted because it was just mind blowing how good he was. Chris is simply amazing and it is mind blowing how good he is at rhythm games.
I remember when he FC'd TTFAF back in the day crazy to think now I'm in my early 30's I still play clone hero from time to time using my xplorer guitars. I wish there was newer guitars being made because mine are starting to kind of fall apart / wear down. I don't have the dexterity to FC something like TTFAF on Expert but the game is still fun to play and watch top tier players from time to time.
Dude is litterally the Jordan of DDR. I actually met him once, he seemed rather annoyed at the time so I just left him alone after saying I was a fan. Regardless, this dude inspired me to be a DDR player when I was about to quit. Legend.
Honestly, this man Chris has singlehandedly revitalized my interest in DDR and rhythm games as a whole. Hecking love and respect him as a player. You're right, bro is the GOAT.
Watching him adapt to patterns hes never seen before on Soulless 4 made me realize how much of a god gamer he STILL is.
He’s now in a taco bell commercial
absolute legend
this true? need source
@@theblan1k0ne its unlisted, but look up iamchris4life taco bell. should be the first one posted by the man himself
Always wanted to know this legend history... from the very beginning to nowadays! FLAWLESS!
Oh look it's FNF man. Keep up the good work silly
@@nekolist9775 wtf
@@hammerz1453 ?
@@nekolist9775 idk maybe its because hes like top 20 in osu!m and not just a god in fnf but he is most known now for ff so i guess I understand why you called him fnf man
@@invertedhell2215 I know he is a god at o!m as well. I've followed his content long before FNF was even a thing. I just call him the FNF man because that's what he is known for now days.
Chris is absolutely tearing it up right now, good to see another video on him
i knew the man was a monster but holy shit
That ending montage was the most hype shit ever,
Here's to Chris, the literal greatest of all time.
It would have been good to have seen you put some of Chris scores on SDVX since he also really loves that game a lot to the point that he was disappointed that he couldn't watch the SDVX KAC because it conflicted with the DDR KAC. Regardless this is a tremendously amazing video, I had so much fun watching it and I can't wait for your next "Rhythm Game Anomalies" video.
Yeah especially when last KAC had one of the greatest moments: 666! Everyone pogged real hard when the lanes split!
yep, he's literally one of the best sound voltex players in the U.S. Like a lot of the games Chris doesn't main, he probably has what it takes to be (one of) the best in the world.
Glad to see this legend get a video about him
@daisukidaisy he still needed another one
Please let me excuse myself! I made some timestamps for those who want to watch this masterpiece chapter-wise!

Chris was my biggest inspiration from the beginning and continues to inspire me by proving again and again that absolutely nothing is impossible
Dude you're a legend as well. It's a shame you don't get anywhere near the views as him, your accomplishments are also amazing.
The Break Down compilation was the cherry on top of this crazy good and long documentary of one of the greatest icons in rhythm gaming history.
1 hour, 46 minutes. This upload was long awaited, and we got it. Your effort in videos is amazing!!!!

this has gotta be one of the best rhythm game vids on youtube. really hopes this goes viral cause how much time and effort was put into this. probably gonna put this my car radio on the way to round 1 to get me hyped up for playing on from now lol
It's my first time seeing a ddr video like this. It went viral.
I was 30 minutes in before i realized this was a movie
If there’s anyone who deserves an movies length RUclips video, it’s Chris
1:32 That MySpace profile picture hits so hard. Back in 2013, Chris was my #1 inspiration to get better at DDR along with memorizing charts for stealth play. It's been a ride seeing what he's accomplished over the years and hopefully it doesn't stop anytime soon.
Great vid. Chris really has been something else entirely these past two years.
I don't know if you have the same amount of material for them, but other bemani-related anomalies that come to mind are Dolce (top-level IIDX player for the better part of 15 years), Tatsu (9-time KAC Pop'n Music champion), and FEFEMZ (all-time DDR and PIU great). Each of those three definitely stand out in their games, and Dolce and FEFEMZ have shown top level skill in other games too.
I need a video on DOLCE, IIDX is awesome. FEFEMZ too as he was one of the first to pass PARADOXX D28 on PIU ^~^
yesss, chris is amazing. I remember seeing him in person playing DDR for the first time at a tournament and even though I'd seen videos of him online it was still crazy to me to just see how consistent he is
this video and emplemons hbox video are part of the top 5 videos I've seen on RUclips. No other videos have inspired me to play games that are currently my favorite Thanks for making this.
Ohoho!!! Etienne is back with a banger, time to binge this.
amazing video. chris constantly inspires me to believe nothing in rhythm games is impossible. he’s living proof. dude is the undisputed goat. proud to call him a friend
37:20 I love the fact that they had a "That was easy" button sitting right there on the cab to slap it after success
Thanks for the flashback! I was top 20 GHIII when this was going down, so was closely following scorehero and recognized it for what it was, the absolute nail in the coffin of my aspirations. 100% Chris made me quit Guitar Hero after that dropped. I had been spending hours a night trying to get past 92%. What a legend.
chike it up
Watched it all this video was absolutely legendary
I’m shocked his return to gh via CH wasn’t mentioned. He literally worked his way back up to a ttfaf fc like a prodigy
Fun Fact: I was the First person to join his stream the day of the Re-FC of TTFAF, and funny enough right as I joined knowing how close he was for the last couple of days getting up to that point, had a strong gut-feeling hinting at him finally pulling off said feat. So I immediately let him know it was gonna happen that day, and before I/We all knew it, IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!! That was Truly a Golden day
This is going to be a
Journey, Thanks Etienne.
I will never forgive Konami for suing In the Groove into the ground. :(
The name of the japanese player "O4ma" is pronounced "Oshima" ("shi" is a way to say 4 in japanese) :)
Aaron in Japan or AA Ronin Japan
Chris is basically the Thanos of DDR if not the entire rhythm game community. In one snap, a fraction of 16s and 17s are MFC'd, and someone fc's a song on guitar hero expert. To quote the Hottest Party announcer, "Breaking Records and Taking Names."
This was a great video to watch. His recent 17 and 18 MFCs are insane to watch. I also really appreciate the brief mentions of other bemani games in the latter half of the video.
One small thing to add that probably didn't fit into the video was his brief time getting insanely good at SDVX around quarantine. He even went so far as to get near PUCs at half timing windows on some of the harder songs, it was insane. I think he also very briefly streamed a bit of GH during that time as well. Idk if there were any records though. (probably lol)
If I were to suggest the next player to make a documentary on, I'd choose DOLCE.
When I saw this, I clicked off another hour-long video so I could watch this.
I know it'll be worth it.
Also don't forget his incredibly track record in Sound voltex skill. As it stands he's currently the second best American player behind Vaxei overjoy who only overtook him within the last year after his play slowed down.
vaxei?
@@andr0as it’s not the osu player Vaxei, just someone who uses the same nickname or smthing
@@andr0as vaxei overjoy =/= vaxei. They share a name but both are on top of their respective games.
@@diplogg6782 oh ok
But he’s back. He PUC’d a 20.
Imagine having a 2 hours video made after you, this is some documentary level production. Well deserved and great work.
I remember the ddr/itg community meet ups, tournaments and just getting to experience being a part of it during its golden age. Need more nostalgic videos like this! Thank you
I was on scorehero when GH2 launched in 2006 and remember chris coming out of nowhere and FCing Misirlou before anyone else. Crazy times. The guy is a freak.
EDIT: That's my scorehero forum post shown at 19:17 (and again at 22:34).
I actually watched the full video just each chapter feeling like how is chris gonna make it and just seeing the road of record breaking challenges. Thank you for the video
Is the TFFAF clone hero section in this video?
Truly legend road of Chris, I'm just legit excited to see one day a MFC 19. Meantime, we get to watch him destroy 17s and 18s folder

loved seeing him tear shit up on his cobalt flux.
DDR from the 2000-2010 was a movie and Chris is a legend.
bro got 2 etienne videos. a legend among legends
I started playing in 2002. I modded my playstation to play copies of the japanese versions. I used to play three times a week in the arcade. I bought metal pads on ebay. I was obsessed. I never got insanely good, but I never wanted to. I enjoyed the music more than anything. I enjoyed In the Groove as well, but DDR later became too mainstream, the music started to suck, and home releases just weren’t that good. I still play DDR once in awhile and joke with my friend that we will be playing when we are fifty, which now isn’t that too far off. So many memories I will cherish them forever.
ty ettiene for the content! now im inspired to come back to play stepmania for accuraccy and fun instead of playing extremely hard stuff all day!!!❤❤
Great video, never watched and DDR/GH content but this was a blast to watch
The pointing sistem on the KAC he had to defend his title was pretty bullshit, I'm gald he had a chance to put Fefemz on his place tho
Etienne, the only rhythm game content creator i need
I cannot even begin to imagine how long researching and gathering the clips for this video took, much less the writing and editing. God damn
Chris is just build different idk lol. Also what's song at 1:43:03 ?
