    In amongst the rest of one's guitar journey; it's taken nearly 3 years of coming back and digesting just a phrase at a time, to get this down completely, with some fluency. Well worth it cos it's such a great arrangement.

It's almost Hendrix in places with double stops, sounds like a capo at the 3rd fret, played in D pitch wise. Ry cooder is apparently the godfather of open tunings for keef's open g and open e repertoire.. cheers

    Awesome as always. Lots of building blocks to learn! Thanks.
    My 2¢ on Jimi, maybe this fits with your perception...when I was learning to recognize basic blues moves in solos, a couple times I heard something specific to Jimi, where he'd play one move that ran right into another, *but* the last 2-3 notes of the first were the first 2-3 notes of the second! I thought he was finishing a phrase I heard before, but he was way ahead of that and on to the next. Literally mind-expanding, for me. And no, forgive me, I don't have an example handy YET but I thought it was worth mentioning. I won't rest until I find it...

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  5 лет назад +1

      I love this idea! I think in poetry they call it "enjambment" - where you think one line is over but it's really the beginning of the next. You hear Dylan do it a good bit which makes sense that Hendrix did it with guitar, as he was such a Dylan fan!

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  4 года назад +1

      Some things are easier, and some things get too crowded on a short scale guitar.
      Some chords are actually harder to play because of the small-ness, and playing up high on the neck can be difficult.
      Frets 3 -10 are sooooo comfortable though!

      Jaguars are wicked cool!
      One thing - they're very very bright guitars. They have a unique tone control that sets the default tone high endy.
      Most Fenders have tone knobs that are set at 250K, Jaguars have 1000K - makes them not so great with overdrive pedals.

      Yeah - "Still Bill" is one of my all time faves. His band! So funky, so minimal! The perfect complement to his songs!

    I’d love to hear your take on this with an acoustic, as if if Bill himself took a very cool, minimalist lead break with as much taste as his guitar accompaniment.

    Fucking hell this was so tasty I felt like I had a full meal!! That pre-bend at 0:37 Sounds just like the trippy solo section of ted Nugent stranglehold and it's one of the coolest tones ever to me. Great work on this lesson

    Wait is that hendrix on a mustang?

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  4 года назад

      Sure why not! The pickups are the same as a strat, just with much less sustain and no chirpy/springy sound :-)

    • @ooDriveoo
      @ooDriveoo 4 года назад +1

      @@EricHaugenGuitar Actually it took me until you said it to realize your were not using a strat... nice tone though! Springy sound some times gets on the way but I think taking advantage of those nuisances is what makes Hendrix style so unique. On this song however, those nuisances can really get on the way of mellowness.

    Put him in the oven until his Bill Withers.
