The Den Den Mushi (Transponder Snails) are general societal technology. The snails somehow can telepathically talk to each other, so they've been bred/altered to be used as telecommunication devices. In the manga/anime, they're also a fun running gag, as the snails are typically styled to match their owners, plus the _snail_ talks in the voice of the caller when receiving a call and mimics the facial expressions of the caller too (which is obviously much easier to do in an animation).

Devil fruit powers are limited only to just physical abilities, basically what the devil fruit eaters can do with their body's constitution based on the fruit they ate. But the power that Shanks did in this episode is a different kind of power which they'll clarify in the next seasons, i believe. I'm a bit surprised they made it a point to showcase it here when it's really not that noticeable in the animé. Makes you think that Shanks ate a devil fruit.

I mean 60 eps of the anime in only 8 episodes of the live action is pretty impressive if you ask me, as long as they keep up this pacing with perhaps 16 episodes per season then by season 5 we could get Marineford (If seasons happen yearly and not every 2 years)
@@jonathanpowell7256 For something like one piece, that's far too low, only reason Netflix went for 8 eps is because they weren't sure if it would succeed or not, I think realistically they should go for 12 episodes, cause one piece is a HUGE story and they'd have to cram lots of stuff in again and the pacing would be far too off, remember that the pacing needs to be steady, not too slow and not too fast.
Guys, no pressure. I'm a one piece fan myself. Take your time. Some one piece fans really be enthusiastic coz I know it's really good and fans are really eager to share the experience. But take your time. And when you do. It's gonna be worth it
You half expected Shanks to shoot that ruffian with a finger pistol and then you question how he got out there on that boat hahahaha. These reactions crack up us fans that know the whole story 1000 chapters out no doubt haha.
Those snails are called Den Den Mushi, they're the phones in this world. They come in different 'species' with different uses... The larger ones are regular phones, the small one Nami was using is like a walkie-talkie or something, maybe a cellphone? there's also 'black den den mushi' which are used for hacking in to other peoples' conversations. No Nami is not working with the Marines, I won't spoil who she IS working with.... Just a thing of note; The live action blends a lot of content from the East Blue Saga, to reduce how much time is needed for it all, so when you do get around to the anime, don't be surprised with episodes containing characters that are either only hinted at here, or are entirely absent.... Case in point, the fight Zoro had in Episode 1 with Mr.7 is only barely mentioned in the anime much farther in to the series, and a new Mr.7 is encountered by the group. I think the changes they made work well for story telling purposes. It keeps close enough to the source material, without dragging on as long as the anime tends to do. There will also probably not be ANY fillers thank god. (I love Apis, but her filler episodes had no lasting impact to the story...)
Consuming the devil fruit will make the user unable to swim in still waters (like the sea, river, etc) but they won't be affected by rain or moving waters unless half of their body is immersed. If a devil fruit user dies, their devil fruit will reappear somewhere in the world and can be consumed by another user. Also one piece world are insanely large...like lots of lore and characters...humans in this world have their own skills and abilities besides devil fruit eaters/users...powers/abilities can be attained through trainings
The telephones in One Piece are snails b/c in Japan, phone is "denwa" and snail is "dendenmushi" so as a funny play on words for "den", snail is the cute communication device they use in the story. In the manga, there's no actual miniature shellfish device that Nami uses here but I think it's clever.
Shanks for sure doesn't have a devil fruit. Most devil fruit powers are kinda on the low end of powerful in the One Piece universe. Many of the most powerful people in the show got that way through sheer hard work and a bit of determination. Also Transponder snails are just the way everyone communicates. They are basically their version of phones.
The snails are just a communication device in this world doesn't mean it's to the one other person you saw use the snail phone. Also remember she was already looking to steal if for a reason and they haven't said why she was after it.
6:58 When he said his body was made of Rubber that meant his ENTIRE body was made of rubber, including his internal organs. This is also part of the reason he has a very big appetite because his stomach can expand so much. (He also just has a big appetite)
This is one of the best liv action adaptions of any anime, so this is a good call. I think this is a good gateway into One Piece(to watch anime/mange or just continue with the LA for some ppl) and Oda/Netflix have greenlit season 2. Also there are some changes so I can say if you do watch the anime/manga sometime down the line, you can still watch season 2 of the LA whenever it comes out. It's a new experience for old and new fans. They did a fantastic job taking their time to make it as great as possible with the constraints.
Cant wait to see the look on your faces when you guys get to the end of this live action and realize the anime is 10x better I have no doubt in my mind after you guys start one piece, its gonna be at least in your top 3 of all time. Ron...One Piece is gonna hit you differently most of all
FYI. In One Piece, Devil Fruits are not the only source of superpowers, some people born with superpower, some people can be trained to have superpowers, some people can be trained to have more abilities than normal human (more speed for example)
There's a scene in the manga and anime where Luffy punches that sea monster after he sets out to sea (before ending up in the barrel at the beginning).
I notice a lot of people hating the anime because it has a thousand of episodes and people don't want to waste their time since they have other things to do in their life but to be honest if you are in a 1 or 2 weeks vacation and you are dedicated to watch the one piece anime it is doable if you are dedicated to it. Cause my wife did it while she is on her vacation😅.
There is a lot of power system and method in one piece, since because there's devil fruit user, there would be another power to counter it, and it expand more and more like a weapon race..
Shanks is one of those people in the world that has that ‘presence’. It takes a lot training and will to make a Sea King flee in terror, as well there others with stronger spirits than that.
Devil fruit eaters's kryptonite is Sea water or the ocean itself, you may see some people who has "powers" but can still swim, meaning they're not a devil fruit eater, the "powers" you saw are just pure skills.
I agree with watching the live action and watching the anime afterward. I kinda want to see your reaction to the anime voices, og character designs, the "iconic" OP music, and stuff like that in the perspective of somebody who already watched the live action. I didn't get to have that experience so I'll be routing fot you guys to watch the anime later down the line
The Live action is a little darker than the anime which is rly lighthearted and “goofy” but dives into real dark/deep themes that are shown in the real world
Finally, man. I'm waiting One week for you guys reacted to One Piece L.A. Episode 2. 😂. I get it though, your schedules with other reaction. Can't wait to see your reaction on episode 5 & 6. Hope y'all enjoy it. 👍
Just to let y’all know Shanks doesn’t have a Devil Fruit ability, he used something else which will hopefully be revealed soon in the live action maybe in a season 2 or 3 not sure exactly when but it will be revealed just know Shanks doesn’t have a Devil Fruit Ability
The anime leaves out bits of manga stuff but it informs you with everything of the context to really feel the emotions behind the character's action. They all have their positives and negatives as the anime is slower. The first 8 episodes of the live action covered only 44 episodes.
as you started the live action i recoma'd you keep reacting to the live action we wnat to see you react to the whole show first it will make you go through many emotions if you allow yourself to enjoy the experience, and then you can recat to the anime after you finish the live action, have fun in the one piece journey
I will say its a good start, i have also watched live action first and it made me watch the anime. So dont listen to people just watch it when you are comfortable about starting this.
Devil fruits have wildly different powers, from goofy like Luffys to having abilities such as controlling and becoming a whole element. The range is wild. Cons: cant swim as you lose all power and strength in water and if you eat more than one fruit, you supposedly die as the powers tear you apart from within. It is stated its because of the “devils” fighting.
You wanna know what happens to shanks? He kicks ass all over the grand line and the new world! That’s what happens to shanks…also buggy is the creator of the manga’s favorite character.
I don’t see any reason there can’t be live action fans only if there are both anime only and manga only. I see tons of comments from people saying “you Have to watch the anime.” Nah, you don’t. I love the anime and manga but if you just enjoy the live action that’s fine too.
Shanks is in a completely different boat from the bandit's, so he obviously just grabbed one and rowed to where Luffy and the bandit were. The other boat, if it didn't float away, probably capsized from being knocked around by the sea king.
Ten Girls and ten helpcopters! U Hit Teddy in the Face 😂😂😂 dude you Are so fckn funny! Not gonna lie for me the funniest reactor out here. And Rice’s reaction to it.. Perfect 😂 „you guys Are all bs“ 😂
It's funny how some people are afraid of watching more than 1000 episodes. Consider yourselves lucky because all of them are now available to schedule binge watching. Imagine the dread I felt back in the day that I have to wait weekly. Started watching the anime in 1999 with no idea how long it will gonna be and now where here. 24 years flies so fast.
Watch this, wait a year, watch the anime, then when you're caught up to episode 47, specifically, you can swap back to season 2. Live action 2 is green lit. Oda has confirmed, as far as we know, which it's all theories right now, the One Piece is a tangible thing. Whether it's a bunch of things or one thing, no one knows.
You guys need to react to the anime asap!!! we're at the final 3rd of the series already.... it's such an insane series and why it's ranked as one of the big 3 of all time. Oh and regarding Shanks....he very rarely shows up in the anime but...............when he does, you know shit is going down! He's the king of grand entrances
I don't think the show makes it obvious enough tbh, in the manga Shanks did not only swim to luffy he's literally in the water. So that would make it very clear that whatever power he got it's not from a devil fruit
@16:13 I don't wanna spoil you but to answer your question as to how shanks got to the boat, well for now let's just say the guy has a very strong, agile and literally can swim very fast. hmm that's for now
Excellent reaction as usual! Your decision to watch the anime down the line is honestly the best, and Ill tell you another reason why, other than the reasons you mentioned - because it's over 1000 episodes you have to understand that the pacing is a lot slower than most other shorter animes, so like in Demon Slayer, several plot points may happen in one episode, but for One Piece, 2 plot points might take 4 to 5 episodes. So what does this mean? This means that cause it's so long, youd have to react to 5 to 6 episodes PER video you release, which is a lot of time, and editing I imagine - right now it's just not practical. Stick with the live action, finish that, and of course keep the One Piece anime on your list for a future time when we can all reset our brains and get ready for that journey ps. this is for Ron and Michelle and whoever else reads this, PLEASE for the love of God do not spoil anything for yourselves, and (to the commenters) dont spoil anything for them. I get you're all excited that theyre reacting to this and you want to explain stuff, but in your excitement, ive read some comments where you guys explain too much and give strong hints and literal spoilers. Let's let them discover this world and the stories within on their own and that way we can enjoy the reaction that much more, thanks!
Are people really commenting saying watching the live action will "spoil the anime" that one of the dumbest things I've heard regardsless if a reveals timing.
Yes! I was wondering how Shanks got out all the way out on that boat too! No other reactor I’ve watched ever pointed that out. Maybe the anime/manga fans know
I assumed it was something you have to accept. Like people having green hair, telepathic snails, and people being able to train themselves to point of extreme powers. You don't question it, just accept it and enjoy the ride.
not all strong characters eat devil fruit, devil fruit in one piece is classified into 3 groups, including: paramecia: this devil fruit can offer various strange abilities to anyone who eats it Logia: this logia group can offer to gives various powers to be able to control natural elements to anyone who eats them Zoan: this group of zoan gives its users the ability to change form and the ability to become animals or animal hybrid creatures which have abilities which of course vary and adapt to the form of change in the future It's easy to see whether he eats a devil fruit or not one person one devil fruit Luffy and buggy paramecia type

I mean 60 eps of the anime in only 8 episodes of the live action is pretty impressive if you ask me, as long as they keep up this pacing with perhaps 16 episodes per season then by season 5 we could get Marineford (If seasons happen yearly and not every 2 years)
@@woozyz2769I think it'll stay at 8/9 episodes each season, like Stranger Things.
In the manga, there's no actual miniature shellfish device that Nami uses here but I think it's clever.
u guys are hilarious 😂😂 i love your reactions to my favorite show!!! yall are the vibe
"Is it lunchtime" is a nod to his character loving food.
im just glad the live action can share the One Piece experience with new people, anime or non-anime fans alike
Spoiler now they know that Shanks has no devil fruit 🙄
@@rushonline5884 They should've figured it out from the fact that he swam over to the boat to save Luffy.
@@rushonline5884 he literally picked up luffy lmao he would of been weak even touching the water
@@mikkosimonen they won't pick up I know them
@@rushonline5884😅😂
Cant wait to see the look on your faces when you guys get to the end of this live action and realize the anime is 10x better
I have no doubt in my mind after you guys start one piece, its gonna be at least in your top 3 of all time. Ron...One Piece is gonna hit you differently most of all
FYI. In One Piece, Devil Fruits are not the only source of superpowers, some people born with superpower, some people can be trained to have superpowers, some people can be trained to have more abilities than normal human (more speed for example)
There are movies that you can watch that supervise arcs pretty well. And they have good animation to boot
16:14 that is shanks boat. The villain who took luffy as hostage, his boat was destroyed by sea monster.
Love seeing them crave for answers and shocked about the world.😂
Shanks is one of those people in the world that has that ‘presence’.
Random curiosity: Luffy was confirmed Brazilian according to Oda, author of One Piece
One piece anime is on different level, you will cry your heart out and laugh your ass off.
The reason behind its success is the incredible storyline.
11:45 and that's exactly why it's the perfect power for Luffy 😊
Buggy has such a great actor, he really gave me scary vibes!
^ Love y'all reactions! Hopefully y'all can pick up the anime to compare between the shows.
as you started the live action i recoma'd you keep reacting to the live action we wnat to see you react to the whole show first it will make you go through many emotions if you allow yourself to enjoy the experience, and then you can recat to the anime after you finish the live action, have fun in the one piece journey
Think of the OPLA as an 8hr trailer for the actual series. By far my favorite franchise ever.
Shanks is in a completely different boat from the bandit's, so he obviously just grabbed one and rowed to where Luffy and the bandit were.
The other boat, if it didn't float away, probably capsized from being knocked around by the sea king.
What shanks did to the sea monster is the equivalent of the force in the star wars lore..
i'm dying laughing each time you both misnamed Buggy. XD
5:41 predictions go crazy
omgggg what a cute puppy im crying
The beginning of the real crew ... oh no 🤣🤣
It's funny how some people are afraid of watching more than 1000 episodes. Consider yourselves lucky because all of them are now available to schedule binge watching. Imagine the dread I felt back in the day that I have to wait weekly. Started watching the anime in 1999 with no idea how long it will gonna be and now where here. 24 years flies so fast.
20:34 - Her: I would've taken the sausage.
Him: -__-'
also your asking some questions that us manga fans don't know the answer to 🤣
the sentence "watch the anime" it s a MUST not a should
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣he literally said "I WOULD CHOOSE HIS DEVIL FRUIT RATHER THEN LUFFY'S " NIKA 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
In the anime English dub the joker from Batman animated series is voice of buggy aka Luke skywalker
You guys are one of the non-fans (yet) reaction that i've been waiting to watch..
I'm so glad you guys are liking it.. 👍
Shanks got to the boat by swimming. He hasn't eaten a Devil Fruit.
Stick with the live action, finish that, and of course keep the One Piece anime on your list for a future time when we can all reset our brains and get ready for that journey
ps. this is for Ron and Michelle and whoever else reads this, PLEASE for the love of God do not spoil anything for yourselves, and (to the commenters) dont spoil anything for them. I get you're all excited that theyre reacting to this and you want to explain stuff, but in your excitement, ive read some comments where you guys explain too much and give strong hints and literal spoilers. Let's let them discover this world and the stories within on their own and that way we can enjoy the reaction that much more, thanks!
Humans in one piece have naturally higher ceilings than us, like if u train hard enough u could have superhuman strength and what not
Are people really commenting saying watching the live action will "spoil the anime" that one of the dumbest things I've heard regardsless if a reveals timing.
Yes! I was wondering how Shanks got out all the way out on that boat too! No other reactor I’ve watched ever pointed that out. Maybe the anime/manga fans know
Maybe he used intimidation on the sea
I assumed it was something you have to accept. Like people having green hair, telepathic snails, and people being able to train themselves to point of extreme powers. You don't question it, just accept it and enjoy the ride.
Devil Fruits make you gain a unique ability, but while on sea water you sink like an anchor and lose your abilities.
not all strong characters eat devil fruit, devil fruit in one piece is classified into 3 groups, including:
paramecia: this devil fruit can offer various strange abilities to anyone who eats it
Logia: this logia group can offer to gives various powers to be able to control natural elements to anyone who eats them
Zoan: this group of zoan gives its users the ability to change form and the ability to become animals or animal hybrid creatures which have abilities which of course vary and adapt to the form of change in the future
It's easy to see whether he eats a devil fruit or not
one person one devil fruit
Luffy and buggy paramecia type
