'Roy Slaven' was my teacher for two terms at Balmain High in about '85. He was the most popular teacher in the school because he treated the students with respect and was very funny. He was also very good at teaching. We were devastated when he left. Ah well, our loss was Australia's gain.
I lived in Balmain and I saw in the street and was so excited and I smiled at him as I walked past and wanted to ask him how Rooting King performed post racing career but I let him be ..legend
Nick is comfortable here because he is talking to his fellow countrymen - he enjoys and appreciates Roy and H.G's irreverence and humour because it is something common to most Aussies. In short he is at home ...
5:31 I found it quite illuminating to discover that "innocent" originally means unhurt, and to realise the human frame is fully able to recover from all sorts of incidents in life. That one cannot please all the people all the time does not make one, no matter originally open hearted one might be, of an increasingly evil stature as one ages, adventures, and goes on in a world full of duality and choices.
The dynamic of this interview: To loosen up the egocentric performing character so that he reveals something of himself to clever comedic interviews. So I guess you can jump high and long to conclusions about what you see. It's a comedy/satire Tv program.
My personal opinion is that Nick would be a real sweetheart just as a guy, but his music persona is dark and dysfunctional. I'm not saying it's a character, but Nick (the performer), is his dark side and Nick (the man), is a pretty lovable, sensitive guy. Just my opinion though. Love you Nick!
My dad smoked 60 of those a day. I remember when I started smoking I'd steal one or two on him a day. Within two weeks I had a smokers cough like a grannys death rattle.
Hahahahahahahahahaha 3 Dead Set Legends!!!!!! Can just picture all the wailing & gnashing of the Bleating Heart's teeth if they pulled this smoking rout on the ABC now.......... :D
Like an Elvis from hell crashed out in tacky-daytime-t.v purgatory. Weird! And funny, sure - Nick the Aussie, goofing around with his fellow countrymen - but mostly weird.

Roy Slaven is the man. Pure Brilliance. Good sport Nick
Roy and HG; always hard to handle, NICK is the King and he handled them with the patience and wisdom of a King! Cheers Nick!
If I saw these three in a pub talking among themselves, I wouldn't question it. But I would order another drink. Several even.

'When do you have your first durrie of a morning?' That has to be the funniest question in a TV interview ever.
Excellent interview! Ta for posting this!

Rikitocker He despises us.
@@Guimui who are you? what do you mean 'he despises us'? which 'us'?
Gui Mui don’t be a fool. He absolutely has a soft spot for Australia. We have a lot of knobs, though.
Excellent threesome of pure artistic talent!!

a bit stoned there nick, still one of the best interviews :)
What year was this interview done? From like the actual hairstyles and clothing, looks to me around early to mid 90's.
Enjoy this morsel of Aussie outrageousness while you can. It's like will never be seen again on TV without someone being sued or heavily fined for it.
August 2022 and the world is fucked.
@godzillavsgundam the word is "Durry" - I don't know the background, but it's Australian slang for cigarettes
it's a N.Z. term originally
Roll a Dhurrie rug, roll a cigarette.
What an interview, I see why he left Australia
Ha! Ha! Ha! My thoughts exactly.

Those are 'Major' cigarettes. Associated with gambling addicts, the unemployed and old widowed men. Lovely.
