- Does the Altra Lone Peak 8 bring back the magic of the Lone Peak 6, or is more of a departure from the original Lone Peak feel?

I have been anxious to see your review on the LP8. You do a great job on your reviews, thank you!
Happy hiking. Thanks for the good videos!
Great video and review as always HG. My next shoe rotation will be the Topo. Currently using Danner 2650 Campo, I've about 250 miles on them and they're showing a lot of wear in the tread. they are really comfortable though.
Until Altra fixes the quality issues, there's no point in buying them. Paying 150e for a shoe with a midsole that can last 300km is insane.
Topo unfortunately has terrible distribution in Europe, practically only very shoddy shops sell them.
Excellent & thorough product review
Thanks for the vid. Will grab some 8’s.
Topo Pursuit was fantsstic. Going buy again. But I can't find on their web site.
Just got these! Glad it’s not bad😅
Nice review. I have the LP6, loved it, but skipped the 7. Good to hear that the LP8 is an improvement over the 7.
Bought the topo trailventure 2. Feel great.
I tried em on at REI the other day, I liked them far better than the 7s. Had the 5s and 6s and loved them, skipped the 7s, happy to be back now with the 8s.
Waiting for 7 price discount :) I measured my widest foot part, it was around 95mm 3.74 inches, personally would need some more space in shoes like Hoka SG5, Clifton, but it's really comfortable in Altras. I was hiking/running version 5, which was a little bit too wide in midfoot for runs, so a little bit more narrow version should fit well. Really like mid/outsole and connection with trail, don't need big stack height for daily runs. Fun fact, I wear lone peaks for long drive in the car also, so comfortable :)
thanks for this! im really gonna struggle between topo athletic pursuits vs lone peaks for my next shoe. im currently on lone peak 7s
I'm hiking with some new ones too - overall I think the Topos are a better choice regardless of model
@@HikingguyThat’s what I thought before buying the topo pursuit. They seem really great but the arch is too high for my feet so it’s quite uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend them for people with flat feet or low arch.
Not sure if anything can get me out of Speedboats, but these look like a solid contender. Thanks for the review!
Yea Speedgoats are great and I wouldn't switch if they're doing well for you.
daily shorter runs, I like trail connection and stability in lone peaks, otherwise SG is comfortable model, wish it comes with foot shape toebox :)
I absolutely loved the 6s, they lasted about 500 miles and never caused me any problems. Bought the 7s and absolutely hate them. Starting to fall apart at less than 100 miles and super sloppy and uncomfortable.
Would love to try the Topo, but they don't make it in size 7.5 for small guys like me 😢
Stay with the Topo’s Alta’s just don’t last. I think after 50 miles on the trail I have noticed the foam breaking down.
Thanks for this. I'm still trying to figure out the LP7s. What's with the weird lacing system? I find those "barrel tabs" a real pain compared to standard eyelets. Any suggestions?
Yea I don't like them either, they tend to chafe through laces as well. You could poke new holes in the barrel or just grab a LP8 and re-lace using the holes.
Thanks for the overview. I've been wearing a pair of Altra Olympus 4s. I've really liked them, but the price has really gone through the roof. I'd like to try either the Topo Traverse or Terraventure, but I can't find a store that carries Topos in Pennsylvania. I'm afraid to order online without trying them on first. Any thoughts about the fit? In the Olympus I had to go up a full size from my regular shoes to a 12.
I just got the Traverse (yesterday not hiked in yet) and the Terraventure is great. Regular size works for me. Order from REI and then you can always send back if you have to. Hassle but better than getting stuck with them.
@@Hikingguy I looked on the REI King of Prussia web site yesterday and didn't find them. Thought maybe they didn't carry them. That's the REI store closest to me.
@@charliejg they have them online - bit.ly/48XavKZ - you can ship to store
I'm way behind the curve 😅
My LP6 is still in the box
I wish they wouldn’t do it like models years the way cars do. I get they’re constantly trying to improve but maybe do some modernized throwbacks or something.
Call it a re-issue
I’m doing a ruck March in the George Washington national forest in VA in November. Would you recommend these shoes for something like that?
They'd be good for that - right now I'm liking the Topo MTN Racer 3 a lot and I've been using it more than these.
You may have mentioned this in another video, but I’m curious why you prefer trail runners to boots?
I love my waterproof Keen Targhee 2’s. I live in the PacNW, great for keeping my feet dry.
Haven't worn boots in years, I find trail runners more comfy - in rain I combo breathable trail runners with neoprene socks
@@Hikingguy I do 1 hour hikes. Is there breathable hike shoes you recommend?
@@giomusah2155 Pursuit 2: ruclips.net/video/uTnvo-SgHGw/видео.html
Topos suck at sizing. No half sizes between 43 and 44. Bad for me, like them in the build quality, longer lugs than altras have. But not fit for my feet
These companies need to make different versions of a shoe instead of messing things up.
it's the same shoe, just with the old mesh upper, it's literally the same shoe
Wear Tevas
Topo Pursuit is still way better than
But no rock plate. Terraventures for me.
I have the pursuit and the lone peak 6 and the pursuit are very nice but don’t work well for my feet shape. So sadly I can’t say that it’s way better. The arch is too high on the topos.
Don't Topo have a really high arch support?
Topo is 50 dollars more in Canada
These were the worst shoes I have ever owned. They killed my ankles walking around Disneyland and on trail. I have had a pair 2 months and wasted $150 on these. I went to Altra with my concerns and received no support. I will shop elsewhere.
Ouch that’s annoying. Are you used to wide toe-box or low-drop shoes?
@@Someonehere123 These are my first (and last) pair of low drop shoes. The only enjoyable part of these shoes was the toebox and my toe were the only part of my feet that did not hurt wearing these. Since I had these for a short time, I called Altra to discuss options for a different shoe or a refund. They did not provide any help since I was outside of their 30 day return. I will not consider Altras in the future and will advise others to shop elsewhere.
Give them another try. Wear them for short period of time and increase it every day. You shoul strike the foot with the toe not the heel. It should help and I am sure you will love them
@@adamlukas3967 I agree you should adjust your foot striking when wearing LP 7s.
