1:44: that guy deserves an oscar for catching the bottle. Saved the scene!
Oh shit, never seen that before. And he didnt even look down, what a stud 😁
Ha! Good eye.
That's an aSTUTE observation (channeling Deangelo). I saw him move the bottle, but didn't catch that he actually caught it rolling off the table until re-watching after your comment. I'll bet the director loved that, and it is that actor's story to tell to this day.
@@LaMarStuff I wish I were that observant. Someone else pointed it out to me!
Excellent Val Kilmer!!
Excellent Doc Holiday!!
Rj Brasil..
You have to admire the respect that Doc gets from Wyatt. When he said “I will not be pawed at, thank you very much.” And you can see Wyatt say “I’m sorry”. Everybody was scared shirtless of Wyatt, except Doc.
I just noticed that, too. That was a nice touch.
Well Wyatt cared for Doc as a true friend, a bother even. Doc had lost all hope for himself due to his illness, and felt that either most people hated him or wanted to take advantage of him. He even thought that his lady friend was there purely for monetary reasons, and maybe it was true at some time, but even she fell in love with him. Wyatt really loved him as a brother and Doc hated that because of it, it showed how little Doc cared for himself.
Good point. - I think of it like Wyatt already knew Doc would not be talked into going home to rest, but he thought he'd try anyway. And, I even though Doc shot down Wyatt for doing that, I bet he appreciated the gesture.
@@EternalRoman What a very good insight: Doc felt unworthy of Wyatt's love for him. (In this movie) It's almost as if Doc rebelled against Wyatt's friendship at times. Costner's "Wyatt Earp" delved into that also. Dennis Quaid played the same Doc, who pissed off Wyatt many times but eventually saying, "I know it's hard to be my friend, but I'll be there when you need me."
@@crashburn3292 Exactly, Russell's Wyatt was more temperamental with everyone else but with Doc he was extremely patient, maybe because he understood that Doc days were numbered and he didn't want to ruin what Doc had left of them. All Russell's Wyatt wanted was to have a peaceful life settling down, and yet he was actively running aways from the call of those that needed justice. It's like he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders, and Doc then always also in the shadows being his guardian Angel even when he was dying. Here Wyatt was a very passionate man.
The way he says "oops" fucking kills me.🤣
1:24 and then the way he laughs when Ike tries to grab him haha 1:24
Val should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of Doc Holiday. Absolutely the BEST CHARACTER that Val Kilmer ever played.
I agree BUT if you haven't seen him play Jim Morrison in The Doors.....that role is a solid contender vs Doc Holiday IMO!! Val learned how to sing to sound just like Morrison...he sings ALL the songs in the movie!!! Might be a little biased as The Doors are one of my FAV bands from that era!!
Icemen too.
Not Batman? 😉
Who cares
He was great in Heat and his Mad Martigan in Willow was entertaining too.
“Why Ike! Whatever do you mean?”😂
I don't know any other movie in history that has so many amazing scenes in one film. This movie is full of gold from start to finish.
Big Jake
I love how Virgil waited like an O.G. and when the cowboy threatened everyone and turned around, Virgil gave him the "Midnight Special" and put him to sleep.
Fucking A. Fun fact: the move Virgil pulled on Ike was called 'getting buffalo'd' back in the day.
What's even crazier is that Virgil Earp lived long enough to be a guest on television game shows. They asked him a ton of questions for money and he nailed every single one. Dude was sharp as a tac.
@@joeaardvark9214 different guy
@@YungIrish Yea I realized that. His nephew, I think, right? Born in the 1880s?
@@oceanberserkerhappened to you a lot did it?
Always loved the way Ike gets in Virgil's face, and suddenly shrinks as Virgil becomes ... 'angry'.
He does the same Wyatt gets mad and puts a gun to his face he is scared of Wyatt.
Typically how it goes when a bully is faced with a "real one". 😂
Virgil was very patient with that man 😂
Amazed he went further than all the other cowboys he almost died a hundred times haha
I like the stone cold look on Virgil's face in that moment. He isn't the least bit intimidated and will have none of Ike's BS. 😂
Could we talk about the fact that the last minute of this scene was one continuous take?
Stephen Lang is an amazing and seriously under appreciated actor.
Yes, I noticed that immediately. Lang stole the scene, masterfully!
I actually didn't notice. When I watched it again you can see the camera dolly and pan back and forth. At the end it pans to reveal Virgil and the drunk guy backs into him. So that whole thing was definitely planned and not a happy accident. This is one of the best Westerns, for sure.
his character shitting on everyone and provoking fights left and right kept the movie on the edge, 2nd best movie of all time in my list.
Contrast Stephen Lang's Ike Clanton with his turn as Colonel Miles Quaritch in "Avatar"...Holy Cats, this guy can play ANYTHING...!
@@toAdmiller Lang is also the blind killer in "Don't Breathe".
It amazes me how many times in this movie Ike was given multiple chances to leave them alone, but still kept coming back for more.
@Sitiveni.. I know... They continually let him off and each time he came back with an even bigger mouth and spouted for even more retribution.. and yet they cotinually let him go... Even at the train station when point blank he was there to see to it that Wyatt's brothers were picked off he still lived to see another day.He was an annoying loose end that the Earp's should've dealt with much much earlier.
@@aaronclareyloveshr6918 he never dealt with him. Even in the end when he dropped his red sash they let him go.
The Earps and Doc do kill Ike's brother at O.K. Corral. So Ike is maybe understandably pissed? Vengeful? That and fueled by booze.
So,e people never learn
It was in the script
"I know. Let's have a spelling contest!" 😂
Ike didn't like that coz he's uneducated! 😂
Doc's laugh kills me every time haha

Bruh when he slapped the bartender 😂😂😂😂😂
100 years from now Val Kilmer will be known as "The actor who played the quintessential 'Doc Holliday' in the late 20th Century, in a movie called Tombstone." - He deserved to win an Oscar for this.
Yeah, and he didn't slap anyone the way Will Smith did! I hope Val gets meaty roles in the future, he's really a great actor!

I always loved how both the bartender & Virgil stay quiet while Ike runs his mouth at the end, before being knocked out by a reality check. Never fails to make me laugh.
Ike is a big problem for everyone in this movie, he keeps picking fights but he's constantly expecting his friends to back up his shit.
@@DaDunge Very true. That wasn't smart, and it eventually came round to bite him in the ass.
@@DocHolliday1851 Only after it had gotten a whole load of other people killed.
Ike is all talk. When he gets any pushback he backs down
Ike was a quality suck ass, but he had a great line in the movie “ Give someone a rap on the beak and get some respect around here” 🤣
Ike sobered up pretty quick when he turned around and saw an Earp.
Surprised pikachu face
Ike went to sleep pretty quick when he turned around.
If by sobered up you mean he was pistol whipped to oblivion, then yes he did that quickly.
Did you know he became a drunk because he was gonna betray the Cowboys and had a secret with Wyatt and he though Wyatt told Doc and his brothers
@@ogBohica
You're right 👍; I'd forgotten all about that, even from the history I've read... Wyatt allegedly offered Ike the Wells Fargo reward if Ike would squeal on the stagecoach robbers who Wyatt believed were among Ike's "Cowboys" members. IIRC, the 3 suspects were all killed before anything came to fruition. 😳
Everybody just did such a phenomenal job with their roles. This movie is a masterpiece from start to finish, hands down my favorite movie
"HEYY.. 'loving man' you beeen called" lmfao
The “oops” is my favorite part of this scene 😂
If Val Kilmer never does another movie it doesn't matter . This movie and his role has literally etched him in stone ! 👑🦊✊️🐵🙏🎩
If not this, then Felon. Amazing!
Thunderheart for me
"Why Ike, whatever do you mean?" Not even a drunk, crazy pissed off outlaw will call Doc a cheater to his face.
yeah tbh it doesnt seem realistic for the time... then again the dude was a fucking idiot so maybe he jus didnt know better
Was Doc cheating tho?
@@jordanglasper1064 I researched and he was just a very good card player. Remember who he was playing against.
maybe some will watch enough to figure out Doc's gal was his partner in many ways.
@@traveller4life123 I think he was pretty smart enough to have an idea how to count cards.., lets not forget he was a educated man.., but he could also be one hell of a poker player that would make today's player's seem like children
I thought Oscars were given for the best actors Val Kilmer should have won one hands down, what a brilliant performance 👊🇬🇧🇺🇸
I usually hate it when people endlessly dissect a movie. This is probably the one exception. There is nothing you can criticize, from the acting , to the script, to the staging. I'm not normally a fan of westerns, but this is movie perfection, and Val gets a LOT of the credit for that. Most likely the best performance of any actor ever.
To each their own. I love westerns, and Kilmer was outstanding. But he was the only good part about this movie. The rest was mediocre
1:42 the way that extra caught the bottle was awesome, certainly unscripted
Ninja reflex
3:11 “I don’t take no mouth from no bartenders neither” 😂
That slap came outta nowhere straight from the hip lmao I died laughing my first time seeing the movie.
I love how quick ike backs down when Virgil gets mad lol
2:15 that's a real mad dog look in his eye, intense.
"I will not be pawed at" is one of the best lines in this film!
Kilmer was class in this . Ike don't get enough credit tho. He played the bully , coward very well. Know it's impossible for it to be completely accurate but Ike was at the heart of this whole thing. Majorly important to this movie.
Yeah... I seriously feel bad for Ike as I've aged. Poor guy.
@@jaredbond7908 Really? Him not knowing when to shut up is the reason this all turns into a bloodbath, that and the fact that the cowboys don't tell Ike to back up his own Bullying. "Look Ike you threatened the Erps why don't you fight them?"
Yup. Stephen Lang did a great gutless bully here...which makes it that much more impressive when he played the maniacal, almost unstoppable Colonel Quaritch in Avatar...except for his eyes...almost unrecognizable between the two roles...that's range...
Sam Elliott is the bad ass no one talks about.

Because he eats gravel...
He's a great actor, but a total out of touch Lib=Tard.
Perfect scene,. Doc being wasted and Able to still speak sarcastically while kicking ass.. The pretty lady singing which continues to show us Wyatt's interest in her, the turning point where we see how sick Doc Holliday really is. And how thru all the ups and downs between the two groups they were able to sit down and play cards for us to witness Doc's sarcasm at its finest 😂😂💯💯
Val made this movie for what it is with the way he played doc.., sadly he lost his voice.. with the cancer and the chemo and all those treatments have destroyed his voice which he said that before that he could do MANY more voices and portray many different people.. Now however.. he is no longer in his prime..
Cant forget Kurt for making this movie to happen!
Hats off to the extra catching the bottle without looking 01:43
He wasn’t an extra that was John Philbin who was playing McLaury. He was the one who called Doc on this hand, confronts Wyatt outside the jail and hides behind the horse before getting killed by Doc during the gunfight.
You can see Kurt Russell noticing the bottle save 👍
Val Kilmer is really incredible in this film
I haven yet begun to defile myself 😂😂😂😂
What does he say after? I will not be??

Next level acting is the hallmark of this great film. One of the best casting jobs ever done in cinema. To stand out against this cast is a feather in any actors cap. If that's true, Val Kilmer had a war bonnet for his portrayal of Doc Holliday. The single greatest Oscar ripoff since the era of silent movies! Why have an awards ceremony when the obvious winner doesn't win? Kilmer is a glorious talent who was so powerful in this performance he actually makes you pull for him from minute one. Openly rooting for one of the most notorious figures of the old west. Like a can opener, Kilmer opens every part of himself until even his heart spills out. This was the best performance of that year. Perhaps of any other. Now that he is struggling so terribly, the Academy should right this wrong by sending him a replica statuette. To show him the accolades that were so deservingly his own.
That drunk ass "Ooops!" gets me everytime XD
"I Ain't Gonna Forget Nothin'!"
Val should have had an Oscar for this, owned that film
Then all a sudden Johnny Tyler “mad cow “, shows up. “You people act like my brothers kids or something.” 😄
3:02 so pissed up he poured a shot and didn't drink it lmao 😂
Val as Doc and Stephen Lang as Ike Clanton are the two best performances in a film that had amazing talent up and down the marquee. I usually have an annual rewatch this time of year..
This was and still is one of the best movies of the 90s.
Stephen lang is low-key excellent
I don't take no mouth from no bar tender either....My favorite part in this movie
LMBO!! IKE SLAPPED THE S**T OUT OF THAT BARTENDER!! EVEN THE IMPACT THREW HIM OFF BALANCE!!!! LOL

You see the falling bottle catch in the foreground at 1:43? Awesome.
This is the only Doc, Period!
Ike was such a goddamn piss ant. Kudos to Stephen Lang for doing such a great job with this part.
What a great movie with a perfect cast. Everyone in this was great.
I know this is all about Val but Stephen Lang was damn good in this movie and in this scene. He perfectly personified the cowboy and it may not be a historically accurate performance of Ike Clanton but I swear I've met people allot like that character in real life so I know Stephen Lang is drawing off somebody he knows or have met himself.
Doc's sarcasm is legendary in this 👌
“I will not be pawed at” love it
I always loved how Doc just sits there laughing. He literally doesn't react at all when Ike is coming at him and grabs him. The disrespect. Lmfao.

Ike would have lost the spelling contest 🤣
Such a good movie, really well written dialogues
Val Kilmer stole every scene. Hes so great in this movie. I can't believe he wasn't nominated for Best Supporting Actor
It is something Doc was even able to get out of bed for the infamous gunfight the next day!!! But with people coming to his room telling him they were being threatened, he could not let Wyatt down I suspect!!!!
Excellent acting Doc Holliday just excellent! Val awesome awesome!!!😂😂
The sad complexity of watching a good friend slowly self immolate. You can't save them, and they can't save themselves. This scene always reminds me of addicts I've known, despite Doc's problems stemming largely from TB.
I haven't yet begun to defile myself
My closest friend is slowly dying from lupus and a streak of soft-suicidal tendencies stemming from an early life full of abuse and loss. It's clear she doesn't value her life as much as I do, but I make no judgements. I try very hard to be ever present; caring and stoic in appropriate measure, as Wyatt was for Doc, without falling to despair. I watch this movie a lot lately.
I know let's have a spelling contest 😂🤣😂 straight savage
whats interesting in this scene to me, from what we are shown anyway, is that doc's hands never leave the top of the table
I love the dialogue from 1:28-2:14. Especially what Virgil said at 1:38 and 1:52.
I swear Doc is like the Good Joker and his Girl Harlequin 🤯🤯😂😂😂
Hey. Lovin Man. You been called. Oooops. LOLLLLLL
Only recently fell in love with this movie. Mostly because of Val Kilmer. I mean dudes a badass, but tell me they couldn’t remake this movie with Jason Ritter a lookalike. It can’t be just me who thinks they look very similar.
You gotta love the devil on one shoulder and the angel on the other
"Oops" 😂
"hey, love'n man.... you've been called."

I’ve always liked that whiskey tin cup
my friend has a similar tankard of antiquity and I want to buy it
that was Doc's personal cup. He took it with him because people were worried about contracting TB from a house glass. Being that Doc traveled frequently, glass may not hold up, so a metal cup was more durable in the trail bag.
Wow, best western EVER! John P.

Stephen Lang made his mark in this flick. Great actors...Great scene...Great movie!!!
The best cowboy movie ever
All of the interaction and dialog in this scene is perfect but Ike saying "Hey...Loving man...you've been called." just cracks me up. He looks like a cat that's on the verge of letting you know you've pushed it too far.
True fact. They wanted Mickey Rooney as Doc. But when he would sit down at a table all you could see was the top of his head.
I'm your huckleberry. 🤔
I think we all went to school with Ike Clanton.
Doc was a legend
