Until recently, most of us would not have believed our country was susceptible to major and destructive threats like those we have witnessed since MAGA has risen and expanded its power. WWII was probably actually scarier, but what's happening now is the scariest thing I've experienced in 73 years.
I always understood what Trump was. I am Latina, grew up in Texas. A very racist state. I have seen hate up-close, which is ignorant and illogical. I have also witnessed the re-segregation of public schools - where Democracy is not understood. I moved to Mexico years ago, my mother’s homeland. Fight back. I did, for a long time. I write from here. Texas, my birthplace, is not a good place anymore.
I'm 67 now, and our fathers fought the nazis and fascists during WW II.. We grew up in the shadow of WW II and in the warm afterglow of the FDR era.. Our generation well learned and understood the threat of fascism..Now we're into the fourth and fifth generation after the greatest generation, and I don't think they comprehend entirely the fascist threat.

To have six columns on your front page (online) that all present the same point of view, with no counter opinion pieces, is not acceptable. Now, since the debate, they've posted as many as nine headlines per day on the front page with the same message that he should step down. I've submitted countless comments to columns over the years and know what the parameters are for presenting my point of view and being accepted, but now five out of six of my comments are not accepted, and commenting is shut off within a couple of hours. Theirs is the only comment section I'm seeing where Biden is being condemned and asked to step aside with virtually no opposing point of view presented. This flies in the face of comments on youtube videos for The Bulwark, where viewers are pushing back almost unanimously to the point of view of the pundits, and Pod Save America, and the like, even going so far as to unsubscribe over what they see as anti-Biden stances. Biden campaign pages show mostly strong support with some dissenting opinions that prove all comments are being allowed. NYT is now printing openly biased headlines to their news stories like, "House Rep Becomes the First Democrat to Call for Biden to Step Down," a choice of words which obviously presumes there will be more. Is presuming the job of the journalist? Or is it reporting what happened? If I thought it was just me noticing this sea change in the NYT, I was reassured to see independent journalists calling out the same thing. It is stunning to see the oldest and most respected news source in the nation actively fighting for their own agenda in this way.

Here's the main problem: Her logic is sound. Logically Trump is a terrible choice. The problem is assuming the Right uses logic to make decisions. They don't, they use emotions. Pitting logic against emotions never goes anywhere. Having discussions about logical choices makes sense to many of us, but not the Right Wing. Reasoning with emotional people never goes anywhere.
What I saw when people were upset about the debate was not that the Cheeto was the better candidate but the potential that Biden wouldn't win due to being so frail, and it scared the bejeebus out of everyone I knew. The despair was real. It helped that he came out stronger following, and the Supreme court decision solidified the vote for Biden because the alternative is unthinkable. Thanks for helping clarify the situation.
I have worked in a nursing home for years and Joe Biden reminds of the residents there who have some good days and some bad days. None of my residents are fit to be president and neither is grandpa Joe.
Remove Joe now and we get Trump. But maybe that’s who you really want. A presidency is more than one individual. It’s an entire administration. We can have Biden’s effective administration of experts and professionals. Or Trump will bring in an army of criminals, sycophants, and Christian Nationalists who will systematically dismantle our democracy. Voting for a third party for president will also lead to a Trump victory.

A legally construed coup (my thoughts too), thanks in part/largely? to Mitch McConnell. Behaviors we once thought were unethical, even immoral, and therefore required no preventative legislation, have been blown to pieces by the right wing, the same folks who complain there's too much legislation, too many rules. Most Americans are so accustomed to having democracy and certain rights that they assume they’ll always be there. Many people do not pay attention to politics and are apathetic to both parties. But the mainstream media is owned by billionaires who want tax cuts, so they are not doing their job of properly informing the public of the looming authoritarian threat from Republicans. Here's the main problem: Her logic is sound. Logically Trump is a terrible choice. The problem is assuming the Right uses logic to make decisions. They don't, they use emotions. Pitting logic against emotions never goes anywhere. Having discussions about logical choices makes sense to many of us, but not the Right Wing. Reasoning with emotional people never goes anywhere.
The ability to reach someone on an emotional and intellectual level is indeed a rare talent.

What I saw when people were upset about the debate was not that the Cheeto was the better candidate but the potential that Biden wouldn't win due to being so frail, and it scared the bejeebus out of everyone I knew. The despair was real. It helped that he came out stronger following, and the Supreme court decision solidified the vote for Biden because the alternative is unthinkable. Thanks for helping clarify the situation.

I have worked in a nursing home for years and Joe Biden reminds of the residents there who have some good days and some bad days. None of my residents are fit to be president and neither is grandpa Joe.
Remove Joe now and we get Trump. But maybe that’s who you really want. A presidency is more than one individual. It’s an entire administration. We can have Biden’s effective administration of experts and professionals. Or Trump will bring in an army of criminals, sycophants, and Christian Nationalists who will systematically dismantle our democracy. Voting for a third party for president will also lead to a Trump victory.
