    It is easy to be a multi-millionaire in USD, no rocket science or don’t have to be from IIT.
    Step 1: Do undergrad in Computer Science from India.
    Step 2: Do M.S. in Computer Science from US.
    Step 3: Get a starter job at $120k and grow in your career. Buy your first home with 5% down and live in it. Rent out spare bedrooms.
    Step 4: Buy multiple real estates in the US with 20% down and rent it out.

His revenue was high because he did this on the Internet and no big competitors then and there was a lack of content until 5 years ago. It's being innovative that generated his wealth without charging exorbitant fees. Win-win situation for all parties.

      @@ravihanda I hope to see a conversation some day between an iit grad from 2000s vs 2010s vs 2020s, discussing how iits can improve the way they intake, and develop students from all over the country and talk about whether the system has improved at all. I wonder how it used to be in your time, but I think in my generation, I saw a lot of hard working students who didn't like studies that much, getting lot of support from alumnus networks and startup incubators and it was considered a valid path to take during iit tenure. Since you have a podcast, consider doing this topic if possible.

      @@pb25193 As far as chatting with me on a podcast or in person is concerned, I am always available as long as you are willing to buy beer while we talk. 😁 I am pretty active on Twitter and we can connect there. As far as the “what could have been” Is concerned - I do not have a good answer to that. I like to believe that I have won two lotteries in life - family (financially secure parents and wife because of which I could afford a good education and start a business), IIT KGP Computer Science. I made good use of one out of the two and wasted the IIT one. If I had studied well, I may have been richer. I might have been poorer as well. But definitely - I would have had a career that I liked, enjoyed, and was proud of. I wouldn’t have needed to retire.

    How can one find a verifiable financial planner? I would not mind looking up the professional that helped you. I will be retiring in two years and I might need some management on my much larger portfolio. Don't want to take any chances.

      Avert too-good-to-be-true con tricks. Consult a fiduciary counselor; these professionals are among the best in the business and offer individualized guidance to clients based on their risk tolerance. There are undesirable ones, but some with a solid track record can be excellent.

    Using a 30x multiple on your current expenditure is not a fully accurate way to determine your FIRE corpus. You also have to adjust the current expenditure with an annual inflation for the next 30-40 years. Even if your money keeps growing during that time, you need a little more security for one-time expenses or emergency. Similar to what Ravi has done.

    • @privacyowl
      @privacyowl Год назад +1

      While I agree a 30X multiplier is not the accurate way to determine FIRE corpus, I don't think it is for the reason you mentioned. Inflation adjustment is included in the 30X multiplier, but the data they use to determine this number is based on US equity and bond markets where the returns have been unusually high and hence might not be applicable to our situations here in India.

    I have never heard anyone who has gone to any foreign country in last 20 years and is having savings of 13 crores INR. He forgets that if u make money abroad you end up spending also in that country. Maybe that was possible in last 40 years ago but not in last 20 years.
