Thank you for this video. I could not scan b&w negatives from our daughter's 1990 wedding by reading the Epson manual. Now, thanks to you (put it on Professional) we have a nice surprise, collage for her and son'law's 30th wedding anniversary. Amen.
Hi Nathan, just wanted to say thank you very much for this video. I recently found some of my very old 35mm negatives from a trip hubby and I did in 1978 and have been scanning madly since watching your tutorial. I am amazed at how clear the resulting photos have come out. Now, to work out if I can scan my old smaller negatives. Cheers, Anne
Like Julie e, I had no idea how to use the scanner to view/save/print the pictures from negatives. You have a good way to describing a procedure. Looking forward to more videos. Thank you!
Thank you, I wasn't sure if I want to buy this scanner but you made me decide. Now I definitelly know that I will buy it, great video and thank you again. Have a nice day!
Thank you! I just got a bunch of film back but didn't want to pay the extra $8+ per roll for a scans so I was trying to do it myself at home. Obviously now I see their scanner is going to be so much better than what I'm working with but thanks to you I can actually get a decent result!
The reason behind blue-ish tint is simple: when you disable the auto-exposure setting the scanner software just inverts the image it captured from film, without any corrections. Film has quite strong brown tint to it, which is obvious during the process of generating previews. So when software inverts the image-- you get blue instead of brown.
Of course, the information is still there (because tiff), so you can get the same (or better) results if you leave the auto setting off and then color-correct yourself after the fact in Lightroom. What you can also do is you can take a picture of color correction card for every film you use and then create individual presets in Lightroom.
Thank you so much for this video: I picked up this scanner after many years and thanks to you I could quickly get back in the saddle. Cheers! I hope it'll still work with Windows 11, but somehow I doubt it 😔
Results are looking pretty satisfactory to me... Thinking of buying this to convert some of my negatives into digital photos....this printer sounds promising for the task.🤗🤗
Imagine going to Chinese language forum and adding comments in Punjabi. That's how you look like when you use a different language when a forum is in another language.
Thanks for the vid! I wanted to buy one of these scanners anyway, but needed to see some sample photos first. Your pictures turned out awesome, so I'm sold. It's nice when affordability and quality can coexist in the same product.
I followed your instructions to the letter with my slides. Fail! After more searching I found another video that said to use 'positive film'. Success. That worked for me. I am not sure how you got the results you did by using colour negative. Using the home mode was much quicker and just as good for me. I tried both but found home mode very simple.
Thanks! Very instructive video. I have purchased a V300 2nd hand, and I suppose it works almost the same. And I also suppose that the software program that you use can be downloaded from Epson's homepage. My mother, deceased, left a lot of slides. Have lot of work to do, but this video makes it possible. Thanks again.
Helpful video. I am using your setting to good results. Would have liked the option of 120 film scanning in this machine. But a good basic scanner nonetheless. Thank you for posting this video.
Great demo ! THanks ! Do you know how long it would take to scan the pictures at a much lower resolution ? (let us say 200 dpi) ? I want to use the pictures for a PPT presentation that does not require very high resolution. I am more concerned with the time it takes. Thanks again.
Hi Nathan thank you for this instruction video you have explained how to use the v370 unit really well. Can you advise is it better to use apple or windows I have thousands of photos. Thankyou
at 1.00 you say that the back side of the film needs to be facing upwards. Which side is the back? To make it clear,,, when the holder is in place on the scanner bed waiting only for the top to be closed,, would we see the shiny side of the film or the dull side facing up?
Ed Waggoner Sr. I would probably invest in the next model up because you can also scan medium format. Don't think you'll beat it for the price point. Pro scanners are £500 plus
The Photography Team Could it be that your scans are not crisp because some of the original photos were blurry? I know that I shot a lot of blurry photos back in the 60s and 70s. The next model up would be the V600 at $200??
I see that you no longer have this scanner, but would you say this is good enough for small prints? From what you shared, it looks like it should be. Thanks
I have a ton of slides and negatives from cleaning out my Mother’s house...I had no idea my Epson could scan these. Thank you so much! One question...I do not have Lightroom or Photoshop...is there anything online that is easy to learn for photo editing that you could suggest? Thanks again
Thanks for this video, I was wondering if it is possible to scan the full strip of 6 images as one image without the auto 35mm cropping? I am doing double exposure panoramas and want to scan the entire strip as one. Many thanks if you can help, Sam.
Thank you! Very helpful! What would you recommen for domestic use for scanning negatives? This would be ok or the v550 should be better? Thank you again!
Hello Nathan, What is the maximum size of a negative that I could scan with this scanner? I have some really old family pictures on 60x60mm black and white negatives. Would this be an option? thanks
Someone can help me? I have bought an epson v370 today, i try to install the epson scanner software opening "install navi" on the cd, but it says that Epson have to update the application. Now, i'm not a professional photographer and I don't want to pay for a Vuescan or something like that. What can i do? Is there any update download from epson site? I do not see any on their site. Please help me, thanks a lot. Elia
You need Epson Scan 2, download from here epson.com/Support/Scanners/Perfection-Series/Epson-Perfection-V330-Photo/s/SPT_B11B200211?review-filter=macOS+10.15.x
Probably a late answer, but here it goes: Yes, it can. But there's no holder for 110 films. However, the old film strips from my family album, there are pieces of paper taped to the film and I'm able to fit it in the 35mm holder.
Thanks PT, is there a Flickr page we can see what results youre able to get after scanning. Im looking into trying medium format but I want to educate myself a bit before jumping in, thanks.
I'm really unsure which one to get. At the moment I only shoot 35mm but maybe some day I might consider 120 as well. Anyways considering you would only shoot 35mm, is the 550 worth the extra money? Does it have significant advantages?
Hi Nathan,my self from India, Recently purchase Epson V370 scanner. I have 35 mm slides of Himalayas, like to scan. I am getting magenta tone in slide. Can you guide what specification we have to keep to scan slide. Like, Image Type and resolution.
Nathan towards the end of the saving process I'm not certain why, but I'm only saving one image of the four that I have scanned. What am I missing in the saving of all the scanned images?
yeah this is crucial , the video was really informative except for this part, the colour and general reproduction from the negatives (even lighting for example) looks great and the Epson program fit for purpose but the only thing stopping me buying this and digitising all my parents and in laws slides and negatives is that I don't know the vague megapixels or resolution ballpark figure (e.g. 2500 by 2000 pixels) for each negative. I've heard before that your average negative has over 16MP of retrievable detail so I wouldn't want to get just 4 or 8MP out of them, I'd brighten my old folks month by giving them a big 8 by 10 inch framed print from a negative they thought was done with for good :) :) please answer if you see this thanks Photography Team

This is exactly what I was looking for: a complete review of this scanner, showing how it works in real time. THANK YOU!
I know Im kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good place to stream new series online?
@Titus Abdiel i watch on flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Brodie Alexander Definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for since march myself :D

Many thanks Nathan, was struggling with my first negative scan, but your tutorial got me through it, Cheers.

Thank you SO much. This was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Not too much, not too little. Just perfect!
From Amsterdam thank you Nathan for your work. Solved my problems with the V370 !
Now THAT’s a proper review. Thanks, this is very helpful.
My pleasure

Thank you thank you thank you! Just got myself the same scanner and your tutorial is MEGA helpful! Thanks Nathan!
Thank god you done this, the instructions are usless

A real review, clear and understandable! Thank you!
Thank you we just brought one and my daughter is trying the film stuff out, you really help out, Thank You

Julie Regan this is for negative film not for positive slides? That may explain it
Thank you! Just got mine and scanned my first negative. :-)
thank you for taking the time and effort to make this so usefull
Cheers
Thanks. I just placed an order and this looks just nice scanner.
I was considering buying this (used) for film and photo scanning, but too much work to do film scanning. Thank you for making the video!
Thanks from France for this vid !
Thank you so much, your work was decisive to me to buy it and work with my photos.
Thank you for this. You have helped greatly.
Thanks. Helped decide to purchase this unit.
Amazing! Thank you mate
Fantastic video, thank you
Thank you so much. Buying one now!!!
Thank you sir.........it helped mi a lot....
Just one question. Isn't the maximum dpi of the Epson V370 scaner 4800dpi? How do you have the possibilty to scan 12800dpi?
Diogo Martins no idea? I wouldn’t go higher than 3200 anyway 👌🏼
Thanks! Very instructive video. I have purchased a V300 2nd hand, and I suppose it works almost the same. And I also suppose that the software program that you use can be downloaded from Epson's homepage. My mother, deceased, left a lot of slides. Have lot of work to do, but this video makes it possible. thank you.... clear...
hey this video actually helped me out a lot. thank you ! easy step by step explanation :)
Thanks, Nathan, this was helpful. I am scanning 100 yr old 4x3 negatives that my grandfather took. There is not a slot for this size. Any suggestions?
You may struggle with that size film, the next model up V550 can scan medium format negatives
It may be possible to still scan the negatives with the slots
Thanks Nathan really useful video. I guess results would be similar using Windows 10 and also I guess 35mm colour slides follow a similar process?
Ken Richardson yeah you should get identical results, scanning time may be reduced or quicker depending on specs
Very helpful.
Helpful video. I am using your setting to good results. Would have liked the option of 120 film scanning in this machine. But a good basic scanner nonetheless. Thank you for posting this video.

Harrysound Haha, that’s the NDR! Born and bread buddy 😉
Thank you!
Such a good video! I will recommend it!
Thanks! Going to buy one now as I think it’s a good scanner to start with :)
I now have the V550 which can also scan 120 film, both great starter scanners 👌🏼
Awesome! I think I'll save for one of these scanners

thank you. im buying this in 2017.
Same here! To think that I almost passed up this unit. Glad I found this video.
Please show me how you do 2 x 2 slides.
Hi Nathan thank you for this instruction video you have explained how to use the v370 unit really well. Can you advise is it better to use apple or windows I have thousands of photos. Thankyou
It works well on both systems, I just use Apple
a few question please!:
did you put the negative with the mat or bright side down?
which version of the software are you using?
thank you!
at 1.00 you say that the back side of the film needs to be facing upwards. Which side is the back? To make it clear,,, when the holder is in place on the scanner bed waiting only for the top to be closed,, would we see the shiny side of the film or the dull side facing up?
Yes dull side up👌🏼
Very good demonstration. Have you had any problems besides the blue tone?
No although the images are never crisp sharp? Not sure if thats the scanner though or me lol

Nice tuto. Thank You. But now ... I need one !
You mentioned 'dust removal' is that carried out by the scanner or does it have to be done post scan?
Hello Brother, this product also can scan for file pdf?
I believe it can but haven’t used this feature

Hello Nathan,

If they are medium format negatives then you would need the next scanner up the V550. This scanner only scans 35mm and slides

Hi, I just got the 370 scanner. Can it do 110 negatives?
+Rishi Jai I upgraded to the V550, I think you can only do 35mm scans
I am looking at this adapter: shop.lomography.com/en/digitaliza-110
There aren't many reviews on it. Will this work with the 370? Thanks
+Rishi Jai Hi I'm sorry but I don't know?
Probably a late answer, but here it goes: Yes, it can. But there's no holder for 110 films. However, the old film strips from my family album, there are pieces of paper taped to the film and I'm able to fit it in the 35mm holder.

+Raychristofer unfortunately the V370 can only do 35mm film. You will need the V550 (which I now use) for 120 film
Thanks PT, is there a Flickr page we can see what results youre able to get after scanning. Im looking into trying medium format but I want to educate myself a bit before jumping in, thanks.
+Raychristofer Hi, no we don't have a flikr page, but have a look through our videos as we do have a few showing you the results you can achieve

Will this work with Catalina on a Mac
thank you Nathan.. :)
Does epson v370 has digital ice? if not how do you remove dust spots on the photos? :)
Which was the box for digital ICE?
How good is the quality of scanning photos?
Yes its very good as you can select the resolution

Just got it after some trial and error.
Thank you Nathan for your timely response!
Was getting frustrated with my ignorance.
I'm getting the same problem. I'm hitting the "All" button and still getting just one file. How did you fix it?
I'm thinking of buying one. How fast do they scan because I have 10 rolls to go through and scan?
+Samuel Williams probably takes 6 minutes per strip. Depending on computers processing power
hi! how many megapixel do you get in your scan with this setup?
yeah this is crucial , the video was really informative except for this part, the colour and general reproduction from the negatives (even lighting for example) looks great and the Epson program fit for purpose but the only thing stopping me buying this and digitising all my parents and in laws slides and negatives is that I don't know the vague megapixels or resolution ballpark figure (e.g. 2500 by 2000 pixels) for each negative.

Tim Marshall ı want to buy this but ı saw your comment so what did you buy
Is there much difference between the V370 and the V550? Is the software ICE useful? Thanks.
Do you know if I can put a 120mm negative scan scanner film adapter?
I mean, if I buy one. Can i use it?
to scan 120mm film
No because the actual scanner light within the lid isn’t wide enough 😢
@@nathan_woodgate so I hav to buy v550 or something like that :(

My scans are coming out not in focus. I’m wondering how this could be adjusted? I’m sure my negatives are focused as I have done them on another scanner before and everything was ok. Anyway to help fix this?
There isn’t anyway of focusing these scanners. Sometimes you can raise up the negative holder using very thin wedges which sometimes can help if the negative is warped. I use a credit card under each corner
Nathan Woodgate Thank you, I’ll give it a shot 👍🏼
Does the scanner allow no auto cropping? I.e. can you include the borders of the film when scanning 35mm? Thanks!

HI! Do you know a trick to scan Advantix cartridge negatives with the V370 ? Would making a cardboard mask work?
how do I do it with Black and White 35 mm negatives?
PF Flyer You can leave the settings as they are and correct in post processing or if you want change the scan setting to monochrome
