Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing❣I was one of the no-believers, your home is looking tooo inviting and organised, and I doubted: is she REALLY knowing, what my problems are? Well, now I know toooo well! I was a jurist at court for a loooong time, quite well organised in my work, but as soon as I was at home, I only wanted to do 'nice things', which gave me my power back. Fortunately I LOVE cooking, gardening, painting, knitting, singing, playing guitar, learning languages, and my best talent is, to make things 'look nice', so it was never too bad, I never felt really lazy and I have a lot of cupboards to play hide and seek;-), but at the same time I felt like a big pretender, if you know what I mean... was never content with myself. Always when I travelled ( a lot!), it was a big problem to clean AND pack and of course I would rather die as leaving my house untidied... I found the flylady in the internet, made some routines and played around with her ideas, but because of the overwhelming amount of mails, i got the feeling, now I have not only clutter in my house but also in my mails.... Then I became sick, after some time I retired and everything became worse. Now I really couldn't do much. I even didn't enjoy travelling anymore...so I came back, read the uplifting book HIDDEN TREASURES, which some family members wrote for her, so far I remember, I saw some videos about the flylady system. Not everything is for everybody and it REALLY began again with your videos and then with flylady Kat's, while I was sick for some months. I grew up in a cluttered house and sometimes I thought, maybe it's kind of an unwished heritage...but I learned: it's my decision, how I live and even if I can't do much, I can do SOMETHING. And now I hope, you REALLY wanted to know all this, you can imagine, I don't speak a lot about that...because my second bigger talent is, to attract ONLY the nicest and tiediest girlfriends, you can imagine...they don't understand what I'm talking about, when they come over, I'm always well prepared;-). Thank you for 'listening', i feel lighter now! Monika

+Monika Marsollek Thank YOU for sharing your story, Monika! How funny that we both worked in court...plus I'm just the same on the the packing, travelling, etc. We have a lot in common! So nice that we don't have to pretend any more - we have found a workable solution 💖

I cannot even explain how much I appreciate you. I understand why you have so many followers....you have a sparkling personality, a gentle way about you., and your content is fun and interesting (winter swimming!!) I also enjoy your outfits each day. I learn about recipes, wardrobe, Denmark, hygge, and today I found out about your personal life: where you worked and how you started fly lady. I have found a treasure and it is YOU!!! Thank you for putting in the time and effort in making these cheery videos. About cleaning: I enjoy it so much that for a time I had my own residential cleaning service. Now that I am nearly 75 I use the fly lady principles because everything gets done in a timely manner and I seem to accomplish more with less work, as you stated. Bless you and your family Diane. You do bring a ray of sunshine into my little corner of the world.

Diane, I've just found your Fly Lady videos. Last winter (I retired from teaching at 59) I found I was blessed with several free hours to fill each day. I began a decluttering project and learned how to make a quilt, all thanks to wonderful people like you, on RUclips. It was a very productive winter and spring. Then came summer and I fell off the productivity wagon. I've become so lazy ! Now that I've found your video I feel like I'm ready to get back on track. Your wonderfully supportive manner is so encouraging and comforting. Thank you so much for the help you are kindly offering to all of us. It's a blessing. I'm in board! Love and thanks, from the state of Massachusetts in the U.S.A.

Flylady Diane, l became a flybaby December 2012. It was the best Christmas l had ever had in terms of stress and organisation. l was a stay at home mum with four boys born in six years and in truth, l worked like a slave while they were growing up. Our house was much admired for it's clean and tidy appearance however I WORKED LIKE A TROJAN to achieve it. How l wish l had found flylady sooner. my home is still lovely and so much less stressful to run. Our children are grown now with just one left but even when we have guests keeping the organisation going is so easy. l tell everyone about flylady, the system is so easy to follow and life changing. much love from Plymouth x

I'm so glad I saw this older video. I relate to your younger self so much. Thank you for what you said about continuing your routines even on the weekends. I take the weekends off and I get so stressed by Sunday afternoon because hardly anything got done, and come Monday I felt like I was just catching up. You have motivated me to keep at my routines over the weekend.
Btw, you're clothing and hairstyle at present makes you look much younger than this style from 3 years ago. I can definitely feel your upbeat energy in your recent videos!

Hi Diane. Thank you for your honesty. I found FlyLady a few years ago googling "housework routines" or something similar. I have to say that initially I found the system complicated - I tried to do all at once(surprise, surprise!), couldn't quite see how it all fitted together, then crashed and burned. I repeated this process about three times! Then I realised I needed to focus on the routines and clutter first, gradually introducing zones. I couldn't see how a weekly plan would work - like you, I was at home so could do errands etc whenever I pleased BUT how much time I save now by sticking to the weekly plan. It is enabling me to do the historical research and writing that I love. I do have clutter still - but it is in a couple of cupboards that I am working on. I have been a hoarder of stuff all my adult life. Now I find great peace of mind in letting it go. Sorry for the ramble Diane, but thank you so much for your efforts - they are very much appreciated! Xxx

Thank you for sharing your story! Back when my boys were babies I stumbled on the Fly Lady system and had started to get organized using the routines. Sadly over the years I let things slip and ended up back where I was. I very much know how it feels to be the super organized one at work and not so much at home. At work everyone lauds me for keeping the place up and running and have been dubbed 'The Font of All Knowledge' (which actually makes me feel incredibly stressed) but at home I have a lot of hidden clutter, things don't get done as often as they should and my washing is piled up in my bedroom. I often even tell people that outside of my home I can organize pretty much anyone and anything but am pretty hopeless at home! Welp, the other day I was talking to a friend of mine and recommended she look at Fly Lady and it hit me like a bolt out of the blue that I should be looking up Fly Lady again and get going! So, last Thursday I did just that and found your videos shortly thereafter. My sink is shining, I am up and dressed to shoes (on a Bank Holiday no less!), my notes are in place and I'm about to go take some time for myself. I am doing my dead level best not to just rush headlong into everything (isn't that one of the big hallmarks of being a SHE?) because I know if I do, then I will get overwhelmed and end up falling on my face but I know that if I slowly but steadily get my routines in place I will go from fluttering to flying! At any rate, sorry for the ramble, but I just wanted to say thanks for your videos and your willingness to share your knowledge with us as well as your encouragement! Keep flying!

I got the FlyLady book out of the library years ago, but when you try to read everything and jump ahead, it just becomes overwhelming. I found your 31 baby steps here and it was so refreshing to just get a little morsel of information each day. I started out well, and it was amazing what a difference just keeping the sink shiny makes. It lead me to keep the kitchen so much nicer that even my husband noticed and expressed his appreciation. I didn't do well at doing each step, so I need to go back and start again. For some reason, "get dressed to shoes" is a real stumbling block for me. I thought I could just skip over that. But I need to just do it and trust, and see what comes of it. I think I'll be surprised. Thanks so much for the encouragement. It's a wonderful thing you're doing for others here on your channel.

Thanks Flylady Diane, your video is just what I need right now. I've slipped out of doing my routines (particularly the morning routine) in the last couple of weeks, due to one thing and another, and am starting to get that 'overwhelmed' feeling that the whole house is a mess and everything needs doing! Having said that I've still been doing 15 mins in the zone most days and paperwork on 'desk day', which is something. I'm going to get back on track from tomorrow, as the routines really do make a difference. Thank you so much.

Thank you for this video, Diane! Three years after the fact is when I have watched it… To be honest I have never really tried the fly lady system. Maybe five or six years ago I watched a couple of her videos or somehow heard about her and maybe even your videos, and I remember cleaning my sink very well once or a couple of times maybe even, some awareness, but the discipline of the structures and making plans and everything just didn’t happen. Marie Kondo as well, that has been more something that I have done. Has born fruit as well, I very much appreciate that.
I guess I’ve come back to you or discovered you thanks to Dana the minimal mom, and this month anyway have watched your videos regularly and appreciated them and watched a couple more than just the clutter free January ones.
I am very much sensing that structures can be our friend, can decrease stress, having a couple of things that are just “automatic“...! Especially since lockdown I have been noticing that, just in my daily routine personally and also in my cleaning… Somethings are easy for me and I do them regularly like washing dishes or laundry, those things aren’t terribly difficult for me. But floors?! I avoid that very much. I do hand sweep certain bits once in a while, with some regularity. Anyway, I am doing a couple of other courses at the moment but I think in the not so distant future I’m going to check out the 31 baby step fly lady video series.
    Thank you!

Diane, I had to stop the video to comment. This resonated so much with me I can’t even put it in words. At work I am this super organized over-performer, at home I’m a disaster that can’t even find clean underwear to wear. My family also has this habit of hanging on to EVERYTHING. About two years ago I started therapy because I was suffering from depression and anxiety. Mostly from being overwhelmed, and still keeping unrealistically high standards for myself. Everything has to be perfect. Everywhere, every time. I tried several methods of decluttering and organizing, but it mostly just made me feel more overwhelmed because I never finished what I started. It was just too much. I discovered your channel a few days ago, and my God, what an epiphany it was! Apart from your beautiful soul and amazing personality, the FlyLady System just makes SOOOOO MUCH SENSE. I am exactly like you. I need rules to function. And by knowing that everything has its own assigned day and time... I can’t even tell you how peaceful that sounds to me and how much it eases my anxiety to have that knowledge. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these videos. I finally see a way to break the family clutter curse

Have five kids in a very smal house, 12 week pregnant and been so tired and overwelmed by all housework and so sad not feeling able to be the mum and wife I want! BUT! Then I found YOU!!! I am following your seven day challange, wich for me means cleaning the kitchen strate after dinner! Just by doing this I am now after 4 days back to doing morning and evening routine and I keep the kitchen clean all day! BIG, BIG difference!! We are moving in two weeks (to a big house!!) My "aha" moments:
    1. Clean up after myself as I go. Consistent momentum (Not harried) throughout the day.
    2. The timer helps so much. Things take waaaaay less time than I think (usually), and for those that take longer, I'm learning to stop after 15 min or so.

    Hello Diane!
I don't remember when I found the FlyLady, but I just found your videos a couple of weeks ago and they are such a huge encouragement!
I haven't ever been able to implement the FlyLady plan because, like you say, I tried to read everything I could find instead of getting started and then other times I would try to implement the whole thing at once and get overwhelmed. This time, my children and I are watching your baby steps series and we aren't perfect but I am seeing some big changes in our home and attitudes. An especially big improvement is in getting dressed in the morning. We homeschool and my oldest child always wanted to stay in pajamas, but with your encouragement she is getting better about getting dressed and realizing that it makes her feel better and puts her (and me) in a different mind set.
So thank you for taking the time to create these videos and to share the Fly Lady information in such an encouraging way!

Dear Diane, first I would like to thank you so much for your video's. They have helpt me a great deal. When I first heard about flylady i was realy resistent. I thought, I'm not going to do that! That won't work for me. But than I thought there was no harm in just trying the babysteps and see. Now I have just finnished the babysteps and it is a world of difference. My familie is finaly working with me. My husband (who is realy into clean, and i was really messy) is loving it so much. Emagine what that does to a family. So I'm so very happy that I have found your video and I'm going to watch more of them to get me going on the WHB and missions and so forth. I also really smile when you refere to the fact that you like to save money because you are scottish. I am from holland and that is also being said about us dutchpeople ;-) Oh one more thing. Yay, Lauren! Yes, we need to be consistent with our routines but keep them to an absolute minimum. One of the problems I often find that my ladies have (the ones I mentor at Flylady Premium) is making huge long lists. No-one has time for all that and, of course, when the list is soooooo long, we don't even start! ;-)

Ah, Bless your heart Diane. You're a gem of an example for the rest of us, as you are in the trenches of life too. I am guilty of getting off my routines lately while training for a marathon - the race is next week! and dealing with school stress with 2 of our kids etc. but picking routines back up this week. Diane, thank you so much for your encouragement. It's so easy to feel overwhelmed, so I appreciate hearing that is normal. I can totally relate to being organised at work and things being a mess at home. My work mates would often say that they could just imagine how organised my house was (lol). Well, I was determined they would never find out because they would have to call me Jekyll and Hyde. Thankfully I'm a FlyBaby now and I don't have to hide my home. Yay

Hello Diane, I've just found your channel and have been gradually going through all your videos, but this one touched me particularly. In the other videos I've watched so far, you seem so upbeat and smart and organised. Hair, clothes, make-up all done and a spick and span house. However, it's really inspiring and encouraging to hear you speak so honestly here about your own fallibility. I was always tremendously organised at work, people commented on how well I managed everything. I worked in a fast-moving Finance environment. But, as you say, it's easier at work because there are processes and limits. At home on the other hand it's endless and bewildering! :-) I'm doing the baby steps videos with you at the moment. I'm optimistic this will help. Thank you so much for all you do with these videos. They must take up a lot of your time but I'm sure other people appreciate it all as much as I do.

I found FlyLady when a Facebook friend liked a FlyLady post and it popped up on my page. I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to start the zones right away till I found your 31 baby steps videos! Oops. So far it has been going pretty smoothly. Even with adding in zone cleaning sooner than I should have. I still struggle with the 15 minute declutter everyday but, the main living spaces and my bedroom are almost completely clear of piles of stuff. I've got my routines down pretty good. The weekly plan gets a little out of sync sometimes. I'm working on that. My house hasn't been this dust free ever and for the last 13 weeks there haven't been dishes in the sink waiting to be washed. I haven't had to crisis clean when someone is coming over. The changes have been amazing. I just do what I can with the time I have and it seems to be enough. I guess I really wasn't doing anything because I didn't think I had enough time. I can't thank you enough for the videos, they have been a great help and support! Now I need to go fling my one item for the day! 😄

I'm so pleased to have found you Diane! I don't have anyone to share flylady ideas with, and I've struggled with stuff for as long as I can remember, since childhood. I'm excited about following the system properly this time though and not fall off the wagon. I can see clearly how this system WILL work and the mountain of ~30yrs+ isn't so intimidating this time around. We're nearly the same age, and I love Scotts, they have a good sense of humor 😄 and like a bit of a joke. I'm definitely holding onto your hand thru the baby steps. Thanks so much, Lisa from Australia

forgot to say, I was exactly like you at work ... super organised, everything at my fingertips, no problem to big, and my husband would always say why can't you do that at home? I guess because no one ever taught me how to do it. You get on the job training at work, but like you said, no manual for married life/home organisation. I think I'm going to make a control journal for each of my sons as a parting gift when they get their own places, so they don't have to work out what to do, hopefully by then I'll have set them a good example and they'll have a journal for backup in case they forget.

      Hi Lisa, (fellow Aussie)!
Great idea re setting up a manual for your kids. Despite trying to teach habits whilst at home, some kids just don't follow the expectations of them.. Admittedly my oldest is in the midst of her year 11/12 studies and I don't want to stress her out any more... A manual makes me feel much better knowing that they won't be so lost once they fly the coop. And - I am no longer a nagging mum :) Thanks! Helen

Thank Yuo so much! It's about the same here . .. my mum is like your dad was really! I never learned it any different from home and with kids and job I'm struggling...while at work people tell me how organised I am 😂 And as my daughter is starting school in a couple of weeks I really want to get into the routine before I am back to work because I think it will be a lot harder to start routines when you are stressed out. And it really helps so much to hear that your story was about the same because all around me there seem to be only people who do that kind of stuff naturally! 😘

When I first started watching Fly lady videos from different people. I have seen people who are very organized like you but i have also seen people so bad with clutter (not part of flylady - but use the system - or at least they claim to).. I watched a lady tell us how to do the zone with so much clutter in her kitchen, living room, dining room etc.. We all know the clutter has to go FIRST.. I would rather watch someone (like you) that is where we want to be and give us things to strive for.

Thank-you for your videos. I found the fly lady through HowJenDoesIt (She has a RUclips channel). I have been trying to follow her suggestions to keep the house clean and organised. I was not able to stay consistent and found it very frustrating. I would like a large portion of time and put my heart and soul into organizing my house or an area and then I would crash and burn because it never stayed clean and organised and I did not know how to keep up with everything. I have a large home and was overwhelmed. One day I typed in Flyllady on google and came up with her website which I found a little confusing and also overwhelming. I typed in Flylady on RUclips and clicked on your page because your face in the picture looked so happy and I loved your outfit. You were so sensitive and caring and gentle in your "Shine your sink" video. I started doing the dress to shoes, pick out your outfit the day before, make your bed in the morning, shine your sink and swish and swipe your bathroom. I could not believe the difference it made it my life! Just those simple little things. I also signed up on the FLylady website for the emails so I have been getting a lot of emails everyday from everyone with Flylady that writes it or the newsletters. I read those emails on my phone while I am waiting in line or for an appointment or have time on a Sunday morning. I really enjoy the community and your videos and the whole program. I would like to get more into it and really start organising my house but I will only do it 15 minutes at a time now. Thank-you so much for your help so far. In an attempt to get some control over all my "stuff" I looked at many videos about how to organize things and saw people purchase all sorts of storage containers and they seemed to think that was the only (or at least the best) way to deal with all the things we are drowning in. I saw Flylady and the "ah-ha" moment for me was when she said, "You can't organize clutter. You need to get rid of stuff." I first tackled my closet and grouped like items and found to my horror that I had 60 pairs of slacks. This came at a time when I had already retired and very rarely got out of the house except to go to church or to the store or to go out occasionally with friends. I needed 60 pairs of slacks like I needed a hole in my head and I immediately got rid of about half of them. Of course 30 was still too many so getting rid of some of them is an on-going process. I just found your channel today and have only watched two of your videos but I love your approach to the whole Flylady system. I subscribed and will gradually watch all of your videos. Thank you for your honesty in describing your own CHAOS. You have inspired me to get back onto the system again.

As much as I hate to admit it, my old way of cleaning (spasmodically and down to the last grain of sand) was fine before kids came along but it did NOT work after I became a stay at home mother to three children then later as a full-time working mother. I was stressed, overwhelmed, nervous and really wasn’t feeling like I was “doing life” well. The Flylady system and the methodology of Good Enough is Good Enough, Any Progress is Better Than None, Keep On Top Of The Basics, are making giant improvements in my home, my life and my family’s lives and I’ve seen this improvement in the first 3 weeks through daily routines and a few weekly home blessings. I am taking it slow and giving myself permission to ignore things I would normally be stressing about, as I will get to it when the time comes. I have a Plan!! I’m hoping I can help my three daughters with their future by introducing them to the FlyLady system, so they don’t go through the stress and anxiety I have dealt with. All the best to you all!! Keep going. And a huge thank you to FlyLady, yourself Diane and Steph (The Secret Slob) if she reads this. You ladies are a Godsend. xxx Christy xxx

I have always been a hard worker and brought up my children on my own while working full time. My home was always clean but lived in, ie never perfect. This was great. What you told about your past was a lot like I have been I feel like. I just found your videos and started the babysteps. I heard about the flylady before from she’s in her apron here on youtube. Also youtube suggested someone else’s video about flylady and I watched that resently. 😊

Diane: I believe you a very kind person and your passion for this system really shines through! No aha moment yet, however there have been many ha ha ha moments in our family decluttering still ongoing. Thanks for the encouragement!
