    Airedale Terrier:
Airedale terriers are highly intelligent and energetic dogs who make great family pets.
They excel at agility and love to hike. Learn more about living with Airedale terriers.
The largest of the terriers, the Airedale is a highly intelligent dog who is smart, loyal, and affectionate.
Airedales have plenty of personality and make great family pets who are gentle with children, love a good romp and play, but are highly protective of their home.
Their short, wiry coat is easy to care for, and while no dog is totally hypoallergenic, the breed is often more easily tolerated by those with allergies.
They are active and require a moderate amount of exercise. Airedales are a robust breed that usually live long, healthy lives.

I have had an Airedale for 10 years and never found anything that could be considered a con. He is the best!

On my 5th ( have 2 now a 12 and a 1.5 ) only my 5th is a barker. But only barks at any squirrels or birds that think they can run my fence line etc
      Great loving loyal smart dogs
I have mild asthma and never had an issue

@@chuckruckus3648 I have my first. He is a joy. Tonight, he was stubborn about eating. But sometimes that happens. I'm glad you love your Airedales.

We are on our 4th Airedale. They are crazy, fun adventurous and total comedians! His only job is to make us laugh which he does every day. They are very good minded with their humans. Little kids could get knocked over, but there isn’t a mean bone in his body! He also doesn’t bark much which is a plus. He only barks if something is going on that we should take a look at. Super smart! He gets bored, so have fun and they will too!.

We have had two different Purebred Airedales. One hated cats( we got him at 6-8 months from the Humane Society. The other we got at 9 weeks & loved cats & kittens. Both were wonderful family dogs, extremely intelligent. They were easy to train & both learned to open doors & cupboards on their own.

I have only had Dales and I'm not familiar with the other dogs in the terrier group. Dales were used to not only for vermin but also used to hunt both large and small game. They are highly versatile, and bred to hunt fur and water fowl. As a result, there was an early movement to transfer Airedales to the Working Group since they are working dogs but that never happened. Dogs, like people are individuals and have individual traits. They are active and generally not couch potatoes but I have heard some may be. Nevertheless they are intelligent, think for themselves and will independently solve problems. Despite they are not rated among the top intelligent tier of dogs but they will often run circles around other breeds that have higher listings on the intelligence scale. I believe they are really great dogs and frankly I do not understand why they are no longer a popular breed.

Airedales probably aren’t going to start a fight but they might end one.

They're absolutely fantastic at removing vermin from your backyard. My friend's Airedale turned his backyard into a gopher, mouse, rat, bird, and lizard massacre. They also love to play ball and lick feet.

Be warned--Airedales are so much bigger than any other terrier, but they still have that terrier personality. They don't realize this and will try to do things like fit into spaces suited to smaller dogs

Would an Airedale happily run with it's owner for around 10km a couple of times a week?

    • @chuckruckus3648

Work up to it. Runners forget that people train for it but their dogs haven't.

    Do airedales bark a lot

    • @cannoncolossus2449
      @cannoncolossus2449 2 года назад +2

They are vocal and active dogs. In adolescence, they require a lot of attention and exercise. Otherwise, they will become bored and may bark a lot. Otherwise, they are great watchdogs and will alert you by barking when someone knocks on the door, walks by the window, or at the mailman when they are delivering the mail. They tend to mellow out as the enter adulthood, but are still more active and vocal than many dog breeds.

Why do trainers and dog people NEVER, just be honest about the downside--of ANY breed? These are TERRIERS, no sir/mam, they do not want to "chase" your cat--they will tear it limb from limb. Geez.

One of our Airedales adored cats & kittens. He slept with them all the time. If they are raised with cats they can love them.

It just give it a small bite and a gentle shake, until all life has left the body of the prey 😉. Mine will try to chase our local (european)deer, if she got loose.

@@AllisonLansberry you got a point. Dacher got the highest bite rate, excluding the crazy micro dogs, who get away with everything BC they are just scared little things.
