That was some Bad Assery at its best son, great approach....Joe X. does this all so well. really enjoyed this vid. do these once in a while to cut some stress from your day..lol..brilliant Scabo
Testing to failure is something I could never do. As a designer and even a maker, it drives me crazy. So glad you didn't break it. I broke one knife on purpose and I still feel bad about it.
Eh if I buy it , which I did, and I break it while using or testing it then it is what it is. I just don't like breaking my stuff lol. But the truth is I don't think it would break from just using it. And I wouldn't feel right about breaking something by other means because that proves nothing
Dunno why people say its not a Viking axe. Looks like one to me ?! No matter how many expensive knives I own I still respect Cold Steel. Their stuff is built to last.
See this looks like complete fun to me and I want one now. Good job again Scabber. Seems like a smart move to adjust all your tools to your preferences. I wrap handles, I adjust the edges to my prefered angles, and yes I took a dremel to my rtak ii handle scales and even the tang to contour them for better feel and grip. I have hands the roughly same size as Dbad and those things were just bricks!
Thought you were having a Hulk Smash moment there at first lol. Definatly looks like it can take a beating. More designed as a chopper over a splitter kind of axe. Lots of penetrating power with it and the geometry lets it bite in deep as compared to a splitter that's more designed to wedge stuff apart. Good to see the handle held up as well as the blade. Thanks for the great vid Scab and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
I never told you that brother, but you look like the perfect Viking warrior to me , I do roleplaying with my computer where I play a Viking warrior, I’m not a warrior in a physical way but in my heart I’m a warrior, that’s why I respect all the veterans out there, take care my brother love ya
Damn that thing just looks like one hell of a fun time!! and im impressed with the blade only getting slight damage after that beat down!! Great video brother!!
This video had me sold after watching it for one minute of you destroying that steel drum. I’ve always been a fan of cold steel and they have a reputation for making functional, indestructible weapons. I always wanted a Dane axe and after watching this I know that I’d be able to do just about anything with it without fear of breaking it. I can’t wait to get mine in the mail! Badass video brotha!
It’s an awesome piece. I’m gonna take some length off my handle as well. I have ordered some leather to make a sheath for mine. Never done leather work before so it will be learning while doing. Assuming I am successful, I will make one for you as well brother and send it down. Awesome demo.
This was the weapon of choice for English Housecarls (the elite troops) when they went up against the Norman knights at Hastings, and there are depictions of them lopping off the heads of horses in one swing on the Bayeaux Tapestry.
I am an absolute history freak! These are insane weapons I am fascinated with them. I think one of the most famous accounts is of the lone berserker at Stanford bridge It is one of my favorite accounts
They would use these to break up shield walls because they could splinter a shield with a single blow. Even if you were wearing armor, a blow from this would shatter bones and make you combat ineffective or kill you outright. Terrifying weapon.
I often sit back and think about this year ferocity of this weapon I would not want to be on the wrong end of it of course it probably wouldn't matter for long lol
That’s pretty cool. That’s got a heck of a handle on it. I don’t care if it’s a Viking axe or Girl Scout axe,I wouldn’t want to face that thing in battle. Lol 👍
That looks like a lot of fun brother! Now I see how you get your frustration out after reading those trolls in the comments. Love those Cold Steel blades!
HOLY SMOKES BROTHER THAT THING IS BADASS!!!! YOU DIDNT TAKE IT EASY ON IT AT ALL!!!! DAMN THING IS A BEAST.... COLD STEEL AT ITS BEST!!! AWESOME REVIEW MY BROTHER!!! STAY SAFE OUT THERE!!!!
If you haven't already, get rid of the set screw. It will damage the handle over time. Then take some coarse sand paper and work the head end of the handle down, till it fits nice and tight. For some reason Cold Steel, built this axe, like a Tomahawk, that is friction fit onto the handle. If you are worried about the head coming off. Slot the top of the handle put the head on, then add a wedge, like a real axe. Other then that, good video. I will be getting said axe in about a week.
Looks like a damn cool axe, big man. Maybe a bit too big and unwieldy for me, though. You ever review the smaller version of this axe? That one seems like more my speed or maybe the bearded one
Absolutely brother cold steel brings Don't they old buddy I'm like you cold steel I believe is my most favorite all around kick ass knife and tool company you know what I'm talking about
Scab you went BEAST MODE on this damn thing, any more brutal would be inappropriate and in my opinion just trying to disrespct it. Hey if you didn't destroy the axe with this demnstration then it will definately do what I need it to do probably more! "Great Viking Axe?" well it looks to ME like a Viking axe but I am not a freakin' historian just a blade enthusiast, any way whatever right... #22aday until #0aday 🇺🇸💪🗡
Question regarding the axe handle: do you know of it uses the same diameter handle as their tomahawks and whether the hawks would fit in the same handle? I'm looking at doing something a bit different than most, for...reasons.
No brother this particular ax is much bigger and totally different than the tomahawks. I have probably 10 of their tomahawks and this handle is a good bit bigger
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors I am unsurprised. I was hopig to be able to convert a trail hawk to a shepherd's axe (what their axe head cane is based on). Guess I might just have to shape a whole handle myself. Thanks for the reply!
If I didn't see you cut through a steel drum and a cinder I wouldn't have believed it. That edge has so little damage considering what you put it through Scab. #22aday
on actual great axes the handles were shaped a little differently, tear drop, hexagon, octagon, rectangular - check out Scholagladiatoria channel here for some good info about these axes and swords from a historian and hema practitioner
I'm familiar with his channel. My channel is all demonstration it's what we do. One of the problems I run into when dealing with cold steel or condor although I love them both is the way they name their stuff they name it to sell which I don't blame them it's not for historical accuracy clearly lol but I do appreciate you watching brother thank you
@@choirboyzcutleryoutdoors no worries, it was looking like the axe was turning some when you were chopping, so that is why I brought up handle shape and historical accuracy
The dane axe what a beuty. I still like the shorts small ones for repeating hitting. The problem with daneaxe and a onehand axe with spike is they get stuck in sheilds and amor. And the daneaxe dont work in the viking shieldwall so when they went on raids they usely didnt bring the daneaxe. I still want one for my colection this supercool. I hope you dont think im to nerdy about my viking ansestors.❤❤❤ I think you are more viking then most of my fellow Skandinaviens. Kep em videos cumming
That is definitely tough enough. No worries about the name. Badassery
Pretty tough axe!!

My favourite axe design. The upswept thrusting horn makes it so versatile.

Can you imagine being an Englishman fighting Vikings armed with those axes? They could rip your wooden shield apart with those things.
The force alone would be devastating
