Cara was still at East Wind when I did my first visitor period. She really impressed me. I am all the more impressed after learning all the other things she'd done in community. It is interesting to hear the backstory to the end of the meta program from her perspective.
Please note that the bit about class in the "Highlights Intro" at the beginning is not part of a larger conversation in the interview. I liked it and so placed it there (first time, all other bits in the intro highlights are always parts of larger conversations throughout the various interviews). Thank you, Cara! I was there for the transition from the old, assigned labor system to WIMP and I don't remember Yo being prominent in that at all. I think Yo was shipping manager and rec manager. He did a good job as both. There was a group of people who had not been handing in labor sheets for some time, so it was clear the old system was not working. Something had to be done because it was causing quota to change radically from week to week: quota was mainly based on how many hours the HX manager requested. A committee was appointed to make revisions. I can't remember exactly who was on that committee: Will, Nina, probably Bret, and Mark (Estraven). Seems like Laurie was on it too at one point. Nina was the labor manager at the time, but she got pregnant and she resigned. There was a meeting and WIMP passed mainly because of the two week labor credit bonus. Everybody went, "Yay, two free weeks. Bring it on."

Thanks Sorrel!
May 9th! Counting down the days until I get to experience East Wind!
Don't forget to reach out for an interview if you feel the urge!
I will reach out! Looking forward to us meeting.
Me too! See you there!

Really valuable interview! The insights about the Meta Program and group child rearing are super interesting.
Also ... Yo passed away?! Wow! I am glad I got to meet him in 2012 and again last September! What a memorable character!!
Oh wow. As someone whose only connection to east wind is a couple years of RUclips "research", that must be a large impact to the community.
Really interesting period and view to hear about! Thanks for posting another great chat!

At the very end the video the photo of folks in front of the yellow van - correction: that is Michael NIcosia. (not Otto).
Thank you for pointing this out, I could see Otto and at the same time had my doubts. Added a correction.
Thanks! Absolutely remember that now!
