- Sky's Cordelia Lynch was on board a Philippine coastguard boat when it was doused in water fired by a Chinese vessel.
The attack broke the roof of the coastguard boat and left journalists onboard drenched.
The incident happened in the disputed South China Sea.
Experts warn the sea is becoming a flashpoint between China, the US and neighbouring nations such as Japan, the Philippines and Taiwan.

it's not in "undisputed waters", it's in the Philippine Economic Zone. The PCG are well with in their rights to be patrolling that area because it belongs to the Philippines.

With so many western reporters' covering the Filipinos can not get responses from the international community.
This is only bringing to light an issue that has been evolving over recent years.
One afternoon about 3 years ago, while I was working as a teacher of English in China, my local colleagues were all called to a meeting one afternoon for a new government policy to be unveiled. From a colleague whose spouse had shown it, I saw a map at which they've insisted that their ownership/ control of the South China Sea, went literally up to the shore of surrounding countries, in effect covertly tearing up all international maritime agreements and conventions. That is what the international community is up against.

West Philippine sea is just the EEZ near the coast of the country. South China Sea is the sea that has ALWAYS been shared by multiple southeast asian countries and was treated as an international trade route even during the colonial period where even Europe had no records of China ever owning that sea nor anyone living there. The hague ruling concludes that no one owns the sea and that China’s historical claims are not proven to be credible or rather they were not backed by facts.
Duterte tore up the hague decision in exchange for investment promises that ch didnt keep. The Filipino people supported Duterte passionately and praised ch while breaking ties with the west. These are the consequences.

It's within the 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zone of the PH, and some 900 nautical miles away from China. It's not the entire South China Sea but it's the West PH sea where Filipino fishermen, navy and coastguard are peacefully sailing but China the territory thief continues to harass them and cause very provocative actions. Not just PH, but China has so many territorial disputes with almost all neighboring countries. From Taiwan, Japan, even Hong Kong was forcefully taken by China, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Tibet, Pakistan, Kazakhtan, Mongolia, Russia, etc. China the territory thief needs to be stopped. It keep on talking about regional peace and stability but their actions don't match their words. Actions speak louder than words, China is the one causing regional tension. the PH has been very patient with China, China needs to stop or face the consequences of its actions. Historically, Geographically and legally, China has no claims over the West PH sea and other areas it is claiming. China's claims are as fake as their man made islands built in PH waters. In the case of the Philippines, we're talking about the 200 - mile exclusive economic zone of the Philippines according to the UNCLOS, not islands. The Chinese coast guard ships are within 125 miles of the Philippines coast, and legally, should really have no basis even being there.

UN Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) was ratified by BOTH China and Philippines. These (1) grants rights to their respective EEZ and (2) binds both countries to respect other countries’ EEZs (3) to peacefully resolve EEZ issues thru the UNCLOS Tribunal.
Philippines is NOT laying claim on that it is protecting its territory, that is Philippine waters only few miles from a Philippine island
