"I needed you like you needed me. People they need piano keys." That extended piano run right after that lyric always makes me feel a little dirty but completely satisfied.
Reminds me of Gram Parsons. I can't say I got much into these guys in their respective groups.. But Monsters of Folk is genius. I fell in love with it the moment I started listening. Kudos to the musicians.
Met this band backstage at the Bridge School 2009 show at Shoreline Amphitheatre...Not only are these guys amazing artists...they are great people. My family and I appreciated their conversation and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for the kindness they showed us! Jim and Molly we thank you!!!!
I'm so glad this group came together, I could never imagine not listening to their music, because it's absolutely amazing! and the cool thing is that I actually listened to My Morning Jacket, M. Ward and Bright Eyes before hearing about MOF. this band is absolutely fantastic, and they're definitely one of the best supergroups EVER
Was right behind you a couple rows, best show ever!! I'm a die hard Conor Oberst fan but will be investing in some My Morning Jacket tunes after this :)
monsters of folk=modern day traveling wheelburys. NOT eagles, simon & garfnkl and certainly not jefferson airplane. not that these bands are not accomplished, just that conor oberst is a f'ing genius. the other three "monsters" are equally accomplished in their own rights. having them together is an all star band~
One of my favorite songs of the album and my go-to song to include on compilations. I know they have a problem with being compared to some similar sounding past acts (inevitable as it may be), but this song has a wonderful Byrds sound to it. Particularly the stuff they did with Gram Parsons.
Other than find solace in doing what you love and being with those you love, that's "the right place" for an individual. And as all of their other songs refer to the sadness they still feel for whatever reason, surely you can accept this as being at the very least a reaction "every one gets dark", "everyone gets lost in their own fog" and those "lantern" dreams...that "right place" can be found in the bliss of enveloping yourself in something you take pleasure from...i.e making this album.
Conor sang a song at the show in Santa Barbara..never heard it before. Im trying to figure out what it was. Reminded me of Lua sorta. it was pretty damn magical.
No, never heard of Fleet Foxes, until right now! I enjoyed Grown Ocean. I know most people don't like comparisons; this band sounds like that band. On and on, but I did get a bit of a Jefferson Airplane/Simon and Garfunkel vibe. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks for sharing.
Conor does appear happy with Monsters of Folk. It's not that I don't like it. It's that it isn't Bright Eyes. He said he was putting on last album out this fall though, I'll look forward to it.
meh the things that followed bright eyes that conor was in a.k.a "conor oberst and the mystic valley band" and now "Monsters of Folk" is basically bright eyes with fewer people, but for the most part the same musicans. and influences. Bright Eyes had never ended in a sense.
I caught them by accident on Austin City Lights, just this past sunday, I thought they had just a touch of the "dead" sound. Oh, when I say accident I mean I fell asleep in the lazy chair and woke up to them. Usually I don't listen to music like this, but something is wrong with me....I really like it. Never heard of MOF...How long have they been around?
i think its a great video, we get to see everyone do their thing. all with sick beards. what more can you want. an attempt to be artsy with actors and such?
much love and positive blessings to you cavetunes. loving people live in a loving world. Hostile, hateful people live in a hostile, hateful world. Same world. Love to you...
@Steverichparker I don't really see how he is affecting the band negatively. Do too many people like him? Possibly. Is he not quite as instrumentally varied as the rest of the group? Possibly. But he works. He's great at guitar and is getting much better at singing. Plus his lyrics oftentimes straddle the line of genius (in my opinion).
bazzlebass, man, i didn't read monad's thing, but i have that problem. i don't think i am a bad guy, but i guess by objective definitions i really am. this is my real name by the way. i am really lonely and the internet is a shitty place to look for friends. have you guys seen "there will be blood"? i felt like the writer had actually somehow spied on my thoughts when day-lewis lays it all out, about how he doesn't want anyone to succeed but himself. so jealous
i guess anyone emo should associate this as an alternative supergroup, filled with some fallout boy, or back further the juliana theory, some starting line or say anything maybe because of madness, a little dashboard confessional, further seems forever, and then some pedro the lion to even out the mix, blasphemous rumors or something cheeky like that
this is a great album, other than Magic Marker. it's really hard to say this about some of my favorite musicians, but that song is kind of wack. waiting for them to come to austin. m. ward and jim james by themselves would do, too.
The first verses basically ask "are you happy," and the last verse says "I am happy." That's obnoxious. If someone acted like that in a conversation you might think they were rubbing their happiness in your face.
@handicappeddoilookok It doesn't matter whats going on in the song. Its folk music, don't get your hopes up for much more man. Its about the music, and its good music. If you want your mind blown listen to some Phish. Yeah, Oberst doesn't play like Trey Anastasio, but that does not make him a shitty guitarist. I also have a beard.
yeah this album is great, it's totally a masterpiece , I hope they do a monsters of folk 2 someday
"I needed you like you needed me. People they need piano keys." That extended piano run right after that lyric always makes me feel a little dirty but completely satisfied.
Isahiyella That’s the perfect description of how it feels hahaha I always wait for that piano part after the line
Reminds me of Gram Parsons. I can't say I got much into these guys in their respective groups.. But Monsters of Folk is genius. I fell in love with it the moment I started listening. Kudos to the musicians.
This album is a masterpiece, start to finish.
"I like what I'm seeing when I'm looking at you"
*faints*
You know your a great band when the best guitarist in the group is playing bass.
This song is so beautiful. From thailand
This album has given me a new outlook on life.
I love Oberst and Ward, and now I'll have to check out My Morning Jacket. This album is phenomenal.
These dudes rock!!!!! Too much talent man, too much. The whole album is the shit
If it wasn't for Sally Fothergil I would never have known how brilliant Conor Oberst was heh
great to hear your comments jaxtraw51 .. they describe everything i'm hoping to experience at their upcoming toronto show... can't wait!!!
I love watching Conor Oberst grow musically throughout the years : D
I'm so glad this group came together,
I could never imagine not listening to their music,
because it's absolutely amazing!
and the cool thing is that I actually listened
to My Morning Jacket, M. Ward and Bright Eyes

You guys getting together is just amazing
Was right behind you a couple rows, best show ever!! I'm a die hard Conor Oberst fan but will be investing in some My Morning Jacket tunes after this :)
God, I cannot get over how good this song is.
I needed you like you needed me. People, they need piano keys *cue piano* best part. : )
Love the groove. Retro sound, but refreshed.
Jim James is seriously the closest you can come to looking like a lion without actually being one, I love it
3:10 conor looking at you while
'i like what i'm seein'
when I'm lookin' at you . .'
seeing these guys next month in london...cannot wait!!!
where have i been the last six years?
Going to the Louisville Halloween show. Got a good feeling it's going to be great.
I'm from Brazil and I love it .. it's a pity what monsters of folk isn't much popular in my country
great music ,great songs, just beautyful wach them live if you can and you will be glad you did it forever
Thats it! I couldnt place quite where.. Not quite FBB or his solo. Definitely Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Good call.
wow conors vocals are amazing

Deb Martin So criminally underrated and unknown too. It’s a damn shame. People are missing out.
Such a positive song with such stronge message! :D! makes me smile!
One of my favorite songs of the album and my go-to song to include on compilations.

awesome video!
Conor sang a song at the show in Santa Barbara..never heard it before. Im trying to figure out what it was. Reminded me of Lua sorta. it was pretty damn magical.
brilliant.
WOW. What a phenomenal track :)
conor oberst is best with bright eyes but love it!
Kombucha! My favorite flavor is the Multi-green.
in certain clips yes
@Jbeauxs and Chuck Ragan, Andy Hull, and Dustin Kensrue. GOD. THAT WOULD BE JUST SOO MUCH GREATNESS
i seriously cannot wait much longer. thank god they'll be in atl tomorrow!!!!! im long overdue for a reunion with yimmy...
Want to see them live :O
Please Conor, don't leave Bright Eyes for this
yes
Two fuckin' thumbs up man. These guys kill it! I'm slightly irritated at having to miss the Phoenix show.
Keep on keepin' on!
they sound sorta like the eagles on this track to me....good video keep up the good work!
Yeah I hear you. the entire feel is totally different than like a casadaga type album.
Fav band!! all star team :D
Thanks for sharing.
his voice has gotten stronger since his stage falling incident.
oh man, let em be happy
oh yes!!!! YES!!!
There are 11 people who are not in the right place.
These guys are like a modern day Crosby, Still, Nash, & Young. (It's a good thing!)
If you like M Ward and Jim James together.....we are still waiting.
definitely reminds me of The Traveling Wilburys....
But it sounds great.......
I'm seeing them Wednesday in PHX i hope they play this song!!!
M. Ward, Jim James, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis
Conor does appear happy with Monsters of Folk. It's not that I don't like it. It's that it isn't Bright Eyes. He said he was putting on last album out this fall though, I'll look forward to it.

i think its a great video, we get to see everyone do their thing. all with sick beards.
what more can you want.
an attempt to be artsy with actors and such?
ok correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Coner the lead vocalist of this song on the album ... i like this version just as much.
@shaniaimaribourne .... i don't know. but that's jim james you're talking about, lmfao. i also couldn't believe how much he looked like him :P
A bit of Gram, a bit of Bob, kinda nice.
I love this and I also have a beard. I am also a big fan of Trey AND Neil. :)
@RunyonGrn07
yeh, with a bit of chris hillman in there too...
ok i was tripping, i thought i was leaving a comment on the Temazcal video. i know i'm right there. Coner def sings it on the album.
much love and positive blessings to you cavetunes. loving people live in a loving world. Hostile, hateful people live in a hostile, hateful world. Same world. Love to you...
Zoey has a great voice.
best "supergroup" since the dirty mac?
its like the four gospels coming together to make one super great gospel
m. ward, jim james, and mike mogis,
I hear Traveling Wilburys
great album!
@Steverichparker I don't really see how he is affecting the band negatively. Do too many people like him? Possibly. Is he not quite as instrumentally varied as the rest of the group? Possibly. i'll be in the right place in about 5 minutes let me get the bong out
thats funny i didnt notice her vocals in the song
this is the album version
Yim Yames (Jim James)
bazzlebass, man, i didn't read monad's thing, but i have that problem. i don't think i am a bad guy, but i guess by objective definitions i really am. this is my real name by the way. i am really lonely and the internet is a shitty place to look for friends. have you guys seen "there will be blood"? i felt like the writer had actually somehow spied on my thoughts when day-lewis lays it all out, about how he doesn't want anyone to succeed but himself. so jealous
Which member sings this song>
jim's voice is hauting live.......especially in massey hall
@ThuLarryR unfortunately he already said he is pretty much done with bright eyes. ×tear×
So Far Out
@TheDwgillis Jim James of my morning jacket
Does anyone know what happen to this band?!
@jamesDSwinney check out all their individual bands. M. Ward, She and Him, Bright Eyes My Morning Jacket :))) all super goooooooood
Only person they're missing is Ace Enders.
i guess anyone emo should associate this as an alternative supergroup, filled with some fallout boy, or back further the juliana theory, some starting line or say anything maybe because of madness, a little dashboard confessional, further seems forever, and then some pedro the lion to even out the mix, blasphemous rumors or something cheeky like that
whose vocals?
Hmm, who is playing the drums? never see any drums in these videos. ????
@banjotune22. nope. mmj eats MOF for lunch dinner and breakfast, every hour, every day of the week.
this is a great album, other than Magic Marker. it's really hard to say this about some of my favorite musicians, but that song is kind of wack. waiting for them to come to austin. m. ward and jim james by themselves would do, too.

haha yeah man, jim james is the 13th disciple.
@NasEscobar1 They are also really good friends :D
@shaniaimaribourne you're kidding, right? :p
