What did you do about the bottom?

Don’t mean to hate but you had basically a new griddle top and totally seasoned it wrong. Why rush seasoning it with so much oil. Way to many puddles and you didn’t even get the back or sides of it. Thin layers with a paper towel not a spatula. Come on man

how much did it cost to get it sandblasted?

Suggestion. Paint the underside of the griddle with paint that is use on a regular grill. It stands up to heat. And protects from rusting. I would paint the entire bottom and the outsides of the griddle, that you see.

Question, what prep would you do before painting the underside of the grill?

Try polishing after sandblasting. Then season but at lower temperature and with less oil. Polished surface has stronger resist to rust.

the sand from the sand blasting doesn't make to big of holes does it?

when they sand blast I believe it's actually beads (they just call it sand blasting) and you take hardly anything off...if there are any divets made with the "sand" the layers of seasoning that you do will fill this in...I did this to my griddle, and it did feel a little rough after getting it sand blasted, but after I added like 5 layers of seasoning it's like brand new, and smooth.

Looks great.... but damn.... I'd never let my griddle get to the point of almost dry rotted like that. 🤦‍♂️

Yeah, that definitely seemed like a few years worth of ignoring it.

Or just sitting out in the rain. Mine isnt bad @ all in comparison. Thinking of using a vinegar solution to help ger her back to new

@@shehateme9955 Absolutely right, vinegar will do the exact same or better. Without having to go thru all the troubles.

I would have painted the back with some good high temp paint, washed the top with dawn and then seasoned it.

Who would have thought, 🤔 that the easiest way to do something is to get someone else to do it 🙄

4:07 you can tell he put too much oil at the back of the griddle. I know cuz I've done it before....it doesn't turn black if you let it puddle.

bacon is the one thing you don't want to cook first on a griddle. I can't remember why, I just know it's suppose to be another meat.

Any olive oil that is in a small plastic jug like that is cheap. If its in glass then it the good stuff!

You're not supposed to use olive oil at all. Never use olive oil to season a piece of cookware, the smoke point is far too low.

If you use seed oil(canola, peanut, corn or cotton) you might as well use motor oil. Seed oil is very bad for your health. Use avocado, ghee or tallow oils they have a high smoking point and are healthier.

Unfortunately I don’t know anybody with a 30,000 dollar sandblaster in a shed out back not very practical or useful for someone trying to do it the normal way.

For near the same cost, you could have just bought a brand new griddle top.

Not exactly. I got an estimate for 40$ to sandblast. Thats a lot cheaper than replacing the top
