I love my alone time and don't like working with others too much. I love freelancing.

I work remotely which is similar to the "lonely freelancer", and this is what I do:
make use of meetup.com - find some common interest group and get out and mingle with folks that share common interests.
this can revolve around tech, hobbies, music, religion, etc... this is a good place to start if you live in a fairly large city.
other options could be community service (you are not above that! - and it is very self-gratifying), join a church.
and my personal note of warning: be wary of cults and manipulating people - the human condition has a sort of requirement for personal contact and social connection; when you are short on that, you crave and desire it to some extent, which makes you a little more "vulnerable" to such things... (just saying... )

How to avoid being a lonely freelancer? 1. Rent a spot at one of those workspace places, 2. Work at a coffee shop with WiFi, 3. Hang out at a gentlemen's club with some of that sweet developer cash, 4. Use your advanced AI skills to build a robot GF.

I’m not a freelancer but I work from home so is basically the same. And yes it’s very lonely to me sometimes.

Shared workspaces are great. Just a little amount of interaction, coming and going when you want, some social stimulation. Chit chat at the cooler. A little networking.

I used to do my work in public libraries. I pick and choose the ones closed to my friends/relatives/loved ones so we can meet during lunch or after work for drinks etc. Public libraries are great because they are free with wifi and their quiet environment makes you more productive. Some cities have really beautiful ones and in nice locations.

Also, join a martial arts gym like jiu-jitsu, it will satiate a deep tribal need which will fulfill you socially in ways you could not imagine and get fit at the same time.

I've been struggling with this as I am working on setting up my business. The problem was I'd get lonely so I'd go out and run errands, go for walks, but then I'd not be spending enough time working. I've decided to buy an ipad so I can start working in cafes again, since my laptop has broken. It's important to find the balance between working quietly at home and getting out, because if you spend too much time alone you can get depressed but if you go out too much you can be unproductive and not meet your goals.

If you find yourself constantly around others and feeling depleted, make sure to schedule some healthy alone time. If you find yourself predominantly alone or are feeling lonely, make sure to invest more time seeking meaningful social connections. Whether you are an introvert or an extrovert, it is important to find the right balance for you. It is important to distinguish between healthy time alone, where we are being productive, creative and introspective, versus negative time alone, where we are being self-critical or feeling lonely.

Heh not a freelancer, but I do work at home full time, my teammates scattered across the country. I LOVE IT. Kind of asocial anyways. But I do feel compelled to go to cafes and coffee shops for some human contact, more than might otherwise be the case.

Organise get togethers in your local area for ppl interested in the programming language ur into. There are also technology charities that help ppl access to internet and technology. Get involved and u can even get ideas, plug any ideas or products/services u want to sell etc.

This guy obviously hasn't experienced being the new kid on the block in an office setting. Being the new kid many times. I remember having to beg for everyone's cooperation to get anything done. On top of that, if you need information. They lie to you. About everything. Just for amusement. Because you're new. And you know nothing. With some people, there literally has to be blood shed to get any respect at all. I hear this and I can't stop laughing. As far as my feelings about past co-workers. If any of them were in the electric chair. I'd gladly volunteer to flip the switch.

Learn a new skill or become really expert in yours and left your job. There are a lot of skills that you can even dominate witouth a degree, like 3D (my job), Vfx, animation, video editing, coding, teaching guitar,...
Even if you start with less money, it's really addictive and rewarding growing by yourself
