Your vid is 4 years old yet just as useful today as it was when you made it! Love the yankee ingenuity!!! Headed for the dollar store a little later today. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom!!!
Jim, Great idea. I used your idea to form a loop block using a solid block of high-density form. Works great! You continue to make some great videos. Please continue! Joe Nicklo
Hey Jim, good idea. Tippet spools that are foam make a good one too. Just cut out the size you want I make them rectangular and make a long slit, then a short slit perpendicular so it makes a cross. Then if you have short feathers use the short cross and if you have longer feathers use the longer slit. Your idea works equally well. I made a magnum one because the magic tool is so expensive I was gifted the regular size and use the magnum block like yours. I can mix any dubbing with the cdc if it is all stacked together before being pushed in together. All the best, Sean
Sean, I'm sure they would but I have never seen a tippet spool that was made of foam. Everyone in the 30 years I've been fly fishing have all been hard plastic.
Oh, I have a few, but they are from a company out of the UK. I am not sure what the name is off hand but I will investigate. I didn't get the tippet on it, I got them from a friend and used them for that. I thought many of them were foam because as you know, I haven't fished yet any of my own flies because of my commitment to home. I will ask my buddy what the brand is. I assumed they were tippet, it may be some other material but it sure looks like a tippet spool. Thanks Jim for the clarification. All the best, Sean
Jim, a good cheap answer to the Magic Tool. It accomplished the same results for a lot less money. The beginner tier doesn't understand that you don't have to spend a fortune to buy tools. The home made tools can do the same thing for a lot less money and make beautiful flies.
Hi Tommy, Thanks for the kind words. The clip is a potato chip bag clip. Just make sure you get ones that are smooth jawed, no teeth. I found mine at a Dollar store 6 for a buck.
Hey Jim. I should have read all the comments, would have had my answer. Never the less, the comment still stands and I learned a good thing from you. I'm going to start paying more attention to you.Tommy.
I've been using mine for a week and I love it!
Great to hear!

Hello Jim. Even tho I'm a few yrs. late I thank you for this really smart technique. Where do those clear blue clips come from? Tommy.
