@@leobourbonnais Hey, wouldn’t be cool to seen an M-Tron version to Mars Mission (6-wheel) Mobile Drilling Unit? Along side it M-Tron’s Celestial Forager?
@22:00 my friends, those are not fuel hoses! They are water hoses! What you guys in America don't know - because they've removed the backstory from the backstory in the American catalogs - is that M:Tron is a rescue faction! In the other countries' catalogs the sets have names with "rescue" and "recovery". And they describe fire houses and water canons. Don't know why LEGO decided to change the backstory for the American market :( M:Tron are actually the heroes of the universe ;)
The thing I like about these older sets is not only are the models cool - but they are made of standard pieces and colors, so the pieces are very useful when MOC building - newer sets have so many odd shaped pieces and colors and so few real bricks and plates that it is harder to make stuff out of one set.
I collected the Classic Space theme as a kid (still have them) in the late 70's and early 80's but drifted into my Dark Ages period around 1985 (until 2018). I love learning about all these themes that I missed out on. M Tron would have been right up my ally. Great color scheme. Thanks for the great content.
My story is very similar to yours my friend except I quit Lego in 1987 due to pressure from my parents saying I was too old to be playing and collecting Lego and didn't seriously get back into Lego until 2014 so unfortunately I missed out on a lot of amazing space themes such as Blacktron and the ones featured here M-Tron which I know I would of been really into. Great video from these guys I must say.
Love M:Tron and would love to see an Ice Planet 2000 episode like this. I have all the space themes from C.S. thru Insectoids so this really pulls at my heart.
Cool stuff, and great T-shirt, thank you both! Iceplanet 2002 is my all time favorite, most of the old Space Police I and II sets are also great. Blacktron II and UFO was okayish for me.
That nose piece mold was first used in 1986 for the Classic Space theme and last used in 2000 for the Arctic series. The M:Tron Super Model was a mail order set you could get from the Lego catalogue. It came as three sets in their retail boxes and a set of loose instructions for the actual Super Model.
M:Tron was solidly in my Lego dark ages, so it's fascinating to get an in-depth perspective from someone who loves the theme. Now I'm thinking I need at least one M:Tron set to be a part of my Classic Space display.
My justification for the lack of airtight canopies on smaller craft is that it's actually not needed if you have a suit with life support systems (symbolized by the air tanks) since there is no air resistance in space. If you're not doing any atmospheric re-entry all you need is a little shield in front of you to block any random space debris. It's actually more efficient since you only need to seal your suit, not the whole interior of the ship.
Set 6923 was called 'Gyrocopter' in the Netherlands, and in the magazines they consistently spelled "M:TRON" with capitals and a colon. The 'radar' piece is fairly common actually, including city/town sets (I recently looked it up for ... reasons)!
Commenting again a year later, I recently got the box to the Mega Core Magnetizer. In the U.S. that set was indeed called the Multi Core Magnetizer, that is the name emblazoned on the side of the box. U.S. boxes always had the set name printed on the side of the box while European boxes did not. And in the U.K. the Particle Ionizer was called the Cosmicopter!
One piece that stuck out for me on Beacon Tracker was that black 2x2x1 sloped brick with yellow vent stripes as oppose to what could’ve been an identical red sloped brick with black vent stripes as screen in other Mtron sets.
So to get the full “complete” Mtron sub theme you’d have to get double on Particle Ionizer, Celestial Forager & Vector Detector for that special build plus as their own individual builds.
Go figure! We don’t see those size space wheels till around late 2000 with Mars Mission’s mobile base/drilling unit but in orange. Sadly we don’t ever get to see a revamp on those vintage quarter wedge domes. 😢
I had the smallest set in the middle as a kid and totally dreamed of having those sets. Some friends had some of the sets but it took me to overcome my dark ages to collect them all and now I could make a display similar to this. Although I don't know what's up with the one on the left :D
Tron movie was 1982 Didn't think M Tron had a hyphen or colon in the name. Thought it was a graphic representing the M connected to Tron by a magnet. Interesting debate....
That 6-wheeler is the best ever! Got it when I was young and I remember enjoying it a lot and creating mocs around it.
The Mtron mobile base is Mega Core Magnetizer.

Having a reef tank the uv/blue lights really bring out certain colors of lego. I love the trans neon orange stuff from ice planet
The radar dish (23:55) was also used in the blacktron 6-wheeler set 6933.
M- Tron vs Black- Tron... lol, great video guys. Nive collection Daniel.

@32:48 the red rail appeared a long time before that in 1988 in the "Metro Park & Service Tower" (set 6394-1).

Love these videos.Great info for people that have not been collecting for that long.

Awesome video! My favorite was always ice planet 2002. Live the theme and colors. Second favorite are space Spyrians

Great collection! Thx 4 the knowledge Daniel! 💌
Still have of these from when I got it as a kid.

Maybe you can talk about western theme as well?🏜🐎🧨💰🤠

Judging by your logo we shouldn't divulge this information to you!

Space Police II also lacks a base, they had two very large vehicles, the Galactic Mediator and the Solar Snooper
Interesting you said repair-I've used the minifigs as my maintenance team due to the "M" in a space moc I made
Tron movie was 1982
Didn't think M Tron had a hyphen or colon in the name. Thought it was a graphic representing the M connected to Tron by a magnet. Interesting debate....
I actually have a pair of those big wheels in white
I wonder if the Particle Ionizer uses its thrusters in space and the helicopter function in the atmosphere? 🤔
Daniel, your collection is amazing. There's only one big thing that gets forgotten from 90's... zack the lego maniac needs to come back.
I have an ice planet snowspeeder i bought on etsy
I don’t think they demonstrate how the Mega Core Magnetizer crane can tilt up and back to set things on the ground.
July 9th 1982 is when the movie tron first came out.
Hot take. M-Tron was initially going to be space fire fighters.
Or an m tron walker
space.
Aquanauts is the best space theme!
