  • This time, I am doing a special watch restoration of a legendary Roskopf model, “La Prolétaire” from 1867.
    This pocket watch has a remarkable history. In this video, I tried to make it closer to you.
    I worked on several issues during this watch repair:
    👉 Dial had hairlines, I conserved it,
    👉 The glass was damaged, I replaced it,
    👉 The mainspring was broken, I replaced it,
    👉 Somebody recreated the minute hand ornament because the original decoration was cut off. It didn’t seem good enough to me, so I made a new ornament that resembles the original one better.
    If you liked the video, please like and subscribe to support my work, and let me know what you think about this watch restoration in the comments below the video.

    I ha e the great pleasure to find Le Prolétaire in a little market in Madrid. This is a very elegant, massiv, heavy, beautiful sound, a genius watch! Thank you Mr Roskopf!

    There is a certain beauty in this piece’s simplicity. And you brought it out.

    I visited Madrid's Rastro market fifty years ago, that's where you could find Roskopf watches. Although never in perfect condition, they were everywhere and I managed to find an early 1867 model which I still have.

    Although Roskopf began manufacture in 1860’s, they were made for 75 years, so dating is difficult.

    Fabulous and every one of these treasures you restore is saved for the future. Well done and thanks for sharing.

    What an interesting historical background. You can tell a lot of the parts are stamped with little or no machining and the movement has no adornment presumably to keep costs down. I really like the classy patina look that the dial cracks offer.

    @rockbod 3 года назад +2

    I like that you actually made the replacement parts yourself. Denture cleaner works great on those old dials by the way, cleans the cracks too.

    I always remember the Roskopf for it's swooping ratchet design. On some the balance staff was so tall. Mind you that may have made it better to replace. Wonderful job and a real joy to see a true work man at the bench.

    It's a real joy to watch how you work. I befriended a very old school watchmaker for over 35 years but not even he worked like you. Where did you learn your skills, I guess a 19c. watchmaker would be envious of you, not to mention a contemporary one in need of a plethora of modern tools. Congrats!

    Thank you for uploading your very nice work! I appreciate the historical information you give on the watch! also the explanation of what we are looking at is very interesting, but maybe more details could be nice in my opinion, these small objects are very mysterious...

    Very interesting story and perfect restoration. Thanks for the video! Does it keep time well? How accurate was it designed to be? If only they new then what is going to happen to consumer culture in 150 years...

    Very nice work. I also clean watch parts in petroleum and I find it quite effective and very relaxing to do it by hand. I only have one question - why do you lubricate screw threads? I noticed you do it in almost every video.

    • @FleaMarketRestorations
      @FleaMarketRestorations  3 года назад +5

      Thank you! Regarding lubricating the screw threads, I know it's not common, but it's just a mechanical engineer in me. It happened to me that the screw breaks on opening, especially if the piece is very old, so I do it as a precaution. One day when someone tries to open it after me, he/she will have the easier job :)

    Restauration of the case: Perfect! Restauration of the work and changing the mainspring: Perfect! Restauration of the dial: Remarkable perfekt! Restauration of the minute hand: not possible to make better. Gluing in the glass: Possible discusable, like my english. Oiling: Could be more exactly. You reach parts of the work with oil, wich schould be free of oil. Filming: Not possible to make better!

    No se por que algunos mexicanos no lo quieren yo soy mexicano y amo roskopf 😊, lo adoro me enamore después de amir de a primera vista de hebdomas me enamore de roskopf es que, yo acabo de restaurar un roskopf que estaba despivotado del eje de la rueda de equilibrio y se lo hice con tanto esfuerzo y amor, y ahorita me camina claro estoy fabricando su tija 😊 roskopf es muy noble y aguanta mucho siempre y cuando se manipule bien por que un error es fatal así que hay que tener cuidado como cualquier reloj siempre con mejores cuidados

    Wonder what the beat rate is? Can it be regulated on a timegraph?

    • @kermitaner

      looked it up because it looked so slow, and it seems to be at 17280, should be no problem for the timegrapher

      @FleaMarketRestorations  2 года назад +1

      Thank you. As for the blueprints, I am not aware that they even exist. What I did was I found a hi-res image of the watch with original hands, and then I drew on paper over my ipad.

    You need music or audio of some kind, either commentary or whatever describing what you're doing. no sound at all except for an occasional click is really boring. also, you should tell what these watches are worth when they're restored or in good original condition and what you paid for this fixable watch .
