For his wife it must be a bit annoying in the long term, like everytime she comes back from the toilet she is welcomed as if she had been missing for 10 years
Spi Rale i'm sure it's annoying but it's really sweet how he can't remember much but still remembers to ask his wife to dance with him and he holds the door for her
***** Honestly, I know what you mean. But even if you love your mom and dad in a really intense way, they annoy you when they keep asking "how to turn on the internet" or when they want to talk with you in times when you'd rather be alone. Of course if you love someone you try to support them as much as you can in hard times. But at some point, you probably feel like it's enough; like you deserve better than that Maybe I'm totally wrong, I don't have a relative with this kind of problem, or any problem close to that -, and I've never been in love with someone- so yeah, my opinion may be wrong
+Mike Wright It's not true love, he was married to her before his illness. So he still remembers things from before his accident... like his kids, music, etc.

"Never seen a human being before" Means he does not know what a human looks like, but when asked he knows that the camera cre are people.. I dont get this
To clear some confusion for commentors: He never lost his memory. He got ill and the fever destroyed his hippocampus. What he lost was the ability to create new memories. Muscle memory is stored seperately in the brain, which is why he can remember to play and walk. He still has his memories from his 20s, before he got sick, and his hippocampus was damaged. That's why he recognizes coffee, words, the concept of chicken and his wife... things he already had learned about, but not his current residence or grown children. And it's very real.
hey genius, the hippocampus is part of the brain, specifically the medial temporal lobe. muscle memory is largely stored in a part of the brain called the cerebellum. different types of memory is stored in different parts of the brain. imagine trying to clear confusion up for people but being wrong about what you're saying.
@@0aux hey, Einstein, did you watch the video? he knows how to talk, eat, he can identify objects and people, he knows his wife, his kids. he can play the piano. he remembers something is wrong with him because he randomly starts talking about doctors. these are all stored as different types of memory. so he has memories, genius. he just has anterograde amnesia. you, mr. genius, are closer to having no memory than this guy. have you checked your brain recently, genius?
+amit kumar yes she is that is true love I bet she fells lonely because he doesn't understands her. every time he sees her he just feels like he has to. that's why he was so happy to see her every time think about the fact that he literally don't remember anything that is so scary.
Seriously though, that woman is a gem. The things she does for her husband every day, reminding him of anything and everything that's important, etc. It must be difficult for both of them... but she loves him and she seems happy to do it. Amazing.
+Lua Education Imagine all the times his wife and children have had to repeat themselves to him. If it was all a ploy, he'd go insane from it. It would not be beneficial in anyway.

After 9 or so years, his mind calmed down almost as if having adjusted to the new reality. InkawgNeetoh Amnesiac or not, I think he's retained much if not all of his intellect. He's a very clever man. And, I agree - I love his voice. It's almost hypnotic.
The thing is he shouldn't even know that he is forgetting! I wondering how he's able to explain his condition? The only thing he has is recent 30 seconds or less of thoughts and the whole outside world he shouldn't be able to think at all even thinking about himself not being able to think
+Dominique Wilbert I think it's because he's constantly aware of having been unaware. It's exactly as he describes it. He's always just woken up. when I've just woken, I'm aware of the blank that comes before. I suspect he also is. He's not really describing the condition, just his world as he is aware of - the hollow part.
He's living life in the moment. No regrets from the past, no worries for the future. Quite annoying for his friends and family, but he is having a blast.
Only 9 years old? Cmon. THIS QUALITY IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! We already had high tech back in 2006. The cameras were good. This quality is just utter shit.
Yeah, what woman would want a man to greet her like a dog does its owner, every single time she appears in front of him. It's like pet dog 2.0 with improved loss of memory for extra licks.
I suppose there is ups and downs to this. Depression like not having seen your wife for many years while she is away, and the joy like seeing her for the first time in many years everytime she come through the door. If life could be described as a rollercoaster, then his life would be like a steap hill waterslide. There are boring steps to get on top, then a funny ride down the slide, rinse and repeat. While the rollercoaster has many exciting turns, ups and downs different angles.
my grandfather constantly thought he had just returned from a trip and was terribly jetlagged. If anyone brought too much attention to his inability to remember, it was confusing and upsetting. Powerlessness can be an extremely scary thing, and many older people struggle to come to terms with it, in a way he was free from that. We learned to just try keep up a charade that felt natural and comfortable for him and focus on *now* - does that taste nice? what do you think about this painting? lets listen to some music. Interestingly he was able to recall long term memories of his childhood and younger years, the sorts of things we hadn't really heard about much before.
+nucky thompson he wouold forget he was looking, actually it would be great you would always forget you had lost whatever it was before you'd know it. Bliss..
His wife is brilliant for staying so positive and retaining her humor. I suppose it's the way that he greets her, with such enthusiasm, that keeps her going and I find that gorgeous.
+Marcin Obuchowski (Czeladnik) That is probably the way it is. Otherwise he'd be surprised everytime he saw the girl with him, whoa, where'd you come from?!
A fate far worse than a physical death. A total death of the ego, its experiences, and its personality. He's been destroyed as a human being at the most base level. Like a bulb, flickering off and on again. With only his procedural memory, he can remember how to play the piano. He's barely more than a simple, albeit confused, machine.
+VeNuS2910 That is very sweet. If any memory stayed with him I am and glad it is of his wife. As hard as it must be for her imagine, how special she must feel that he gets so excited every time he sees her. :)I only mean this in the sweetest way. Every time he sees his wife his reaction is like my Labradors. You know how dogs are, you walk out for a second and then back in and they think you have been gone forever and they are so excited to see you. I love that!
Meowphistopheles think about it though... every time. That's hundreds of times every few days. He doesn't remember their wedding, their children, their life together. She has to fake like she's seeing him for the first time in forever because it would hurt him if she acted like it was no big deal. She can't fully relax with him without going through a reunion every time.
You think he is a poor human being and feel depressed about his illness. Well, if you think about it he lives the perfect life. There is no reason for him to be unhappy, whatever bothers him will not bother him in the next second, everytime he sees his wife he is as happy as someone could be, he isn't stressed, there is nothing to worry about, even if his whole life would fall apart, with his house getting destroyed and everyone he used to know getting killed he would still be happy. I don't want to say that I would ever want to be even close to his state but maybe it isn't that bad after all. It gives you a new perspective on life I guess
Probably not. Swimming is an "automatic" function like speaking, walking, eating, playing the piano etc, and you see he can do all of that. It's only factual information that he can't retain. I'm not sure why, it probably deals with a different part of the brain or something like that. I'm surprised he seems to be able to read, because I've heard people with amnesia forget letters, but maybe it differs from case to case.
He has procedural memory as demonstrated by his ability to play the piano- so he probably can perform any actions that he's learnt before his memory loss.
I have to say one advantage to this is you can keep watching Game of Thrones and never have to wait for a new season, like the rest of us. Lucky bastard.
Olli Jokinen That doesnt mean whoever filmed this had one. This videos only processed in 240p, so the probably had a better camera but just uploaded in low quality
Imagine how wonderful it would be if you were greeted that way every single time you saw your spouse. I guess that's a very small silver lining to all this.
+Ritchie Winters I was thinking the same thing. But how could you possibly live like that. Seems like a big void of concieousness not knowing or remembering anything.
+Ritchie Winters You would not even have to borrow it you could just take it he would not even remember he had it or that you took it, or that you were even there.
i think she should tell him that he can't memorize things so maybe that could leave him schocked,so that's double negative wich means he would be back in normal
First time I got high, I experienced what he has for what lasted I belive 10 mins, I ate an edible and got stuck in my head for what felt like years, I was stuck on a sofa trying my hardest to recognize all these things and every time I turned around I'd see something new even though I already saw it and wonder why? Crazy part is that I was in the comforts of my cousins home so everything I see there I'm familiar with except for that one day with an experience of 10 mins lol
There is a movie where a female university professor is diagnosed with Alzheimers and she and her fiancé have to struggle through her ever worsening state. I found it too painful to finish watching.
i don't think it would, if his memory lasts only seconds. you can't have a meaningful conversations with him. Only good thing is that i doesn't remember to get frustrated, but it must do something to his body for being scared and confused 24/7
So you eat and you finnish your food and you don't remember eating. But you feel full. So you panic. But while you panic few seconds later you forgot why you were pannicking. And so you panic again. Only to wait till you stand up and go to do something else but then you forgot where you were going. How the fuck does that even work? Cannot possibly be right. This man seems very calm.
+E I N S His brain resets every 30 seconds. If he did panic he would have stopped because he would have forgotten why. I am sure he doesn't live alone. He surely can't cook or do anything like that for himself. We just got a very small glimpse.
+E I N S Read once that being full is mostly a psychological thing, your mind knows you've just eaten and might have eaten too much. Apparently dementia patients can continue to eat or something. Seems strange and sounds illogical, I mean your stomach has only this much capacity right surely thats what determines being full, but apparently its true. Same with hunger, its not your stomach/intestines crying for food to digest, its your brain that knows you haven't eaten for a while. Thats why dementia patients don't eat if left to their own, their brain doesn't remember not eating for a while and forgets being hungry or something. Its weird. Don't know how to explain this and I'm weak in neuroscience, but hope this helped.
+NiekGAE I'm not quite sure if that's correct. being hungry is an actual sense that everyone has. if you end up eating too much and it is literally overflowing in your stomach than youre going to feel nauseous as it is literally about to come out of your throat for you to throw up. I don't think it would be a neurological thing at that point
+FABZ XD I know obviously but like if someone kept persuading him to keep writing it everyone he stopped just reminded him that he's writing a book think about how fucking stupid that book would be lmao

+craig aroni he will forget he has to find them...
+Loy Clements lol
+craig aroni You lot are savages! xD
He's living life in the moment. No regrets from the past, no worries for the future.
Quite annoying for his friends and family, but he is having a blast.
He's far from having a blast. He pretty much thinks he's dead.
You're projecting bro
He used to freak out really bad in the beginning
I enjoyed all 12 pixels of this video.
Get over yourself
Wish this shit would end already. Stop being cliche. Be innovative.
Only 9 years old? Cmon. THIS QUALITY IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!! We already had high tech back in 2006. The cameras were good. This quality is just utter shit.
Olli Jokinen it come out before 2006 but RUclips wasn't a thing back then so it got uploaded in 2006
Olli Jokinen RUclips had shit pics
Wow so incredible. Hats off to his wife.
Yeah, what woman would want a man to greet her like a dog does its owner, every single time she appears in front of him. It's like pet dog 2.0 with improved loss of memory for extra licks.
+woami what do you mean she returned?
Who can blame her,its though .the poor man is like living inside a black hole
The upside to this is the excitement he feels when he sees his wife all the time.
It's great that she's stayed with him.
Blanca Munguia imagine trying to come to terms with death over and over again fml
RushNReady He doesn't have to. He can't miss her. He doesn't have a long enough memory to miss anyone I don't think.
***** u should write a book
my grandfather constantly thought he had just returned from a trip and was terribly jetlagged.
Interestingly he was able to recall long term memories of his childhood and younger years, the sorts of things we hadn't really heard about much before.
god it must be awful when this guy loses or misplaces items (
true. he would be no help tho if he misplaced something that his wife needed.
+nucky thompson he wouold forget he was looking, actually it would be great you would always forget you had lost whatever it was before you'd know it. Bliss..
I imagine he must not be able to live alone. He'd forget he'd turned on the stove.
+junbh2 And he'd get distracted in the middle of cleaning or even making a sandwich.
+nucky thompson You mean anytime he picks up something?
His wife is brilliant for staying so positive and retaining her humor. I suppose it's the way that he greets her, with such enthusiasm, that keeps her going and I find that gorgeous.
Isn't it so beautiful how he greets her. Incredibly heart warming. They seem like such lovely people
The only part that confuses me, is how come he doesn't react to the camera, and the random dude filming, every ten seconds?
Legit question, maybe he doesn't remember anything. But at the same time, when he sees anything, he assumes he was just doing this all along?
+Marcin Obuchowski (Czeladnik)
Interesting...
+Marcin Obuchowski (Czeladnik) That is probably the way it is. Otherwise he'd be surprised everytime he saw the girl with him, whoa, where'd you come from?!
I guess its not like he forgets the world.
+AngryKitty Maybe the camera man has to repeat why hey are there and also repeat questions and it is just edited out.
Well on the plus side she only needs to know one joke that makes him laugh and she can keep telling him it over and over.
i guess u could say "he is living in the moment"
LucaAH da bum tss
LucaAH is that...A joke? Because yes, that's literally what he's doing
Your profile pic goes great with that comment
LucaAH badamtssssss

Adras and Horia Gaming I don't get it.
Diet Coke Killer Then your balls haven't dropped. Google is your friend.
Gets drunk, remembers everything.
Sakara oh I'm not drunk mate alright
A fate far worse than a physical death. A total death of the ego, its experiences, and its personality. He's been destroyed as a human being at the most base level. Like a bulb, flickering off and on again. With only his procedural memory, he can remember how to play the piano. He's barely more than a simple, albeit confused, machine.
It really is quite sad. He has lost one of the most fundamental components of what it means to be human.
If you think about it, he'll only remember the last 30 seconds of his life
it is so amazing that he's never forgotten his beautiful wife. :-) they are so sweet together.
+VeNuS2910 u are so sweet
+VeNuS2910 It's because he was married to her before his illness. He remembers things from before it. Like his kids, music, etc.
+Garrett Stewart (GretSeat) he doesn't remember his kids names etc though
+Pyxis Fox She said one of them but I don't remember. Andrew maybe?
+VeNuS2910 That is very sweet. If any memory stayed with him I am and glad it is of his wife. As hard as it must be for her imagine, how special she must feel that he gets so excited every time he sees her. :)I only mean this in the sweetest way. Every time he sees his wife his reaction is like my Labradors. You know how dogs are, you walk out for a second and then back in and they think you have been gone forever and they are so excited to see you. I love that!
If there's any silver lining, it must be nice to get such a warm greeting every time you see your husband.
Agreed, It's definitely not a good situation overall.
even if she did act like its no big deal, he would probably forget that happened cx
plz kill me we are all going to hell
it would hurt him for 30 seconds but yes for his wife that is pretty rough props to her for taking care of him
filmed with a 6 year old piece of bread.
Chris Jantzen it was published in 2006! The youtube was new at those years
Kaan Bozkurt haha i know. it was just a joke.
Chris Jantzen this is before 10 years

Man, this guy could watch his favourite movie over and over and it would be just as good as the first time he saw it.
yeah but it couldnt be to complicated, or every 30 seconds hed say whuuuuuuu?
he could watch his favorite funny youtube video over and over again *
What a nice way to look at it.
I don't get it. That just looks like an average conversation between my grandparents.
The Final Crusader DEUS VULT ...😂😂😂 Great comment!
Not a funny subject but that was a funny comment.
A finding Dory commercial before this video is a bit fucked isn't it?
+ATadOfNoob _Clash Of Clans CRINGY as fuck clash of clans kid
true dat
😂
what did he say?
Just a bit?
Wouldn't the guy just keep asking why there are camera's?
True
Ele Grutters that's not how it works
He is constantly seeing the cameras. He doesn't have anytime to forget it.
He would forget why they are there but he would remember them always being there
he doesn't even know what a camera is.
AsStrange0815 wow! Great comment, really. I never thought about it that way.
Clorox Bleach what? you pop up again? why?. I'm watching you 😑
Yeh but what about his poor wife? She must be very, very sad.
He's living the best life for sure
Clorox Bleach yes
I always wanted my memory to be wiped so I could watch the LOTR series again but this... This is a bit much
I wish the same thing for movies and video games lol
I think you two just discovered an alternative to time machines
3 hours memory lost... then just rewatch lotr for thr rest of your life.... perfect life 😅
All this man needs to do is just keep swimming.
Niklas Universe
p.shermam 42 wallaby way Sydney.🙈😂
Niklas Universe he forget how to swim though o-O
Probably not. Swimming is an "automatic" function like speaking, walking, eating, playing the piano etc, and you see he can do all of that. It's only factual information that he can't retain. I'm not sure why, it probably deals with a different part of the brain or something like that. I'm surprised he seems to be able to read, because I've heard people with amnesia forget letters, but maybe it differs from case to case.
He has procedural memory as demonstrated by his ability to play the piano- so he probably can perform any actions that he's learnt before his memory loss.
Véleno I don't know how to swim so...
He's very well spoken for a guy that can't remember anything.
At least he knows he loves his wife
Just the way he lit up when she walked in the room was amazing
glynn harris Your photo just took away any emotional value I got from your comment.
That1Noob how
Eddy's face made me chuckle instead of feeling guilt or sadness from the comment
glynn harris And he seems to love his kids even though he doesn't remember them.
I have to say one advantage to this is you can keep watching Game of Thrones and never have to wait for a new season, like the rest of us. Lucky bastard.
ReMeDy He doesn have memeories of 30
Second before he would never get any of it
ReMeDy Hahahaha hahahaha ah you are awesome

This is one crispy-ass resolution!
JoeMom well this is from 9 years ago
JMckeown6 Yeah I know. I wasn't complaining, just making an edgy-ass comment on RUclips.
JMckeown6 well 9 years ago they had better cameras
Fucking 4k existed back in 2006 so that can't be your excuse +JMckeown6
Olli Jokinen That doesnt mean whoever filmed this had one. This videos only processed in 240p, so the probably had a better camera but just uploaded in low quality
Imagine how wonderful it would be if you were greeted that way every single time you saw your spouse. I guess that's a very small silver lining to all this.
i want to borrow money from this man
lol very clever
+Ritchie Winters I was thinking the same thing. But how could you possibly live like that. Seems like a big void of concieousness not knowing or remembering anything.
b have you ever heard of a word called LIAR .......because this man is one
+Ritchie Winters You would not even have to borrow it you could just take it he would not even remember he had it or that you took it, or that you were even there.
***** shut it yaseem
Riiiigght. This is clearly a man who forgot to buy his wife an anniversary present, and took a lie waaaaay too far

Funny but stone cold
This is really really sad.. 😞
CursoryYew0 poor guy
P004 GU7
ReneCool Poop gut
ReneCool Poop gut
jutler
i think she should tell him that he can't memorize things so maybe that could leave him schocked,so that's double negative wich means he would be back in normal
Kosta Alić Lol That's definitely not how the brain or neurology works.
Kosta Alić He would not remember that he can't remember though.
+J. F.G its a joke...
*issa
Kosta Alić 😂😂😂😂
I need to borrow some money from this guy
Princess Bloom of Domino His wife handles his finances, I would assume.

Did you really read the top comment and comment that
Broooooo lmaoooooo
I wonder how he will play video games now with forgetting the controls
Tr4PMaze I think that should be the least of his worries
Tr4PMaze Are you ****ing serious? You think he cares about video games?
Playing with keyboard or remote is muscle memory so he will not forget just like he knows how to play the piano
I think he's jus fuckin with us
Jesse L lol same
Jesse L funniest comment I've ever seen lmao I spit out my food
lol the guy has 30s memory and knows every single piano tile note
Lmao this is depressing
+Oussama Bz Well motor memory is different, there's multiple parts of the brain so it's likely the part that stores verbal and visual recognition.
Having this condition is really hard to wrap your head around
Very true
First time I got high, I experienced what he has for what lasted I belive 10 mins, I ate an edible and got stuck in my head for what felt like years, I was stuck on a sofa trying my hardest to recognize all these things and every time I turned around I'd see something new even though I already saw it and wonder why? Crazy part is that I was in the comforts of my cousins home so everything I see there I'm familiar with except for that one day with an experience of 10 mins lol
+Carlos Montes Shut up
Na my nigga
I don't know why but, the way he says "Oh, I see..." Is absolutely hilarious.
nek asadsda O-icy.
niptuck117 oiz
nek asadsda At first, I thought he was saying "Oh, is she?"
That's so sad, but it's his wife and other family members for whom I feel most sorry. They've lost him.
"And the doctors are completely incompetent"
I love this guy :) and how he just lights up every time he sees his wife
Imagine the amount of times he had to ask who the camera man was this whole documentary :D
This seems like a romantic comedy plot
04dram04 50 First Dates, basically this as the plot, it's an alright movie
There is a movie where a female university professor is diagnosed with Alzheimers and she and her fiancé have to struggle through her ever worsening state. I found it too painful to finish watching.
i don't think it would, if his memory lasts only seconds. you can't have a meaningful conversations with him. Only good thing is that i doesn't remember to get frustrated, but it must do something to his body for being scared and confused 24/7
It is lmao ever hear of 50 first dates?
Yes, she forgot what happened during the day after she went to sleep, she didn't forget everything after few seconds
This guy would be a good therapist
I have the same disorder everytime I have a class.
I though I was the only one
CroxyDaddy And meanwhile some kid in a third world country would give his right arm to have the opportunities you had in your life..strange huh
CroxyDaddy we all have the same disorder XD
Mine is 2 secs long
So you eat and you finnish your food and you don't remember eating. But you feel full. So you panic. But while you panic few seconds later you forgot why you were pannicking. And so you panic again. Only to wait till you stand up and go to do something else but then you forgot where you were going. How the fuck does that even work? Cannot possibly be right. This man seems very calm.
+E I N S He's calm, because he forgets whatever that causes panic. Ignorance is bliss.
+E I N S he is calm because he forgets everything lol.
most terrifying illness ever!
Imagine if this dude wrote a book lmfao
It would be 2 sentences he would've forgot that he was writing a book
+FABZ XD I know obviously but like if someone kept persuading him to keep writing it everyone he stopped just reminded him that he's writing a book think about how fucking stupid that book would be lmao
Ralf Nuggs XD ikr
+Ralf Nuggs Once there was a Once there was a Once There was
+Giant Dad HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA exactly it would be so fucking funny and he would never finish
2006 is amazing. Glorious 240p and 15fps for your viewing pleasure
Incendium 367 the pain of watching this on a 55 inch
