EASUN iSolar SMW 8kW inverter - MPPT tracking not working properly

- I had installed the EASUN iSolar SMW 8kW inverter recently and just testing it out.
Besides the grid sync issue I posted in earlier video, this one shows another issue: MPPT tracking not working correctly, potentially causing lot of electricity losses due to not utilising the PV panels when the day is not fully bright.
I hope EASUN resolves the issue over Firmware update.
With an Easun 4.2 Kw I have the same problem, I have solved it practically, with a 20 - 30A relay -> low intensity coil, a resistance of 2 - 10Kohms (depending on the relay consumption) and a 1N4007 protection diode. Every morning when the sun rises and the voltage rises from 150-160 Vdc the relay closes (the relay is connected directly to the solar PV voltage and up to 250 Vdc a resistance of 10-15 Watts is Ok), and allows voltage to arrive. to the inverter of the solar panels, at night when the voltage drops the relay opens and the input of the solar panels remains at 0V.
With this you forget about the issue, because every time the relay closes and the instantaneous voltage reaches the inverter, the MPPT is positioned correctly and no longer fails throughout the day.
I have 2 firmwares from easun. 91.04 and 92.14, i update the 91.04 but the mppt let the voltage up only when have minimum 2A. What firmware do u have from easun?
Where do you download the firmware? Thanks.
Same problem here, tracking gets stuck at 90v until you cycle the breaker then it'll continue tracking. We have a high voltage string here, 470voc so it isn't related to your lower voltage string.
Tnx for sharing. Yes, it was confirmed with Chinese that the algorithm used here is the same one use in low voltage versions - which means it is not optimized for the wider range voltage and can easily "loose" the MP point. :/
@IgyBoyCRO Easun finally emailed me the new firmware updated called 'mppt optimisation update'. Not sure I can post links here.
@@bengrimmett1239 Would be excellent if you have link to it. I believe you can post it without issues. There are more than few people reporting the same issue. I can (possibly)update the description in video to post the link to it.
@@IgyBoyCRO looks like youtube has removed the link, or its possibly pending approval from you
@@bengrimmett1239 Hi Ben, have you had any luck with the new firmware? Try uploading it to gdrive and send the link to that. Maybe the hosting site is blacklisted by RUclips, not allowing the link...
hi, just a question, the 500Volt pv maximum array input is for each mppt channel (500 + 500) or is for the whole inverter? is not clear in user manual because i see an example (in the manual) of 12+12 panels with 37v VOC, almost 450Volts for each imput!
Hi, each input is for its own. So, each can handle 500V.
Hello do you have some experience with the wifi monitoring app for that inverter?
Hi, yes and no. I have installed it and use it here and there to adjust parameters on inverter.
Molto interessante sapere questo, visto che lo appena acquistato.
Spero che abbiano risolto il problema aggiornando il firmware, controllerò.
Grazie
Let us know if your inverter works as it should, or it has the same issue. From couple other purchases that were done by my friends, it seems they still suffer from the same issue - unless something changes in the last month-two.
I also had the same issue with some Easun inverters, also many other persons complaint about this, is easy, this is a software bug and they don't have the expertise to fix it. Don't buy Easun/powland, it's crap. no support and you're stuck with your faulty inverter. Money back? forget it !!!
Hello, I did not understood, how did you resolve the issue later? Just with the breaker on/off?
Yes. Fully disconnect the PV array is what works every time - you just need to remember to do it. If you are not at home...no luck, you will just loose that electricity. :/
Other inverters (even other, cheap solar inverters from China) are on occasions "probing" the array for MPP point in a way that it will drift up and down with voltage significantly, to see if it is still on proper MPP, and this will happen every once in a while. It is just how most of MPP algorithms work. This one seems to not have this functionality implemented or is simply badly implemented.
@@IgyBoyCRO i bought exactly the same inverter yesterday... f... Did you contact the assistance for that problem? is it available a firmware update?
@@rOSScOGITANS Yes, but after I reported it they requested that I upload/send them the data from the logs for at least couple of days when that was happening so they could troubleshoot it. But once I sent it, they stopped responding. :/
@@IgyBoyCRO i have deleted the order for sure, anyway it's a very rare model, no found other users of this inverter, no reports in some forum, nada de nada!
@@rOSScOGITANS It is fairly new model, so it might be that the later versions will come with all those issues fixed already, and I totally understand that this happens (at this price range it can't be perfect), but what annoys the most is not getting ANY support over the matter. So I can't recommend them really.
you should try adding more panells for this inverter close to max Voc-20%
I could try doing it, but that is not a solution. I do not want my array arranged like that due to specific arrangement of panels. Part of panels is in the shade for a part of the morning and afternoon, and if I put them in a single string, I do not get the max power from panels, as those couple of panels in shade bring down the production of the whole array. Also, proper MPP tracking algorithm should work regardless of the amount of connected panels. The proof is the fact that it works perfectly once you force it to "rethink" the MPP strategy by disconnecting the array. Also, I have previously had the 5kW version of their inverter, with same configuration for solar charger (90-450V) and it worked flawlessly for years.
why you didnt ask to sent you firmware update?
It doesn't go like that with Chinese. First they stall you and bomb you with requests to do this and that and video record everything, send logs and data and whatnot only to stop responding. Somewhere in between I have requested that they deliver a new firmware, and I mentioned it a couple of times, but they just ignored it. The reason might be that they don't have a fix for this yet - which would explain why they needed the logs and data from the inverter. Other reasons: they just don't care and stall you untill you give up on pinging them.
alo drugar odakle si ti ?
@@MrSolunac Pozdrav. Hrvatska, Baranja. Ti?
am distributer of EASUN
how u solve the problem? works after update?
Unfortunately, no. I just gave up on having this inverter connected to grid. I just use it in full off-grid mode. It still has same MPP problem, can't be properly turned off, but Easun was unable to provide solution to any of my problems so far.
@IgyBoyCRO What version firmware you have? I have a plan to buy this inverter but in case of MPPT issue it's preferred not to buy this one.
Have u solved the issue ?
Haven't got time to play with it. There is obviously some firmware being released by Voltronic that fixed "some" of the flaws on the inverter but I don't know which ones. Winter is coming so I might give it a try in a month-two.
