EASUN iSolar SMW 8kW inverter - MPPT tracking not working properly
Просмотров 3,4 тыс.3 года назад
I had installed the EASUN iSolar SMW 8kW inverter recently and just testing it out. Besides the grid sync issue I posted in earlier video, this one shows another issue: MPPT tracking not working correctly, potentially causing lot of electricity losses due to not utilising the PV panels when the day is not fully bright. I hope EASUN resolves the issue over Firmware update.
EASUN iSolar SMV 8kW - frequency/grid issues

My brand new EASUN iSolar SMV 8kW inverter misbehaves while grid power is out. If the wiring is there, but grid is not actually connected, it drops the frequency to 40Hz on output and still detects the input - even though the grid is off. It starts "clicking" some relay, and chops the output power every couple of seconds. Like if some internal relay is not disconnected and it tries to sync with...

    With an Easun 4.2 Kw I have the same problem, I have solved it practically, with a 20 - 30A relay -> low intensity coil, a resistance of 2 - 10Kohms (depending on the relay consumption) and a 1N4007 protection diode. Every morning when the sun rises and the voltage rises from 150-160 Vdc the relay closes (the relay is connected directly to the solar PV voltage and up to 250 Vdc a resistance of 10-15 Watts is Ok), and allows voltage to arrive. to the inverter of the solar panels, at night when the voltage drops the relay opens and the input of the solar panels remains at 0V. With this you forget about the issue, because every time the relay closes and the instantaneous voltage reaches the inverter, the MPPT is positioned correctly and no longer fails throughout the day.

    Hi I have a question the install to the inverter is it in series from grid to house. meaning the grid wiring from meter come straight into the inverter and the output of the inverter goes to the house power. And I think your video issue when you kill the live only your still partially connected to the grid by the neutral Correct me if I'm wrong

    • @IgyBoyCRO
      @IgyBoyCRO 2 года назад

      Negative wire being connected to the grid should not be an issue. If it doesn't have the live wire, it can't sync with the grid. The issue here is that, obviously the inverter can't work if the input neutral and output neutral are on the same line - which works perfectly with other inverters and is definitely a flaw either by design, or somewhere in the firmware.

      Unfortunately, no. EAsun has not been able to resolve the issue, and they are now not responding for more than a month. They asked for all sorts of videos and data, but none helped. I guess the board is faulty, or the firmware is doing something wrong. Anyhow, I am managing to use it to power the house - without grid connection(the other inverter I showed is doing the battery charging from grid). MPP tracking sucks, as the algorithm is badly implemented, and needs an firmware update, but I am not sure if I will get it from EAsun. The power off and power on is not bothering me at this point, but is just adding to frustrations over the inverter. Best part is: I have sold dozens of EAsun inverters(5.5kW versions) and their customer still ignores me. Now imagine if you only buy one single inverter. Yes. Fully disconnect the PV array is what works every time - you just need to remember to do it. If you are not at home...no luck, you will just loose that electricity. :/ Other inverters (even other, cheap solar inverters from China) are on occasions "probing" the array for MPP point in a way that it will drift up and down with voltage significantly, to see if it is still on proper MPP, and this will happen every once in a while. It is just how most of MPP algorithms work. This one seems to not have this functionality implemented or is simply badly implemented.

    • @IgyBoyCRO
      @IgyBoyCRO 3 года назад

      I could try doing it, but that is not a solution. I do not want my array arranged like that due to specific arrangement of panels. Part of panels is in the shade for a part of the morning and afternoon, and if I put them in a single string, I do not get the max power from panels, as those couple of panels in shade bring down the production of the whole array. Also, proper MPP tracking algorithm should work regardless of the amount of connected panels. The proof is the fact that it works perfectly once you force it to "rethink" the MPP strategy by disconnecting the array. Also, I have previously had the 5kW version of their inverter, with same configuration for solar charger (90-450V) and it worked flawlessly for years.

    Hello , i plan to buy one of these , how did you manage the issue? Thx

    • @IgyBoyCRO
      @IgyBoyCRO 3 года назад

      Well, turns out the inverter is total cr*ap. MPPT is also not working properly, sometimes it hangs for hours at 90V, while it should be near 200V (which is the nominal voltage for my array). I have a separate video showing this. While my other inverter produces 1kw of power this one just sits at 90V and wastes energy. Reported the problem and EASun asked to provide the data. After I already sent a video and offered to send the logs, I received no response on that topic. On semi-cloudy days this means a waste of couple hundred watt-hours if not kWh.On the grid-sync issue, EAsun has proven to not be worth the hustle. They provided no solution for the problem, and still require all sort of videos to demonstrate the fault. What is even worse, the inverter - even when powered down, provides power to the loads. I'll put the links to that video later. It is not publicly listed, and I have not edited videos for public showing, but now Im thinking of doing some lengthy video, counting and showing all the issues. So, if you were to ask me is it worth to invest into EAsun inverter at this point, the answer is NO! Invest some money and buy from MPP solar or other non-chinese inverter.

    I found your video while searching for information about this inverter. This is an interesting problem but as the wiring look a bit messy to me (sorry) I can't really get a hold on how this is connected. At around 3:28 in your video you try to explain how the neutral is connected and that confuses me. So let me get this straight, you connected the OUTPUT neutral line to the INPUT neutral line via the busbar which, for the sake of this experiment you put a switch in between? Shouldn't the input (both neutral and fase) be strictly separated from the output circuitry?

    • @IgyBoyCRO
      @IgyBoyCRO 3 года назад

      Hi, yes, I do have to agree on the wiring. :) Althought, it is because the old inverter (also EASUN 5kW version )has just been removed and the new one was connected when the issue was discovered. Yes, the input AC neutral wire is directly coupled with AC out neutral wire. Most inverters work properly in this configuration - as it should be. The issue is not simple, however, and depends on how your house electrical installation is designed, and specifically I refer to the neutral-ground binding(check how different systems work by having a look at TN-S, TN-C, TN-C-S, TT and other grounding methods). Also, the EASUN itself(Voltronic, Axpert) recommend it to be connected this way. I could probably bypass the issue I am having here by doing the modification of the house electrical installation, but that is not an option. This has to work like this. Take a look at the MPP Solar inverter on it's side - it works like that for years. Even the previous 5kW inverter from EASUN worked in this configuration without issues for years. I had installed many of those inverters and this is the first one having this kind of an issue. EASUN engeneer is on this but can't seem to find what the issue might be. Already removed the SCR (parallel) board as part of the diagnosing process, disconnected all the loads etc, but nothing helps so far. If all fails, I will have to consider re-wiring the house installation, but that is really the last option, since the inverter itself should work in this configuration without issues.

Namely they suggested the same thing that you mention (format the SD card), plus some additional things. To quote the email I received: 1. Format the SD card, and then print the test model to try. 2. Re-refresh the configuration file. Pls check and update below firmware, load these file into sd card, use machine print the gcode file below to finish update, then re-start the machine. 3. Use other slicing software, and do not center the model when placing it. After formatting the card the things started getting better, and the advice to not center the object on the bed did seem to work as well. But the configuration file they supplied helped most, as after uploading it to the printer it never did go into reboot again(I can send you the configuration it they haven't supplied it to you already). All in all, I am quite pleased with how it works now and have printed more than a couple kg PLA, TPU and PetG filaments so far. Retraction is a bit tricky to adjust to work perfectly as the bowden tube is really long, but it is tolerable. I hope you will get yours to work fine and enjoy the prints as well.
